I think that date is a good idea. Rather than dwell on the tragic events of that day (and the constant news feeds that'll air that day), getting out of the house and doing something constructive sounds like a grand alternative.

In order: 1. SCSIcide - a majorly fun homebrew. It'd be even more fun if I wasn't color-blind. I can barely make out the differences in color at the lower levels. When it gets to zippin', I'm clueless. 2. Warlords - but only with 4 players using the "Catch" option. Add a six-pack for a great party in itself. 3. Kaboom - the only game that has caused me to go without blinking for 3 hours at a time. 4. Night Driver - In my opinion, one of the first "First-Person" games for a home console. I used to play this in a darkened room for the full effect.

<snider-man pinwheels his arms wildly> DANGER! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! WARNING! WARNING! Ahem. Buyritegames has a HORRIBLE reputation. I don't think you've been "scammed" so much as you've fallen into a deal with a very shoddy, untrustworthy, lack-of-any-kind-of-assistance, fly by night business. If at all possible, pull your money out NOW. Nothing you've ordered is worth the hassle. And you need to do a Google on them and try not to weep by what you find.

Not to be a douchebag (and I swear I'm not picking on the topic starter), but does a system/game HAVE to have some kind of intrinsic "worth" before being considered collectable? I collect Spider-man toys and objects. I daresay none of them will be worth a dime in the coming years. I knew another person who collected salt-and-pepper shakers. Someone else collect doorknobs. And don't get me started on collections of teacups, glass animal figurines, antique medical equipment, etc. All worthless now, and worthless in the future. This tirade is just my frustration in the endless (it seems) "Is this worth my time to collect" posts I see here and abroad. If it's a system/game that you enjoy, collect it. If it's more than you wish to spend, don't get it. If you have to ask if it's "worth" it, why are you even considering purchasing it? You obviously aren't buying it to play and enjoy, but rather as some kind of future investment. Like I said, I'm not trying to bust balls here. But topics like this smack of the whole "Beanie Baby/Comic Book/Baseball Cards" bandwagon approach to collecting rather than collecting just solely for the love of having it. Sorry to be a downer. Flame me if you must. Oh *sigh* Nintendo systems are always a good choice to collect. Look at the prices the NES, Virt Boy, and SNES grab on eBay. Nintendo fans are ravenous and - one day - the N64 will be just as sought after as these other two systems.

Don't you wish idiots had never discovered our hobby?
Snider-man replied to Brad2600's topic in Auction Central
Story for all of you: The other day, I had a series of rare comics up for auction on eBay. At 1 minute left, price is holding at $73. (Hasn't moved in days, so I'm guessing that's where it will end.) 5 seconds left, in comes the snipe, and the auction ends at $75. Then Mr. $73 has the audacity to e-mail me. "I would've gone up to $90 if I had known I would've been sniped!" he wrote. Well asshat, had you placed THAT bid instead of sitting on a $73 bid for a week, you might have won it and I would've had another $15 in my pocket. Instead you bid as low as you thought you could win with, and you lost. I have no sympathy just because you were to friggin' stupid to bid $90 in the first place. AND, if the sniper had STILL beaten you with a $91 bid, don't bitch to me that you would've bid $95 given a chance. Bid your max and, if it goes higher, it's obviously more than you were willing to spend. It's simple kids. C'mon. -

Double posts suck. As do I.

That's covered over at DP, but - long story short - CAX wanted to charge two admissions - one for CGE and one for CAX, rather than one low-priced "combo" admission. ("Welcome to CAX! $25 please. Oh, you want to also go to CGE? That'll be another $25 please.") So, it was no-go. [EDIT: Found the post:]

Little Compartment On The Bottom Of The NES

Here's a link to an announcement on this very subject in fact: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28573 Better grab 'em now, as they're going bye-bye for a while very soon. And before there's any kvetching, RTFA. The free lista are being replaced with several other, better, free thingies.

