  1. Here's a small update for the free sprites, because I've been busy working on a web page for them. :) I will continue to make free sprites, as well I will make SOME for download either on donation or for a very small price like 25 cents or something just to help pay for any costs associated with having a web page, and as "incentive" to keep making sprites. :P

  2. On second though, for large Mario I might use those sprites after all. Thank you.

You're Welcome. The small Mario sprites are ready if you need them. They're available at the same link I posted the other day. While I was making them, they reminded me of when I was a kid and I got the Mario Bros. cart back when it came out... Good times. :)

  3. TrekMD, thank you. It's not turning out as well as I had hoped, but it should get better as I work on it.

PAC-MAN-RED, thank you, but I think I'll stick to what I have for now. Except maybe the sprite used when you're pressing down on the joystick.

theloon, I'll check the program again, but I didn't have that problem. I'll walk Mario from the beginning to the end and see what happens.

No problem. :) I'm gonna do some more SMB related sprites and fill up that link with them.

  4. Hey PMR, its a shame that a lot of your hard work is getting buried in the forum pages.

Ever think about putting it on a web page, or letting RT host it on a 1-bit graphics page?

Either way it would really be cool if you highlighted some tips for 2600 graphics creation at the top, like the way you use shadow on the body to introduce color elements, etc.

Anyway, just a thought I had.

I have thought about creating a web page for the sprites too. Give away my secrets!?!? Oh..alright. :P I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the great ideas. :)

  5. Slight break from all of the Halloween stuff for a freshly completed conversion of SMB - Large Mario sprites. This inspiration comes from jbs30000s' continuing challenges with his Super Mario game for the 2600. :) His latest efforts can be found here.

Firstly, there are 2 versions of the still frame, followed by the 3 animated walking frames, jump, crouch, and the skid/turn around.

I am working on converting one of my Flash games to the 2600 and been working on a ghost sprite. Yours are so much better then mine. Keep up the great work and thank you.

Hey I'm glad I could help out and contribute something for everyone. :) Thank you very much. There will be more examples of ghosts and other ghoulish sprites before Halloween. :skull: :-o

  7. oooOOOOWWW!! Hey kids I've got some scarey sprites for you today! heh heh heh oooOOOOWWW!! First off we start with the most frightening, bone chilling sprite of them all... a Door! oooOOOOWWW!! *Lightening crashes* heh heh heh You were scared weren't you kids?! :)

That was for all of those Count Floyd fans out there. :D

Anyway, rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated... besides I became a zombie instead. Sure you can stay awake forever and get more sprites done, but being cold and hungry all the time is a bit of a draw back. I manage to fuel my hunger habit by asking people for CHHAAAANNNGE.. :skull: :)

Sprites range from 8x8 to 8x16.

  8. First off I'd like to say that Visual bB is a life saver... well, time saver anyway. :) For ease of making sprites it's been the best and only tool I use. However, I'm wanting to draw ever larger sprites in the double and maybe quadruple widths.

My question is, While drawing a sprite, is there anyway to preview the extra wide versions of the sprite within the program itself? If not, I think this would be a great new feature to add to an already awesome program. :) Thank you.

  9. That's pretty good. I'm not sure why, but the way he moves looks familiar... almost Lode Runner-esque. :P I'll do up the Sprite files for ya a little later. :)

The conversion would be much appreciated!

I agree that he seems kinda familiar, but I think it's just that non-bobbing floaty run cycles were pretty common back in the day.

Given that this is "help yourself" art, it's probably a good thing that he looks generic; nobody will likely notice if he turns up in a few games.

lol.. yes you have a point there. :) Sprite files have been created.

  10. An 8x8 run cycle. This time there's no head bob - it was a sacrificed for more detail on the body and a more proportioned head.

To me it looks more like a generic video game runner. Also, the standing frame could easily be converted into a up/down walk cycle by just shortening alternating arms and legs to give them motion.
