I'm inspired by the great work of others, including all the great works you've done my friend. I would hope so. Credit is all I ask for if my work is used directly, but, then again, a couple bucks or a copy of the finished cart would be nothing to sneeze at. Thank you, I do spend quite a few hours on some of them until I'm happy. Perfectionism has it's downside. It's kinda how things tend to roll with my work. I'll see a programmer working on a game, and liking what I see, I will jump in and help as much as I possibly can.

Pretty much. Just like most early games did to indicate easy or difficult enemies with the use of different colors, it also provides recycling of sprites if the programmer didn't have much space in the ROM to work with. In my case I like to give examples of what the use of color does to and for a sprite.

You're absolutely right. The end sprite width when in the 160W screen res will always be a concern. Which is why after the first few posts, I decided to take the width from 16 pixels down to 13. A good range I find, is to keep the width between 11 & 13 for optimal happiness.

What 2600 titles could/should have Trak-Ball support added?

"Why can't the Atari 2600 display better graphics?" I'm loathe to answer a question with another question, but - Display better graphics than what? I can see in the first post that it was actually one games graphics being compared to another. So it is in fact not the 2600 being compared to another game console that has better specs, but has to do with the age old formula of: Time + Money + Talent = Result. Money is ancillary, time is neccessary, and talent is Mandatory to have a game(and its graphics) be deemed good. A far FAR better thread to have would be: How can we get the Atari 2600 to display better graphics? Dedicate this thread to improving programming skills, technological understanding/expansion, and artistical capabilities of and for the 2600 in regards to graphics. Off shoots of such a thread could be: ...better sound/music, and ...better controls/controllers or some such things. That's my two pennies worth. illya

Thanks! It's inspired by the Peahat, but unlike the Peahat it's a sea anemone(Metridium) and not a flower/plant.

Well when Princess Rescue was being heavily touted as SMB, it should come as no surprise why Nintendo gave it the axe. For example: This Guy Made an Atari Version of Super Mario Bros. — And It’s Pretty Fun http://www.wired.com/2013/07/princess-rescue/ Imitate yes, appropriate no! Without imitation we would have only one of everything - one action movie, one shmup, one type of government, etc. Metridium

I was trying to get this done for Halloween, but...
PAC-MAN-RED replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 7800
Usually when I put the graphics together I leave out the actual palette for each object so Bob just does whatever. The colours will always need tweaking as things are added or removed. To answer your question more directly though, the street in my original layout in actually a lighter shade of gray to have the "dots" blend in, and have the player, zombies, and foreground objects(guns, ammo, health, etc) stand out more. illya -

Greetings to one and all! A few days ago Zuujin was scouring the pages of Google and deviant art searching for a pixelated dragon or dragon head for his project. Disappointed by what he found, he pressed on and soon discovered this thread full of free sprites. He joined the AA forums and fired off his first message in my direction. Intrigued by his request at making a 20x16 sprite to be displayed on an LCD screen, I accepted the challenge. WARNING! Beyond here... there be dragons: Project pictures: Zuujin has a thread in a German forum documenting his excellent quadcopter project. Check it out here. illya P.S. - As a very kind and thoughtful gesture, Zuujin has included my name and website in his source code. When his project is complete he will share the source code with his community in the aforementioned forum.
