I'm happy to report that taking it apart, cleaning the lens and generally dusting the JagCD has solved my stuttering issues. Thanks for all your help JagChris and NinSEGA

Thanks, I saw a YouTube video which referenced that guide which suggested a proper clean of the unit and the various contacts before resorting to replacing the laser transport. I'll give that a bash first.

The game (Myst) was brand new. The Jag CD however was used. It's in good condition cosmetically, but the drive door "switch" is very stiff.

Hello I recently purchased a Jag CD - I guess I'm a glutton for punishment! I don't have many games, just Myst and Blue Lightning (which I've never played). I've noticed that the video/sound/speech in the intro from Myst seems to stutter and I'm wondering if this is a common issue with the game, or if it indicates that there's an issue with the Jag CD itself. If so... is replacing the drive laser transport the way to go? Thanks

Just got back from my first ever Jagfest and it was great! Nice to put faces to names and to meet everyone! Picked up a few games too, so time to dust off the ol' Jag.

I'm so excited and yet now I worry I might not be able to make it... My missus has got me viewing a place at 1pm, so the earliest I'll be able to get this is about 4pm... What happens at 6pm when you "close"?

Reading through this thread seriously makes me wish i had kept my jag & jag CD, as i sold it a couple of years ago for £180... I think its great if you have one and want to sell it off at a higher price, but i must admit when i did own it, it seemed like a bit of novelty, considering i only played Battlemorph on it... The collector in me _really_ wants to own one, especially new! I have this crazy dream of owning every console (NES onwards*) and the top 5 or 10 games for each, all hooked up to individual screens, etc. Like my own personal gaming Museum. Realistically I know that'll never happen as I'll never own a room big enough or want that many tv's and most of all a lot of the more obscure systems I don't yet own don't even have 5 or 10 games worth owning - and this is where the JagCD fits in. Add to that the unreliability others have mentioned here, the other (arguably better) systems I could get instead (for less) and the fact that I probably have more important things to spend/waste my money on, I'm going to pass. *NES was the beginning of gaming for me and everything prior to that is just old (to me) and lacks any of the nostalgia needed to enjoy a lot of older games. PS. Nothing here was meant to offend anyone, I'm sure the JagCD IS a great system and I'd treasure one if I owned it, but it's just prohibitively expensive for what it is.

Funny you should mention Iron Soldier as I bought that last night on ebay (check my sig). Super Burnout is a maybe, once I've run out of options, but Doom is a no. I've play that too death on the pc back in the day. Rayman and Zool 2 also interest me a bit. Rayman is way too expensive (and available elsewhere) and Zool 2 I might get if I see it for a decent price. The reason I didn't include it initially is I've never met an amiga platformer I liked...
