Nice to see VGC magazine still kickin'. Shame others didnb't fare as well. I miss Classic Gamer Magazine and Manci.
I think you may want to check out "Revival" at the Good Deal Games website. It's a foreign-based fan mag (based in France, I think?), but issues are translated into English and distributed through GDG. It's a pretty good read (though the translations can get humorous at times). Color cover, black and white interior, 40+ pages. Very thorough material and very current.

Usually at CGE, they have one row of classic machines set up - all that you mentioned and more, in fact - so folks can play the games of yesteryear. And most vendors have their new releases up and running on the systems they're for so you can "try before you buy." As far as wanting to "test" any games you're about to purchase, I've seen plenty of that as there are plenty of systems running and most vendors are happy to let you fire the game up to test it.But if you're just asking if there's stuff to play, yup, lots of that too. Stop by the DP/CGE "Classic '80s Living Room" and join the gang in a 2600 Warlords tourney or a rousing game of Combat. Always a hoot.
Nice, thanks for the info!
Do they have any coin-op machines of classic games? I've still never played Robotron with double joysticks, and I'd really like to!Oh, yes. Classic arcade machines should be lining the walls yet again. In years past there'd be upwards of 40 machines up and running. Here are some links to photo galleries from 1999 to 2005 (the last one held). These should give you plenty of ideas on what to expect:

I'll be there! Look for the guy in the obnoxious Hawaiian shirt.LOL Actually, half the attendees will be wearing Hawaiian shirts - the other half will be wearing retrogame T-shirts of some kind. You'll need to give us more to go on.

I'll be there, as I have been for many previous ones.
Yup, it's a smaller show, but no less fun! Always a bunch of vendors and good deals to be had. I find that it's smaller than some of the "big name" meetings, but it's bigger than many of the "local cons" I've attended. If you're there, you'll have a good time, trust me.

That kind of blows. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that Albert is really busy and can't fit this into his schedule, than this old fued remaining strong.
It could also be that Albert isn't bringing stuff from Texas to Las Vegas anymore. He's now in Ohio, which - look at a map - is a lot further east now. The shipping charges have got to be insane and driving a truck out would be tedious.

Are the glyphs on the side of the box decipherable?-John
You tell me.

To be perfectly honest, I'm colorblind and I thought he was light blue.Nice Hack! IMO it would look better if Bender was grey and the Devil Robot red.The manual must have had an interesting story to explain the pink Bender...
But it makes sense as pigs=pink, right?
Thanks for the fix. But 5 years ago, was the Debugger in casual useage? I don't remember it's availability. Also, this hack was done Ye Old Fashioned Way, as the Hack-o-matic wasn't available either. But the Stella debugger is useful for finding and fixing things like that: -
Great job.Especially on the box work.
That woulde be the label - both top and end. But thanks.

Hey gang,
Well, I stumbled across this bit of history last night. As way of background, I created this hack of Oink back in 2002. My original plan was to make a handful of carts for release at CCAG 2002 as way of fan-service to the TV show and so the local con would have an exclusive release of sorts. I made up a Geocities webpage discussing the release and I posted an announcement here and at DP.
Then, Fox Legal got wind of it and sent me a Cease-and-Desist. I was not to trudge upon their intellectual property. I was not to sell these carts. I was not to do anything of any sort that would have resulted in a profit. So, I threw everything away, lest the legal vultures descend.
Or so I thought...
Apparently, I had saved the final BIN and label art to a floppy disk (remember those?) that I then tossed into a long forgotten box. Last night, after 5 years, I stumbled across the files. So, for your pleasure, I present you with the long-forgotten Futurama 2600 hack of Activision's Oink. Enjoy.
(Instructions are long-gone, but the gist is that The Robot Devil has come to collect Bender who's trying to wall himself into the Planet Express offices.)

Are there at least screen shots?<rummages through some very old 3.5 floppies and spies a familiar label from 5 years ago>

Go to the Atari 2600 Hacks section for something interesting.

Actually, my guess is the (at that time) upcoming Futurama game for Xbox and PS2 is exactly why I *did* get a cease and desist from Fox. Even my lowly hack (of Oink if you were curious) got their attention and they made it clear they were not happy and were watching. So it got kilt.

Yup, I met Nolan at CGE a few years back. Very nice, very approachable guy. In fact, on the wall above my game collection, is a framed birthday card to me he signed at that same CGE.

During this year's CGE, there will be a free shuttle to and from the Expo and the Pinball HoF running every day.

I just gave this version a go on Stella, and it's by far the best home port of this game that I've ever played! But, according to the manual, there is some kind of cable that you need to connect the two joysticks together in order to use your car's special weapon.
Where can I find one of these, and is it hard to hook-up? I've never heard of linking two 2600 joysticks together before.
Actually, Spy Hunter came packed with a "duel joystick holder box-thing." Hard to describe - it was like a shallow box with two holes in it. You inserted two joysticks and their cords would pass through the holes in the bottom. Once in place, the bottom joystick was the controller and the button for you guns/missles. The other joystick wasn't used, but the other joystick BUTTON - which was now right next to the main button - was used to fire oil slicks and smoke screen.
So - in essence, this coupler just put the two joystick buttons next to each other for "easier" gameplay.

A 2600 game named "The Core?" Why does that ring a bell?
-
Heh. Ain't the concept of "consequences for your words and actions" a bitch?
But seriously, I don't think anyone's really gonna care that you're there or seek you out. But I wouldn't be tossing out empty warnings either lest "The Curious" track you down for the express purpose of seeing just what you WOULD do.
See you in Vegas. Or not. I'm not sure...
-
Nobody knows what I look like so I'll be cool.
Except for the fact that you'll be wearing a mandatory nametag from the moment you enter the Expo, and you unwisely posted your real name on more than one occassion at DP. You'll be quite easy to locate. Trust me. Me thinks you haven't really thought this through.

I'm going this year, but staying away from the Digital Press guys
So, you're planning on staying in your room all weekend?
-
This has gotten me cruxified before, but I'll say it again. I've just never "gotten" Yar's Revenge. This is one of THE classic 2600 games, but it always leaves me bored and cold. Avoid the dot/cannonshot, race up and nibble/shoot at the wall, repeat, shoot and blow up cannon. I just never understood why this is so popular as I'm usually bored in a few minutes.
-
Didn't know your real name Chuckles. Calm the hell down. Geez...What a stupid question
Go ahead and shatter the Halloween record as this apparently means Much more to you than it does to me, honestly. I guess this is a point of respect, honor, chutpah, or whatever for you. Truthfully, I truly don't care THAT much to put up with the attitude. Knock yourself out, dude.

1,625,950 Only my fifth real true try 3 million is coming
Niiiice. Now that you've posted a screengrab, you now have my attention. But you REALLY need to record your run (you'll need at least 2 tapes or one big-assed DVD) for Twin Galaxies. Bragging on AA is one thing. If you eventually break 2 or 3 mill, you'll want some kind of "offically recognized" score posted globally.
In fact, with all of your talk about "unpaid professional gameplayer", do you have ANY high scores officially recognized at TG? Just curious...

How long have you frequented AtariAge?
