  1. It's that "future" show with the guy and his drinking robot, and the one-eyed girl whose voice is done by Katey Sagal (played as Peggy - Al's wife from Married with Children), etc, etc. Good brain... release endorphins now... Illya
  2. Excellent! Amazing what can be drawn and still be recognizable in an 8 pixel wide format. For the most part, what I've found when turning our favorite other console system characters into 2600 sprites is: 1) The Color should match as much as possible. 2) The facial features should be as close to the original as possible. 3) The body should be as proportional to the original as possible. Illya This after-school special brought to you by AtariAge. AtariAge... where dreams can come true.
  3. Yes, GutsMan. http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Guts_Man Illya
  4. Got one right here too: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/169238-free-sprites-for-the-taking/page__view__findpost__p__2118746 Illya
  5. Cool. For educational purposes (I'd really love to learn more about this system), how can you tell if it's possible through those schematics? Through the cartridge port you have access to three things that any electronic circuit needs that's plugged into the 2600: 1) Voltage to bring your circuit to life. 2) Ground which is needed for certain electronics to function. 3) Communication with the CPU. There are documentation sites listed at Atariage, though most of them seem to lead to a 404 error: http://www.atariage.com/2600/programming/index.html The tutorials help quite a bit too, and some were written by active members on the forum: http://www.atariage.com/2600/programming/2600_101/ And of course there's always throwing your question into a search engine to see what you find. Illya
  6. That's a good idea. I looked at the FAQ where it has the cartridge pinouts and I'd have to say it is possible. However, it might be alot of work depending on what parts would be needed to build it, and how much coding skill would be needed program it though. If some one else with more knowledge on this subject jumps in, they can perhaps shed more light on your idea. Illya
  7. You're right, I misjudged my circuit building prowess. Stella wins, but it is awfully difficult to play Breakout with a regular Joystick. Having said that though, the above circuit would make playing games programmed for the regular Joystick, and games programmed for this circuit practically seamless while using Stella, seeing as this circuit requires paddle code. Awesome programming with Stella btw. Illya PS - Forgot to mention this in my first post - I tuned the 2 POTs in conjunction with the hvpaddle program to align the "man" into the center of the screen. That's why they have such funky values. Through future testing/tweaking, those values may have to change. EDIT: UPDATE! Seems as though the hvpaddle program has the Left and Right movements reversed! After more testing in Stella and on real hardware this seems to be true. A better program is definitely needed for this. Here's an updated Circuit: Yes I simply flipped the circuit around in my editing program. Well it was easier than redrawing the whole thing.
  8. I'm messing around with 2600 controllers these days, on top of making sprites/title screens, and I've made a circuit that allows the 2 paddle lines from the 2600 to act like a Joystick. This Idea has come up before a few times in the past. After testing, I can say that this works on REAL hardware and works with the 2600-daptor which oddly enough sees it as the Paddles when Stella is set for Paddles and as a Joystick when Stella is set for Joystick... that's probably my fault. Anyway, the completely unintended result leads to the controller design also allowing 2 Fire buttons(The Left and Right directions that are used by the Paddles as fire buttons). Here Check it out: In the thread Session 23: Moving Sprites Vertically by Andrew Davie, there's a post by Galaga_Freaks who has written a simple program to test all of the directional movements of this controller. Here's the code & bin: hvpaddle.zip Unfortunately, he did not include the Fire buttons in his code. If anyone could add-in the Fire buttons then the program would be complete. Or if some one could write one in Batari Basic that would be great too. If you want to test this on the 2600, then grab your copy of Warlords and pop that sucker in. The two players will be able to move left and right(no diagonals of course) along their designated paths, and the Buttons will be able to grab the ball for either player. Enjoy... and be careful to always double check your wiring, lest you wreck your Atari... then I get to say, "I told you so." Illya
  9. WOOHOO! One less boss for me to do. Illya
