  1. Yeah Pitbull, meant to say congrats in an earlier message. I'm assuming you plan to attend CinciClassic first week of Oct.? Hmmmmm?
  2. I'm certain Sean or John will be passing through here with the offical word, but a notice was just posted to the DP boards. They have a few copies of the 2600 releases as well as Vectrex Cube Quest left over from the show. The prices are what was being charged at the show plus shipping. Quantities are limited. You want 'em? Go get 'em... Click here for info: CGE Merchandise page
  3. Very, very cool. Thanks guys for going through all this trouble just for our benefit. I'm troubled though. When I saw those pictures of myself, the first two thoughts that popped into my head: 1. Christ, I need to lose some weight. 2. Christ, I need to grow some hair. Ah, vanity. Thy name is Snider-man.
  4. What? You mean pushing forward and pulling back on the joystick at the same time? It's as easy as: 1. Manuver just above the pod, trying to stay as still as possible. 2. Thrust as hard as possible. 3. In the .00005 seconds before you zip out of range, activate the beam and pray you snag it. RTFM, indeed.
  5. Thank GOD someone pointed this out to me. Never noticed it in the directions before. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get above a pod, thrust real hard, and try to activate the beam, hoping you hadn't moved out of range? Ugh. Now I've been snagging pods left and right. This was a HUGE revelation for me and I appreciate the fact that I now know. This game is so much better when you can play it correctly.
  6. As I recall, re, Missing in Action 7800, there was a problem with the manufacturing when they started burning/soldering ROMs. The game just wasn't dumping properly. They made an announcement about a month or so prior to CGE that these would not be ready in time. I think I'm pretty certain that that's what happened.
  7. Wow. That confused me for a moment. In exchange for me selling these at CGE, I was allowed to keep serial number 1 myself. I had to look again to make sure I didn't have # 7 or #11 or something.
  8. Interestingly, I was just discussing this with Randy the other day. He currently has over 1,000 stripped down old Atari cart casings for current projects. He said he'll likely go through these within a year. After that, he's pondering using one of the newly manufactured cart cases - like those made by JOe Grand. HOwever, for now, he has all the cases he needs.
  9. I believe I'm the only one who hopes - nay, PRAYS - that the robots will never shoot diagonally. I have enough trouble at the higher levels without them being able to match me shot for shot. When they finally are able to make those corner shots - EEP. I'l screwed. Oh yeah, the Berzerk w/voice is one of the highlights of my collection as well. I had a chance to discuss it with Mike at length on the con floor. Cool guy, cool info, cool game.
  10. Hmm.... $25 was the price I was told to charge Mayhem. Not certain why the price dropped $5, unless Randy's just trying to unload the overage. Sorry to hear the game doesn't work on PAL. I wonder if Fabrizio is working on a PAL version, seeing as he's in Italy and all...
  11. Well, I learned the hard way after many years of eBaying that leaving feedback is VOLUNTARY. Check it out. Says so right there on the site. So, although it's indeed asshole-ish and it isn't nice, no one has to ever leave feedback. Hint all you want or need to. But if they don't feel like posting feedback, you don't get any. Sniderman Feedback of 440, but has left 685...
  12. I'll be a son of a gun. I figured it was just someone pulling our legs. I had no idea that these carts were so easy to find in Europe. They're incredibly hard to find over here in the States. I'll just sit over here and try to remove my foot from my mouth now. Thanks.
  13. Uh, kids? The contest ended some time ago. It's over. Prize has been mailed. Don't reply to this thread anymore. Thanks. Sniderman P.S. I shall edit the original entry message to reflect this for those who don't read past the first message...
  14. Hmm...well, I've used Glib and Master Builder. Maybe an occassional WaterWorld. Not sure about your carts though. By the way, the boards for MagicCard work great once you rip off the old ROMs.
  15. D'oh!!! Sorry junglehunter! You posted just as I was typing up the winning message! Though you posted "last," you posted after I had returned and declared a winner! Better luck next time! (Missed it by 15 seconds!)
