    Well, Rudy and I started this little good-natured tete-a-tete several months ago, but I never did see a 3-million-plus score posted from him. Anyway, yesterday I got tired of waiting for the Champster to break my record...

    But you did remind me of Midnight Madness earlier. When I was in junior high, HBO played that movie ALL THE TIME. My little group-o-nerds thought it'd be awesome to run an all night party/scavenger hunt-like event like that...

    The thing is there are enough opinions about the mods being over-zealous that regardless of the wording there obviously must be *some* truth to it.
    Uh-huh. Don't you find it the least bit suspect that the two that started this round of flames - Fighter 17 and Rev. Rob - are two recently banned DP members who might, just might, have axes to grind rather than "legit" complaints?

     

    And just because a member has been banned from there that doesn't make thier claims automaticially false.
    Perhaps not, nor does it automatically make it gospel truth either. One point I'd like to mention - Ever notice that DP bannees often come immediately to AA, often raising the "DP is The Sux" flag? I honestly feel because they know they can get a sympathetic ear here due to the underlying currents of seething rage and hatred that drip from posts like yours and the ones above. Why do you and others cultivate this mentality here? It's unfathomable to me.

     

    People ask why I hang out at DP more than AA. Honestly, even with all of its faults, it's because I rarely see an anti-AA thread or post. Could it be that AA is just that better that there are no complaints? Perhaps. Or could it be that the DP membership has a bit more couth and respect for fellow collectors than to drag the Opposing Board through the mud yet again as has been done over and over again here.

     

    C'mon, let's end this for Christ's sake. It's this kind of crap that will make any kind of future AA/DP commaraderie impossible. Those who remember past cons and meetings will testify that those were good times. But they will never happen again until attitudes and mentalities change.

     

    And I thought the OSU/Michigan rivalries were stupid.

    Thomas, I couldn't agree more. Perhaps some kind, non-Nazi, AA Mod could put a clank on this - and several other "DP iz teh suck" threads, leaving one legit "DP Down?" thread open for those times when...you know. That should end this most recent round of poo-throwing.

     

    Unless someone else feels the need to chime in with more ichor.

    And it's crap posts like the ones we've all just read that perpetuates this supposed AA/DP rift, when in actuality it's the vocal opinions of a few previously banned malcontents or folks who just enjoy stirring up shit.

     

    Seriously guys, many DP members and Mods are members of AA too. Just as many AA members also frequent DP's shores. So it's not like you're ranting in a vacuum. We see it. We discuss it. And we're gonna show up at AA and reply.

     

    And the cycle of poo-flinging begins anew.

     

    Also, making inflammatory posts about the DP forum downtime, mod Nazi-ism, or general "Yeah, I kinda hate their guts too" does nothing but make you look like asses and makes AA feel like a place where the overlying attitude is "If it ain't AA, it's crap."

     

    In closing, as my grandfather used to say, "If you can't something nice, why say anything at all?" Or, as I say, "How many anti-DP threads posts from banned DP members must AA have at one time?"

    Hey gang,

     

    This thread is less about programming in bB than it is to acknowledge its use. This thread about the new releases of NERDS and The Last Ninja got me to thinking: Should the bB logo be mandatory for all bB releases? The concern in the thread is that buyers wouldn't know that the games were built/programmed using bB. But should that make a difference? Would you - as a buyer now, not a bB user - need/want to know that bB was used?

     

    My thought is that it would be nice to give credit to batari for his hard work by slapping this logo someplace on the cart label. This identifies the use of bB, as well as giving batari a much-deserved salute. And the more bB games that are released on cart, the more we can see how much his program in use.

     

    However, I think some folks (myself included) can also see this as "branding" the cart as something less than a "real" homebrew. I think some folks view bB games as somewhere between a hack and a programmed-from-scratch game. That using bB is "cheating" somehow. Do you think using the bB logo on a cart would affect sales of that release? Do you think someone may pick up a new cart (at an expo or con) and say "Yay! New game!" but be disappointed when they plugged it in and it's YAbBS? (Yet another batari Basic shooter)

     

    If the logo were to become mandatory, I believe AA should be the pacesetter and begin using the logo on all future bB games. (I honestly don't know if Solar Plexas, Phantom II/Pirate, or GoSub! use the logo on the cart label...) I would think any bB programmer would be pleased to have this logo appear on the label - simply for crediting batari for making the game possible in the first place. Also, it would show what bB is capable of. "Wow! This was programmed with bB? I never would have guessed!"

     

    Just my two cents. Wanted to get a dialogue going with the bB users. What do you think? Should bB cart releases have a mandatory logo appear?

