  1. As mentioned in the previous message, "centrally" located meant "not on a coast." Des Moines, Iowa; Dallas, TX; and Topeka, KS are all "centrally" located in my eyes. Hell, even a po-dunk city like Louisville, KY is "centrally" located. If they wanted the true "geographic center" of the U.S., it's about two miles northwest of Lebanon, KS. (All that's there is a stone column, a picnic table and miles and miles of wheat fields.) In other words, isn't really north, south, east, or west in the U.S. - it's just sorta "in the middle -out there - though a little south-western-ish."
  2. My understanding from past conversations is that Vegas is the "permanent" home of CGE for a while for a number of reasons. It's "centrally" located in the US, so you avoid that whole east/west coast thing. Folks from other countries want to see a city like Vegas when they come in, so the tourist factor is a big part. Except for gambling and airfare, Vegas is pretty cheap to visit, stay in, and eat at. Plus, Vegas is internationally known for "gaming" in one way or another. The city LOOKS like a freakin' arcade! I, for one, this Vegas is a perfect city for CGE.
  3. Let's not forget CNN. They had a little segment last year that I videotaped. Wouldn't doubt they'd be here this year. Though Tech TV not making it is pretty pathetic. It's stuff like this that they cover, right?
  4. Yeah, but when my "Snidey-sense" begins to tingle, I have to excuse myself and go to the bathroom. It's quite embarrassing. I was kinda hoping that Stan could work in the phrase "Wallopin' web-snappers!" Did Spidey *ever* say that in the comic? 'Cause he sure's as hell said it a lot in the Bakshi cartoons!
  5. I deliberately avoided posting any guesses during this contest, because 1. I have the cart already and 2. I think I may be as big a Spidey fan as Stan (check out my screen name for Pete's Sake). Here's how I would've done if anyone cared: 1. Duh. 2. Would've taken a bit of research, but the answer was out there. 3. I not only knew this, I have all the live-action Spideys with Mr. Hammond on Video. (Even better, I have all 77 episodes of Spider-man from the 60s on video! Does whatever a spider can, you know. ) 4. My personal faves would've included Electro, Doc Ock, Vulture and Carnage. Maybe Kaine just to be different. 5. Lee/Ditko. Yuppers. 6. Hmmm... this was a toughy. Was familar with the series, but never saw any of them. Would've had to find this. Good question. 7. Gwen and Ben for me. 8. and 9 - 10,000 and 10. Gottem. 10. As God as my witness, I guessed you probably had 850-900 comics. Anything over 1,000 seemed....excessive. Anyway, thanks goes to Stan for a fun contest with a great prize! Stan, you and I (and Chris too, he seems Spider-riffic!) need to have a serious Spidey-related Geek fest in a chat room one day. Later! THWIP!
  6. Let's see...I remember that thread. Wasn't "Excalibur" the working title of a later release (Sword of Saros, maybe?).
  7. Ahem....if you wanna get all technical, Venom made a bit of a "shadowy" first appearance in 298. Though the final "Honey, I'm home" appearance at the end of 299 was awesome. Tim (Huge fan of Todd McF. in the day) Snider P.S. Right now, above my Atari collection, I have the original artwork from the first appearace of Cardiac (#345 I believe) signed by Mark Bagley, who now does SM Unlimited. Oh yeah, Spidey appears in two big-ass panels. I'll try to post a link to a picture soon... And here's the link to a hastily-thrown-up page with crappy overly-digitized photos: Sniderman's Spider-Man Original Art
  8. But, I have to admit, Marvel/Spidey lost me as a regular reader with two really stupid storylines: 1. The return of Peter's parents (Ugh. Whatta waste.) and, of course, the swill-storm that was... 2. The Clone Saga. Although, the Tangled Webs series is remarkably good and the new Spidey Unlimited is fun as hell. I should start picking them up again....
  9. Can't remember the specific issue, but you must be referring to the SW series. "Costume," heh. Little did we know.
  10. Stan, I can't believe that you of all people didn't win the last contest. And you call yourself a Bluegrass resident. For shame.... If I come up with something, I just might take you up on that. But I won't be doing anything until I return from CGE. Stan, what say *you* come up with a way to put Spidey in the hands of someone? As the resident Spidey fan (though I bet I could give you a run for your money), come up with a 10-question quiz of Spidey lore. Make it obscure. Ask questions about the cartoons (60s through SM Unlimited), the recent Rami flick, the comics, the newspaper strip, the live-action show starring Nick Hammond. First with all 10 answers correct gets the cart. There's your contest. Go nuts.
  11. Activision Decathlon without a doubt. I have this method where I hold the jotstick base in my left hand and I place the end of the stick against my right palm. By cupping your hand slightly and shaking your hand rapidly, you can max out the meter with very little wrist action. However, after a game or two, you will either have a very large blister in the center of your hand OR you'll have a very tender area where you wore the skin off. A true band-aid-needing game.
  12. Hey Chromy! Ask anyone on this board and they'll tell ya that I used to hold "Newbie-specific" giveaways all of the time. But, since it was decidedly unfair and no way to really prove who was a newbie, these little giveaways are open to all. And, if I was to e-mail you before a contest, I'd have to e-mail everyone else on these boards to make it fair. Don't have the time to e-mail several hundred people that frequent here. Best bet, just keep your eyes and ears open. I hold a giveaway whenever the mood hits me.
