  1. Yup. There's a ton of great, great ideas floating around out there. And learning ASM is tough, tough, tough, but managable if one is focussed, patient, and driven enough. But finding the time to code, correct, recode, etc. is nigh impossible. I think I may just take two weeks vacation later this year solely for the purpose of sitting at my computer and pounding out code. Trying to do it after an 11-hour workday is impossible. And the weekends are filled with all of the around-the-house chores I've ignored during the weekdays. I have to ask the guys who have completed a game or two. *When* did you do most of your coding? And how did you work this time in with your job, home life, social time, sleep, etc.? Did you work on your games in the morning? Evening? How did you schedule?
  2. Moving away from the whole "Is eBay screwing up things for collectors" thread for just a moment, I gotta tell ya I love eBay. Oh, I hate the prices that somethings go for, but I've gotten some great deals that I'd never find in the wild. Best thing is that you can sell anything - *ANYTHING* - on eBay and there will be someone out there willing to give you $$$ for it. For example, I've been selling collectible and rare board games I've picked up at thrifts for a buck or less, or given to me by family and friends, etc. Well, in 8 months time, I made $1,000 doing this on eBay. Funded this year's trip to CGE for the wife and me. Other than the eBay fees and whatever I paid for these games over the 8 months (less than $100 by my calculations), nothing came out of pocket. How else can you earn that kind of cash sitting at home in front of the computer? Supplemental income, ahoy.
  3. I was wondering what was up, krisjohn. We've had an amicable relationship, and I couldn't tell *where* the attitude came from. But that didn't mean I had to sit here and eat it, so I called ya on it. Thanks for the apology. Sorry for the return smack-down. I should've realized you just weren't "you." Water under the bridge. Let's have a beer and move on.
  4. <deep cleansing breath. hold it. then exhale.> Hmm. Looking over my reply, is was a bit fury-filled. However, to paraphrase an earlier message: "Sorry for the venom spewed. While I withdraw the emotion, the base statement(s) stands."
  5. Kubaya, my Lorrrrrrrd. Kumbayaaaaaaaaa... (post edited to reflect calmer sensibilities)
  6. Aha! "EYE" never crossed my mind as a palindrome. Good eye! (Heh.) And I did remember that Otto was a name for the Elevator action guy, but never thought anybody would make that kind of leap. I expect a ton of Berzerk-VE guesses. Fortunately, Albert got that out of the way in a hurry. Thanks for playing. The next giveaway will be for an AWESOME game. But it'll be tough (but not Pitfall Harry tough. ) Here's a clue to the next contest. How well do you know Your Friendly Neighborhood Sniderman? It could be worth a rarity "7" cart to ya!
  7. Leonard, a coupla years ago when I started getting back into the 2600, I remember sending you an e-mail, looking for this. You let me know that you were mulling around a re-release. Consider me interested. Let me know if I can help out with any of the layout/editing chores. Even the TOC would be fun to proof. Sniderman
  8. Oh YEAH?!? Well...um...the Euro isn't...um...aesthetically pleasing! Yeah! Looks like Monopoly money! Not like the good ol' US dollar. All...green...and black. With big pictures of dead presidents. Dissing *my* money. Humph.
  9. WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! Congrats to OESII who was the first to correctly guess the identity of the Mystery Game - 2600 “Radar Lock.” If he’ll send me his address via private message, I’ll fire this great jet-fighter sim off to him. The Clues Revealed (this is kind of like The Mole, eh?): 1. In one message, I used the words “cruise” and “goose.” Remind you of any movies? That’s right, “Top Gun,” pointing to the gameplay of the Mystery Game. 2. In that same message, I mentioned the number 176. Since the serial numbers of all Atari-manufactured carts for the 2600 begins with “26,” just add those numbers to 176 to get “26176.” That is Radar Lock’s serial/release number. 3. My wife’s earring. 24K=golden. From The Netherlands. Add all these up and you get the band Golden Earring from The Netherlands. This one-hit wonder band only had one song that has lasted from the 1970s to today. That song is “Radar Love” – just 2 letters off from the name of the game itself! 4. In another message, I said “Lock this puppy down.” LOCK, get it? 5. I said it wasn’t a Xonox release when you guys started harping on every double-ender variation known. I also remarked about a “Danger Zone.” “Top Gun” hint again, anyone? 6. In another post, I said that someone’s previous guess was “half-right.” Well, if you look at the guess just above this post of mine, you’ll see that Thomas guessed “Radar.” Like I said, he was “half right.” 7. Oh, and my pal “OTTO?” Well, it has nothing to do with Evil Otto. In one later message I even said ‘clue spelled out.’ In other words, it’s the spelling of “OTTO” that’s the clue. OTTO is a palindrome – a word that spells the same forwards and back. Another palindrome - "Able was I, ere I saw Elba." – appeared in yet another message. And – to the best of my knowledge – RADAR is the only palindrome found in an Atari 2600 cart title. I realize that the company XONOX is also palindromic. (I think Debro picked up on the whole palindrome thing.) Sadly, that wasn’t what I was fishing (Ha!) for. Hope everyone enjoyed playing. Watch for yet another Sniderman giveaway in the near future. For the record, everything I’ve ever given away previously has had a rarity rating no higher than 4. However, the next giveaway will be for a 2600 cart with an AtariAge/Digital Press rarity of 7!!! (And none of this “Guess what it is” stuff either. You’re gonna WORK for this one!) Big prize coming up soon, gang! Stay tuned![/b]
  10. Ah, ya bunch of lemmings! Final hint: Move out of the Danger Zone, for it's not a Xonox release. Guesses are cleared. Have at it.
  11. Someone's recent guess is "half-right." Hint. Hint. Supply both halves for the win! Hint. Hint. Guesses are cleared. Everyone try again.