Cinci is far from dead. They're having regular planning meetings as we speak. Things just fell apart at the wrong time last year, which is why it was canceled. It should be good to go for this year. That's great news. It was pretty discouraging last year as it was almost ready, then fell through. Then almost found another location, then fell through. My heart couldn't take it! Knowing that it'll be returning is good to know. Keep the updates coming! I'll pass, thanks.

I think CCAG is dead-in-the-water, for now. Same can be said for CinciClassic. I'm sure that - one day - each of these Ohio meets will return, but I bet it ain't gonna be in 2004. (Both promised a return in 2003, and neither materialized.) Geez...I really should get off my keister and organize that cheap-ass Ohio meeting I keep mulling over. Hmmm...

'S back. The Christians thrown to the metaphorical lions, as it were.

Zounds! First the PC5 website and now CGE! The h4><ors are restless! Albert, I'd put a lockdown on the AGE URL if I was you!

Who did the artwork for all those carts? Hi-res scans?
Snider-man replied to Starman's topic in Atari 2600
Actually, the CGE museum had TWO of the original paintings last year. They were Backgammon (as I recall) and WARLORDS! Wow, the Warlords one was incredibly cool. It looked to be a watercolor, but I never bothered to see who the artist was. If you go to the Digital Press website and check out photos from CGE 2003, I'm pretty sure someone posted a picture of those... <edit> Here's a picture that I stumbled across... Linked, 'cause the damn picture is HUGE. You may be able to see the artist signature just above the Knight's shoulder... http://www.digitpress.com/images/cge2k3/cge2k3_083.jpg -
Not only have I completed it, I did so once - ONLY ONCE - with a perfect score. Wow, I about went blnd dodging the bats and condors on that looooong climb up. However, I would've had TWO perfect games, but I once grabbed Quickclaw first - which ends the game - forgetting to go to the right and collect the cave rat. Lordy, was I pissed about that little snafu.

Great. Now I have the oldie song 'Along Comes mary' except with the word EBay stuck in my head... Great. Now I do too.

You know what I miss? Newsgroup auctions. RGVC used to be filled with 'em. Great deals on rare stuff from other collectors just looking to pare their own crap down. Amazing finds for great prices. Then along came eBay. *sigh*

Fuzzy memories here, but as I remember, those bottles of water were given out at E3 in 2002 or last year. It was when Atari was re-entering the videogame field, prior to being bought by Infogrammes. They had a booth at E3 and were giving these out. Nothing else was at the booth. Not saying that where THIS bottle came from, but I remember distinctly that the new Atari Fuji logo was first seen on those water bottles. Anyone wanna back me up on this?

Fox! Heh. Yep. Both apes and surly drunken robots have seen a Fox C&D at times, eh? And I can understand why. After all, the Planet of the Apes movie did sooooo well at the box office. No? Well, at least Futurama is still a viable Fox commodity. No? Huh. Then I guess the Fox lawyers are simply jackals. Yep. That's it.

Well. Uh, at least the manual's done.

I missed the initial Venture 2 mention. Thanks for clearing that up.

It's a Venture hack. Or - rather a Venture II: The Abysmal Abyss hack. Check out the room formations and obstacles added. Yup, I did that 3-4 years ago. Hmph.
-
HEY HEY HEY! Look at the rooms and overhead map! You didn't hack Venture - but rather Venture II! *My* Venture II! Now, granted, VII: THe Abyssmal Abyss is a hack itself, so I hold nothing propriatary. But *damn* - how's about at least letting me know what's going on? Like I said, VII is a hack itself, so I can't really raise any stink about it. BUt Thomas' PAL to NSTC hacks and controller hacks and what Hozer did with them caused a bit of a nasty scuffle. All I'm saying is I would've appreciated a "Hey, I'm gonna do this"-type notice. Or am I out of line, and anyone's hacks is fair game for any one else to screw with? I dunno. It's like hacking someone's from-scratch homebrew as far as I'm concerned.