  16. *yawwwwwn* *streeeeeetch* Well, after a bit of a nap, I jump back to see that KRISJOHN is the winner! (though Marty was the last poster, but - as the announcer - has placed himself out of the running. Besides, didn't you get your program this weekend Marty?) If KRISJOHN will private message me his address, I'll fire off this winning parcel! Congrats! The contest is over now. Go to bed. *snooooorrrrreeeee*
  17. ((THIS NOTE ADDED 2:47 p.m. 8/14/2002 - WE HAVE A WINNER! THIS CONTEST HAS ENDED. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS THREAD! CONGRATS TO KRISJOHN AND THANKS FOR ALL OF THE OTHER ENTRIES!)) Hey gang! Well, I'm back from CGE and going through my ill-gotten booty. Or my ill-booten gotty. Anyway, I discovered that I had somehow picked up an extra CGE 2002 program. This 22 page brochure is an interesting collectible that contains a bunch of info on this year's event. So, having already gotten one, I figured I'd give this to someone who may want it. I also have a Dragon's Lair 3D postcard that I got that I'll throw in with this. Rules are more simple than ever. After I post this message, I'll ignore this thread until later - later today, sometime tomorrow, a week from now, who knows? Anyway, when I revisit THIS THREAD (not Atari Age, but this thread SPECIFICALLY), whoever posted the last message is the winner. This isn't an excuse for someone to go spastic and post a message every minute, hoping to score. In fact, to keep it fair, you're only allowed to post *3* times. If I come back and the last poster has posted to this thread 4 or more times, he or she is OUT and I'll go to the next person. So, time your posts carefully. Who knows? I might revisit in 10 minutes. And I will NOT be paying attention as to who the last poster is on the Forum listings. When I get back - and it'll be at some random time/whim or mine - that person is the winner. Anyway, it's a simple game for a simple prize. I have better stuff, but that's for a future day. I'm outta here. When I return, we'll have a winner! "Sniderman" "AKA: That guy who gives away too much stuff"
  18. Hmmm...the copy I got at CGE doesn't work. Phoo. Tried it on two different systems too. Might have to get it replaced. Phoo again.
  19. But my signature is so illegible, it'd be impossible to prove it was actually me who signed it. Though, there *is* one item I autographed that will be in the CGE auction this year.
  20. - When you do score a rare cart in the thrift store, it will be that 1-in-1,000 cart that won't work no matter how much you clean, scrub, and pray. - We you reach 'round back to flip the RF switch, it will have twisted around so the trigger is in the worst possible location for you to reach. - If you score a box of carts, it will be filled with commons. However, an axiom of this rule is that the INSTRUCTIONS at the bottom of the box will be for stuff like Quadrun, Glib, and Waterworld. The seller will have no idea where those other carts went. - "RARE" carts on ebay aren't. - If you answer an ad for Atari carts, they will actually be for the Nintendo system. Or the Atari 5200. Or the Commodore 64. Or for anything other than the Atari 2600. - When you finally get the ultra-rare cart (spending a ton of $$$ in the process), you'll be disappointed that the gameplay actually sucks pretty bad. You will sell it before the end of the year anyway. - The one time you decide to play "Custer's Revenge" or "Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em" to see what all the fuss is about will be the one time your girlfriend/wife walks into the room unannounced.
  21. Most - if not all - of the celebrities are very approachable and would be happy to sign anything set before them for a fan of their work. There's usually not an "autograph" panel, per se, but they can be found after a panel they're speaking on or just milling about, enjoying the convention with everyone else. (Personally, I'd love to get Warren Robinett put his John Hancock on an Adventure cart!) However, use some decorum. Make small talk if you wish, but don't badger them with obscure questions from days LONG since past. Don't critique their games for them. ("You know what would've improved Adventure? Here's what I think...") And, if you're getting their autograph, don't hand them a stack of 20 carts and ask that they sign them all. And, lest you wonder, I've seen each of these things happen in one form or another at various comic/sci-fi/gaming/video game conventions.
  22. I am married, but for the sake of this question, I am not. What game would I have to be playing? NONE OF THEM. Turn down human interaction with a warm, inviting woman WHO ASKED FOR MY NUMBER? Cripes, is this a no-brainer. I'd be at that phone in a New York minute. My Atari will be waiting when I got back. Now, if it had been - hypothetically - a friend of mine who wanted to go out drinkin' or something, he'd better call back if I'm playing Dragonstomper or Survival Island.
  23. Actually, John Dondzilla also designed a Berzerk clone for the Odyssey2 system called Amok. Supposed to be quite good too.
  24. Not particularly. It's that whole "If I told him to jump off a cliff..." argument. The Atari 2600 is a pretty hardy little machine and you'd really have to do something grotesque to break/ruin it (like put it in the dishwasher). techniques vary, but here's mine. I'm certain someone will pipe up and disagree with something in here. If you're just worried about the outside casing and exposed slots, just use a slightly dampened cloth to wash the plastic housing off (use a QTip to get in the crevaces). Do NOT get water down in the cart slot. To clean the cart slot, there are several ways. I use a QTip with alcohol on it. Take care to keep the "fuzzing" of the QTip to a minimum. You're just trying to dissolve, dislodge, and remove the dirt built-up in there. The alcohol evaporates instantly, so there's little worry of moisture damage. Or, if you want to play it *really* safe, get a can of compressed air from an electronics store, and "blow out" all the dust and dirt you can. If you're wondering about how to clean the *insides* of your Atari, take out the screws, dissassemble, and place in the dishwasher top rack. Use lots of Jet Dry. <--(obligatory "I'm only kidding...don't do it" smilie.)
  25. See that label on the bottom of it? Says right there: "Dishwasher safe." Just be sure to use lots of Jet Dry too. You're welcome.