  10. While I was pouring over pages about Paddles and Joysticks trying to find data for my Paddle as Joystick controller (I'll be posting this somewhere in the Forums soon... yes for reals), I found a few discussions about hooking up Four Joysticks to have Four player games on the 2600. So here we go: Four-Player Joystick games? by almightytodd http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/105756-four-player-joystick-games/page__p__1282133#entry1282133 almightytodd was very happy to add a Nintendo Wii to his life and is probably right now enjoying all those Four Player games with his friends. His only downfall is that He can't seem to properly put Image files in his posts... sad really... Paired Joysticks by trucker_monkey http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/152986-paired-joysticks/page__view__findpost__p__1872362 When this Civil/Hydrological/Geological Engineer was a kid he had childhood aspirations of 4-Player Combat. However, these days he's forgetting that we need to move diagonal and that he has to try the codebreaker key-combination's near the statue of Mary inside the church. Lets all hope that 2012 is his year. Ive got it! by Cupcakus http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/14493-ive-got-it/ There must be a condition where one can't move diagonally, because Cupcakus, like trucker_monkey, is also afflicted with it. I guess he's right... He's got it! Although Cupcakes condition only cost him $3 dollars, it looks like trucker_monkeys' was free. Post #16 by Eckhard Stolberg This has an interesting link in it which still works amazingly enough, but if you can't read Czech I guess you're out of luck. Kidding! Here's a translated link: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=cs&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fraster.infos.cz%2Fatari%2Fhw%2Fmultijoy.htm In conclusion I can honestly say I didn't learn anything from all this... oh wait! I take that back. I did learn one thing: Don't talk with your mouthful... wait for it to be empty BEFORE you put your foot in it. Illya
  11. @Brian - Even if the Delorian didn't have any Flux Capacitors in it, it'd still be cool to have one. @John - Thank you I'm thinking that GutsMan might be next, and that he'll pose a bit more of a challenge due to his size, but I'll do my best. Take care guys, Illya
  12. But that means that this game project is shelved and you're back to working on Charge! I'll mention this anyway, When one characters turn is over, I often end up moving the next character a few steps before I realize it. It'd be great if there was a delay between switching characters, maybe have the character that's being switched to blink a few times, or highlight in some way, before switching to it. Illya
  13. If you guessed IceMan, then you deserve a cookie. mmmm....cookies *drool* IceMan Frames.zip Illya
  14. No wait, it's perfect! Everyone likes Rogue, so we'll release this new graphic intense version of it and call it New Rogue. And after awhile when people start seeing that's not the same, we will re-release the original Rogue and call it Rogue Classic. :D Illya
  15. Agreed, and I believe they would look something like this: I used the Rogue Manual to help put these together. Illya
  16. Kinda looks like an angry Mario with a small Bob-omb. BombMan Frames.zip I swear... it takes me longer to do the Comparison pictures than it does to make the actual sprites. Oh well, There's a few more bosses to go... I wonder who's next. Illya
  17. You mean like 2600 Carts? The top 3 are just color variations of the same sprite(sorry, sometimes I state the obvious ): 2600 Cartridges.zip And yes, we can hear you from the Atari Roguelikes thread. Illya
  18. Just a mock up comparison I did with the original at the Top and the 2600 at the bottom. The overall height of the dungeon playfields are the same, but I've stretched and trimmed the Atari one to cover two screens - indicated by the 2 different colors.(don't worry, your monitor isn't fading on one side ) Now this is the Rogue I remember. Works great in DOSBox too, where I "play test" all of my old school games. Original: Made for the Titlescreen Kernel: The Amulet of Yendor(Rodney spelled backwards) awaits! Illya
  19. Costumers? Halloween's a bit early this year. What is going on with all these typos today... it's awesome.
  20. Right on. Use anything in this thread you wish, as it is as the name states, they are all free. And if you feel like sharing your creations, then you are more than welcome to post them here. Illya
  21. I like to see it as, "what should have been". It might take a much larger ROM and extra support ICs but, one day we may look back and say, Why didn't we try this sooner? It's from the idea that we can grow and accomplish great things. BombMan is nearly complete and will be added soon. Illya
  22. CutMan Frames.zip And remember kids if anyone tells you that you can't do something *WARNING Expletive ahead* - In the immortal words of Rambo Yes, explosions are optional, and I blame YouTube for not only it's inability to censor violence and nudity, but it's ability to allow people to share ideas and information for, albeit, even a short period of time. So while it lasts, keep your seat belt on, and enjoy the ride. Illya
  23. Thank you, and right back atcha Brian ElecMan has lost a little pixel weight from his original incarnation to the 2600 and is now much closer to MegaMans height and width. Looks like CutMan is next to be "cut" from the list ... *runs* *dodges tomatoes* Illya
  24. Thank you. I knew that those high school electronics classes would be useful one day. With the this controller mod, I wanted something dead simple so that even someone with rudimentary electronics skills could understand it. No ICs, capacitors, resistors, or extra components of any kind. Also, after doing research in the forums, I found that there were people that didn't mind Up on the controller being Jump, and those that outright hated this idea in both official and home-brew releases... this design satisfies both. Illya
  25. The Challenge continues with the completion of ElecMan. Lets hope he's not invincible in the next demo. ElecMan Frames.zip Illya
