Correct, it goes to the ground of the RCA jack and then needs to be connected into the ground on the Atari motherboard. Excellent. It was a little confusing in the picture. Just a question. Why would you need resistance on a ground? one last thing. I have a bunch of 1K potentiometers. Could I use these and just tweak them till I get a decent picture?

That is part of the problem with Ben's original mod. It works well for portables and crts but newer LCDs will either give you no picture or something less than desirable. Going through a VCR's inputs might work better if you want to test it out. I think he has an updated video mod that includes a simple transistor amplifier to boost the signal. http://benheck.com/book/support/Atari2600VidMod.htm I haven't tried the updated one as I take a different approach with my mods because I found Ben's original mod gave me a crappy picture on my LCD. I do use a transistor amplifier and it gives a good picture so that probably should help. Thanks for that one. Just a question on the ground connection on the right of the diagram. I am a little confused about why you would need ground joined to the positive output. Or is this actually what you use for the grounding of the RCA and is not to be connected with the positive output?

Hi Guys, Well I just purchased a new 42" LCD TV yesterday and was very excited. I was really looking forward to connecting my recently A/V modded 2600 to it to play Kaboom! on a huge screen. Well I got it all hooked up I could not get a signal working through my Harmony cart. I tried using one of my original Missile Command cart but could only get a picture once I change from another video source and then back again. When I do the same for the Harmony it shows the menu screen briefly then it flicks to no signal. I suspected that it would have something to do with the signal strength not being good enough. I used Benhecks basic composite A/V from his forum. On my CRT this works sweet as and is very bright and clear. My question is there a possibility of making a video amplifier and if so would this actually make a difference? I have heard to try and connect the Atari up VIA a Video recorder's AV inputs and see if this works better but I would prefer to use the standard inputs on my new LCD. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone.

Thanks for that Igallair. That is exactly what I was looking for. i didn't think it would be too hard to do. Will look into what resister is required.

Hi Guys, I am wanting to put a power LED on my Atari 2600 6 switch. i am sure it would be a matter of sourcing positive and negative power from the board and using some sort of resistor. My question is has anyone done this and if so where did you get the power from and what resistor should I be using? Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Hi Batari, Just got my cart in the mail today. Can't believe how fast it came. Shipping from the US is nearly as fast as getting it from interstate in OZ. Just wanted to say that I am in Heaven at the moment. Have uploaded all my roms and have been smashing them. Thanks so much for the speedy service. Just a question about running NTSC on a PAL console. Most TV's here in OZ support NTSC and PAL but the colours seem a bit odd when playing NTSC games. I am suspecting that this is normal behaviour. In any case I have seperated the PAL roms to a single folder so that I can easily find them. Great product!! Thanks again

Thanks to Zylon I now have a working second controller port. Thanks for that!! Now I can play combat with a friend.

Try this http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/128279-cd4050-av-mod-on-pal-atari-2600/ About halfway down there is the pinouts for the PAL TIA chip. I used this for my AV mod on a 6 switch and worked sweet. Join pins 5,6,7 and 9 on a PAL TIA to get a composite image.

Modding a 6-switch 2600 for composite w/o adding or removing anything?
mamejay replied to TerryMasters's topic in Atari 2600
Hi There, I have just done my PAL 6 switch recently using benhecks guide. http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?t=1151 It was really easy. I first just soldered the wires to the board without the resister or potentiometers which gave me a decent picture. I later made up a small board with the resisters and potentiometers on it and now the picture is a lot better. I drilled the Atari case and added RCA female connectors but you could just run cables out the back with RCA male connectors on them so as to not mod the case. One of the easiest mods I found to do this without removing any original components on the board. -
Very true, That is why i am asking what other people have done to fix broken pins or where to get the same part from. I did buy one for $2 from an electronics store locally but the back of it is about 1/4" too short to line up with the original holes in the motherboard.

Thanks for that. I have had a look at both those sites. Best Electronics is such a busy site. Really hard to find anything on it. E Store doesn't look like they have the 9 pins connectors but I will drop them an email. Thanks for the response.

Hi there, I recently gotten Atari 6 switch and AV modded it. All working perfectly apart from a pin is broken on the DB9 joystick port. I brought a generic DB9 connector from an electronics shop in Australia where I live but the rear of it does not line with the holes on the PCB. I have been searching around but I cannot find where you would get a replacement connector that would fit perfectly into the Atari. What online stores or resources do people use for parts like this? Any suggestions on where to get one? Thanks guys.

That's what I was thinking. I decided to buy a Harmony now so I really don't care about the cart anymore. Just can't wait for the cart to get to me!!

Hi there Batari, I saw this cart recently and want to grab one. I live in Australia and was wondering what postage to Oz would be? When i am on the site to order you need to complete the order before you get to the shipping page. Just wanted to ensure it wasn't something ridiculous before I placed my order. Also would these carts work on a PAL Atari 6 switch? Our TV's down here support NTSC and PAL so I am suspecting that they will. Thanks Harmony works on an Atari-branded PAL 6-switch. If you have a clone console, particularly one with built-in games, Harmony might not work without modifications. Shipping to Oz (or anywhere in the world outside the USA, Canada, or Mexico) is USD 13.50. It is shipped in a USPS flat rate priority box. Since I pay USD 13.49 to ship these, I am only charging one cent above the actual shipping cost COOL!! I am ordering mine right now!! Is there stock available?

Hi Everyone, First post here so be kind. I had an Atari which I brought a few years ago on ebay with a bunch of carts. I couldn't get a picture VIA RF and thought that the console was dead. I recently had a new found obsession with old consoles and decided to whip it out and have another go. I got a composite video mod installed and everything is working perfectly! now I want to play all the games I got with it. Out of the carts that I got one of them has the plastic pins on either side broken. I cannot insert this cart as it cannot lift the security cover off the cart slot. Is there anyway around this? What have others on the forum done with broken cart cases and anyways of fixing them? Thanks guys and long live Atari!