  13. Ugh, I never thought to do that. I typed in "Federal Hill" and got places in Washington, Boston, Baltimore, etc. etc. etc. The KY location didn't pop up until the 3rd page. Nice thinking.
  14. The sun shines bright on My Old Kentucky Home…. Congrats! Thomas is the winner of Mountain King with a guess of “a U.S. Kentucky state quarter.” (A non-U.S. resident, I might add to those of you who bailed...) That coin’s been in my wallet since the day it was minted. The clues that appeared: 1. My mom gave it to me last year – a hint to the 2001 mint date. 2. Federal Hill is the name of “My Old Kentucky Home” that appears on the reverse side of the coin. 3. I never got to post that I was born and raised in Bardstown (KY) – the city in which that specific building is located. 4. When I said two of you were close, one person guessed “a coin” whereas someone else guessed a Buckeye – obviously homing in my current Ohio heritage (see my location below). Sorry, but we were going for my Kentuckian heritage. 5. 2 cents and 23 cents. Need I say more? Congrats to the winner and we’ll get that cart to ya post-haste!
  15. I think that's what he meant by the .bin image Thomas.
  16. There are many "Federal Hill"s in the U.S. folks. Find the right one, and you've won. I expect a winner within 5 minutes. But that's just my .02 (and another .23 for good measure...) Guesses are now open to everyone. Good luck.
  17. Specifics needed. Last clue: Federal Hill. Who's fastest? Go!
  18. Wrong Chris, but *that's* the kind of specific guesses I'm looking for (rather than "a key"). And darn nice of you to donate if you win. I'll throw this out. This object I carry is tough to find in any country other than the U.S.
  19. Interesting guesses. Well, two of you is on the right track. One of you is homing in on the object itself, whereas another is homing in on the specific "intent" of said item. No need to give you further clues, as some of you are obviously paying attention to the fact that there's info about me out there in Internet-land. Guesses are cleared. Previous guessers may go again. A few of you will kill yourself when you discover the answer.
  20. Hey gang! Well, just enough time to throw another cart at you folks before I pack up and leave for CGE next week. (That is, unless this giveaway ends within an hour or so…again.) While eagerly awaiting the DVD release of “The Lord of The Rings,” I came up with the idea for this month’s giveaway. How many of you read “The Hobbit?” Well, when Bilbo was far underground in Gollum’s lair, they traded riddles. If Bilbo won, he’d get his freedom. If Gollum won, he’d get to eat Bilbo. Well, Bilbo won when he felt in his pocket and touched The Ring. “What have I got in my pocket?” he asked, stumping Gollum. And that’s this round’s question. I have a specific item I constantly have with me, usually carried in a pocket. Tell me what it is, and I’ll send you a copy of “Mountain King” for the Atari 2600. (Seemed only appropriate.) As before, only one guess per person. I will occassionally come through and clear out the guesses, allowing those who have guessed before another chance at guessing. Place your guesses in this message thread. Do not e-mail me directly. Because this may be tough, here are a few clues to get you started. 1. My mom gave me this last year so that I'd always remember my home. 2. Your answer must be specific. Answers that are vague or "all-encompassing" ("Is it a piece of paper?") will be considered wrong. That’s it gang. I'll toss in more clues as we go. Good luck.
  21. Sorry, would've posted sooner had I seen this thread. As I remember (it's been many years), you have to slowly approach the gate in the "crouch position." Step towards it, closer, closer, going slowly. The gate should drop, but you won't get caught in it (be sure to rear back a bit when it falls, just to be certain.) Then stand up, wait for the gate to rise, and dash under it as fast as you can as soon as there's enough clearance room. (Otherwise, you'll just bonk your head a few times, having to start over again.) If it goes all the way back up to the top, it'll slam back down when you try to go under. Timing is crucial.
  22. GBA= - ganglionic-blocking agent - gingivobuccoaxial - general business administration - George Brown and Associates Inc. - German Business Association - Georgia Banks Online - Guam Board of Accountancy - Groupe de Bombardement d'Assaut However, I refuse to jot down what this obviously refers to in a video-game-type way. You're a bright boy. You can figure it out.
  23. <sarcasm> I would like free consoles and video game stuff too, but I don't want to pay a lot of money for shipping. Can people just put cash into an envelope and mail it to me? Then I can just buy the stuff I need. Thank you. </sarcasm>
  24. It's Las Vegas.... In Nevada.... In the desert.... In August. Leave the parka at home. Seriously, I packed nothing but a couple of game-related t-shirts, a Hawaiian shirt or two and a few pairs of shorts. I used one carry-on for these items and everything I bought (which was a LOT) fit in it for the trip home. However, if you have a carry-on filled with video game carts and electronics, prepare to be stopped during the airport screening.
  25. Hey, if it wasn't for flicker, you'd never see the Easter Egg in Adventure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not just the "magic dot" that gets you into the hidden room. It's also the massive flicker caused when you stack up all the other items in the next rrom.