    Atari2600.com, I would recommend you somehow incorperate the bB logo found on this page into your box/label art; in order to let buyers know, like I said before, what they're getting. Hope this helps.
    Hmmm... Neat logo. Me likey. But it begs the question: "Do the AA releases of Solar Plexas, Phantom II/Pirate, and GoSub! use this logo on the label?"

     

    If not, maybe that should be used for all future AA bB releases, in order to let the buyers know what they're getting. Or should the logo be optional? (After all, programmers don't usually credit the programming platform used.) If AA/bB programmers can't be bothered to use the logo, I guess we can hardly dogpile on any other bB releases that don't acknowledge the use of the program to design the game.

     

    EDIT: Oh, and I like the concept of "AA bB". If we can just figure out a "CC"...

     

    How about "Atari Age batari Basic Cuttle Cart Compatable" release? Or "AAbBCCC release?"

    Just something I would like to point out: from the screenshots posted at atari2600.com both N.E.R.D.S and The Last Ninja seem to be un-mistakably bB (batari Basic) created games.... I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but I just thought I should educate the buyer first.
    Yeah, I noticed this too and posted as such myself over at Stalag 13. I would hope that the instructions (or box art or label or something) would identify it as a bB-built game, more or less to give credit to batari for making games like these possible. (Not to brand it as "less than a real homebrew" though.) I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run. Some of the bB-built games have been pretty amazing. Hopefully these squeeze some new ideas and gameplay into the stalwart 2600.

    To DP guys: Sorry to say but I've been lurking at your forums over the last couple of months and the quality of the forums (and the people) are heading towards downhill.

    For a guy who wants to keep a low profile at CGE from the DP guys, you are just determined to say silly stuff like this, ensuring some kind of dialogue. Don't worry, I've passed along your concerns to the membership. But I don't think you have to worry about a PM.

    Actually, since you're this close to breaking my Halloween record (as stated in numerous previous posts), there's really no point in our head-to-head competition. You have me obviously outclassed and outgunned. So you are instead cordially invited to play with yourself all weekend.

    Amongst collectors/enthusiants? Nah. Don't think so. But I believe the general public's interest has cooled off somewhat.

     

    For a long time, you could go to any flea market or garage/boot sale and buy Atari 2600 carts for 25 to 50 cents a pop. Systems for $5 - often still boxed. Well, once the general public found eBay and once news stories of "How much is that old game system in YOUR basement worth?" started getting noticed, everyone with a spare Combat cart was tossing it up for auction with an opening bid of $30. And if it really WAS a rarity, you weren't going to see it for $100 - Nope, a $500 opening bid was there. Fleas market vendors priced their wares to astronomical "WTF" levels. And if you gave a good offer for anything at a garage sale, you'd get a roll of the eyes and the phrase (say it with me), "I can get more than that on eBay!" So the speculators outside of the hobby started to flood the market with overpriced common stuff or INSANELY-priced rare stuff.

     

    Plus you couldn't walk into Target or Hot Topic without seeing an Atari or NES "retro" t-shirt. They were trying to capitalize on the retro craze too.

     

    Well, the years have gone by and the "outsiders" STILL have not sold that $30 Combat cart. The stores are filled with Atari shirts (marked down to $8), and flea market vensors are willing to discuss their prices rather than holding firm. Garage sales people realize that they CAN'T get that much on eBay anymore and are desperate to move their stuff they've had for years. I think - like Beanie Babies, comic books, and baseball cards - the speculators came in, tried to make their money, and are now moving on to the next Hot Thing. So prices are coming back down as folks desperately try to unload the carts they hoarded.

     

    And we collectors will still be here to pick up the pieces.

    Hey, everyone who was there. Are you all around the Cleveland are? if so we need to have a get together or 2

    Every year around Halloween, many of the DP Ohio/Michigan/nearby states gets together at one of the Ohio amusement parks (Cedar Point and King's Island being two favorites - with emphasis on the CP Arcade). Watch for the announcements over yonder in the Fall and feel free to swing on out!

    I doubt you have Anteater as the prototype is owned by the Blue Sky Rangers and the rom is only in the hands of one or two individuals whom I sincerely doubt would ever give it to you.

    Had a great time at the new location. An on-site bar and food? C'mon! Gotta keep it there! (Plus it's next to Cleveland Hopkins, in case anyone wants to fly in from outta state! LOL )

     

    Great to see the old CCAG guard again, plus it was great seeing some new faces at our lil' local meet too. Good turnout, but not overly crowded, plenty of good deals to be had too. (Just ask anyone who walked by my table at closing.)

     

    There may be another one this year in late fall, so stay tuned!