  12. Debro, is that a light bulb I see over your head? Incorrect, but a fascinating guess. Otto would be pleased. As Napoleon was rumored to have said, "Able was I, ere I saw Elba." Which is stupid, seeing as how he spoke French and would have limited knowledge of English. Guesses are cleared. Previous guessers may take guess. I think somebody's gonna lock this puppy down any minute now. Sniderman P.S. Oh yeah, clue may or may not blah blah blah....
  13. Nope, nope, nope and nope. I'd post more, but I gotta help my wife find one of her frickin' earrings before I go to work. (Hope to find it. It's 24k and I had them special ordered from The Netherlands, for Pete's sake.) Gotta look and motor, gang. Good luck. Guesses are cleared and previous guessers may guess again. This message may or may not contain a clue to the identity of the Mystery Game. Otto, er, I mean, Sniderman. P.S. Here's a clue spelled out for ya: My pal, Otto. Subtle?
  14. Between Mayhem, Marco, and Marc O licking their chops and getting their snipes ready, I daresay this proto'll be going overseas when the smoke clears.
  15. *Yawwwwwn* Good monring gang! (At least, it is for me right now.) I thought someone would cruise to victory by now, but I see that isn't the case. (You ought to try reading through these answers at 6:30 a.m. when you're half-asleep. Did this thread really get 176 hits?) Maybe my clues are too subtle this time. (Venture II? Why you silly goose. No more of those, I can assure you. ) I'll try to be a bit more obvious. Guesses are cleared. Previous guessers may now take another shot. Otto (hahaha) said there may or may not be a clue in this message. As for "the fishes" from previous messages, all I see are red herrings.
  16. Ugh, are *YOU* off-base with this observation. You'll find "nerd 'tude" on just about every board you visit - and AtariAge ain't immune, my friend. Sorry you feel that way about DP, but this site isn't exactly an island of maturity either. Scroll above for game-set-match. And, lest you think I'm throwing stones in this here Crystal Cathedral, I've been the starter of my fair share of idiotic tantrums and diatribes, m'self. I am the Embodiment of Nerd 'Tude. (You know, "Nerd 'tude" has just become my favorite phrase EVER.)
  17. I figured someone would guess that. Sorry to be the one to tell ya Albert but.... FISHED IN! FISHED IN! The game is not a CGE-release. At least, not this time. And, before someone guesses, it ain't regular ol' Berzerk either. Take a look at past giveaways. I don't giveaway *psshhh* commons. <screws on best withering sneer> Guesses are cleared. Previous guessers may guess again. There may or may not be a clue in this message. Sniderman P.S. I got a Berzerk-VE and it ain't being given away, that's for sure.
  18. Jeepers gang! I must get some kind of sick pleasure out of giving away all of my hard-earned treasures, eh? Here we go again with yet another one of my AtariAge-Famous 2600 Mystery Cart Giveaways! Same rules as before, and it's open to newbie and veterans alike. My friend Otto (haha *snort*) says I gotta reiterate the rules for the you newbies: I have a 2600 cart - tested and working - that will go to the first person who posts to this thread what the identity of the Mystery Cart is! Post your guess to the cart's title to this thread. First correct answer gets it! I will also mail it free anywhere in the world, so let's get the global community involved! (Though I've mailed previous winners to Germany and Australia!) A few details: Only one guess per person. Guess more than once and you're out/disqualified/no longer eligible. Every so often, I'll pop my head in here to either ID a winner or let you know the contest is still going on. (I may also drop a hint or two.) When I post to this thread, all previous answers are "cleared" and previous guessers are allowed to take another crack at it. Otto (heehee *sniff* I kill me!) said it's only fair. I've given away Tapper, Mountain King, Trick Shot, Pitfall II, Lost Luggage, Venture II, and a CGE 2K2 program to you people. Huh? HUH!?! How's about THEM apples? <--(I wished this bounced) There may or may not be a clue to the Mystery Game in this message. However, if you think the clue's too obvious, then my pal Otto says you were fished in!
  19. I'll withhold judgement until after I see what happens. After all, LOTR, McDonalds, Elevator Action, Save the Whales, etc. were all "missing in action, never to surface." Maybe it's legit. That'd be cool. Heaven help him if it ain't though.
  20. I'll withhold judgement until after I see what happens. After all, LOTR, McDonalds, Elevator Action, Save the Whales, etc. were all "missing in action, never to surface." Maybe it's legit. That'd be cool. Heaven help him if it ain't though.
  21. Actually, I got two nice stand-ups for sale in my hometown in Ohio: Alpine Ski for $200 and Ikari III:The Rescue for $100 (needs a picture tube though). Will be picking up the Ski when it goes on sale over Labor Day. Hoo-hoo!
  22. Arrrrr, matey. Uh, I mean, "Nope."
  23. I sure as hell don't. If he was willing to part with $100 for it, more power to him. However, his impatience just cost him $55. Virtually every single game that's ever been sold at any CGE is available after the show in some fashion. (With exceptions like Ms. Space Fury, boxed Combat II, Elevator Action, etc.) I'm certain, with all the hubbub, a copy of voice-enhanced Berzerk would've gone for over $100 on eBay right after the show ended. Yet, it'll be available - soon - for much, much less.
  24. I agree. Boomerang rules. But, if ya like Dragon's Lair, I got three nifty videos myself: 1. The Starcade episode where the contestants play nothing but Dragon's Lair. 2. A video where someone hooked up a laser disc player and recorded - from start to finish - Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II: Timewarp, Space Ace, and Cobra Command. 3. I sat in on the Dragon's Lair 3D demo at CGE and videotaped about 10 minutes of gameplay. This game will be AWESOME. Coming in the fall this year.
