  1. - Getting a perfect score on Pitfall II (achieved only once)

    - The first time I solved ROTLA

    - The first time I slayed the Dragon in Dragonstomper. (Took me a LONG time to do.)

    - My first game of 2600 Tapper. The arcade game was a favorite and I never knew this game was released until the day I saw it in the store. I raced to the bank, withdrew some $$$ and played the Hell out of it all day. It's not exactly a gameplay achievement, but it *was* rewarding.

  2. Very very very very very very very cool. The original release of Thrust was kinda lowkey without much fanfare, though word-of-mouth has let everyone know what a great game it is. I daresay that this release will be much-sought after and will completely rock. Thomas and XYPE has done it again, bringing us something new, never before seen, and completely original.

A foot pedal controller for the 2600. Neato. In the future, it'd be great to adapt it for use with Pole Position, Enduro, etc., but I digress.

Gonna go get in line for this one!

  3. Just a reminder that a great show is forthcoming in the Cleveland area.

    CCAG Show

Don't know how many of ya are planning to attend, but there's plenty to see and do. Win a Klax upright arcade machine! Buy, sell, and trade classic videogame carts and computer software. Plenty of displays and hands-on stuff! Plus, two CCAG Special Edition Atari games will be released. If you live in the area, make plans to attend!

  4. Dragonstomper. You fight your way through the Enchanted Countryside, buy all of your supplies, sneak through the cave to the dragon's lair....and get slaughtered, having to start from the beginning again. Great high when you beat the flamethrower, but depressing when you're the one getting "stomped."

  5. For the record, when someone does *finally* figure this out and win, I expect someone - ANYONE - to post the questions, where they were located, how they were translated, and the answers. Those of us who gave up/ran out of time/are too far behind would love to know how the winner finally achieved the right answers!

  6. As much as I *love* decoding and hidden contests and crap like this, I just don't have the time to spend trying to solve it. (Have a yearly business trip next week and every spare moment is going towards preparing for it.)

However, here's a thought for you stalwarts. Could "KG" have any connections with the word "cagey?" As in "clever" or "mysterious?" Just a thought.

Not sure this is related...but has anyone else noticed that the main pitfall pic on the homepage has the score and time set exactly 20 digits difference? Most likely to commemorate the 20th anniversary of PitFall!

You mean where the numbers are 1982 - the year Pitfall was released - and 2002 - this year? Never noticed.

  8. And, with that, I'm satisfied and am done with this whole subject. I might be a little quick-tempered when it comes to defending the homebrewers and the homebrew community, as I have been the subject of such attacks myself (Venture II limited release anyone?). But, you're right, this should've stayed somewhat more civil at times. Apologizes for not keeping a more civil tongue at times.

And, as you were unaware that this whole subject was beaten soundly to death on these boards several months ago, it sounded like you were trying to throw gasoline on smouldering embers, which - as I see it now - was never your intention. Gotcha there.

But, rather than over-examine how this got so heated and blown horridly out of proportion, let's agree that - the next time anyone has a problem - they go to the person they have a problem *with* using private e-mails, rather than posting something potentially inflamatory in a publically world-read forum. In other words, rather than post "Billy Sucks" on RGVC, e-mail Billy privately, tell Billy he sucks, then explain why. If Billy still doesn't understand why exactly you feel that he sucks, THEN post it publically and let the masses decide.

That goes for everything and everyone reading this, and not just the main players in this thread and the one on RGVC.

    Agreed?

Here's a real intelligent response! In your mind, no one can believe in anything, so theft can be the only possible reason. I notice that you put the blatant insults somewhere you think I won't see them.

My response was posted a *week* ago, shortly before I posted to RGVC. It was a heated comment, granted, but I wasn't trying to "hide" it from you. As I said, this was posted long ago. If theft isn't (wasn't) your reason, fine. But trying to get others to take money out of a homebrewer's pocket because of your perceived "slight" rather than voicing your concerns openly and honestly didn't win you many points in my book.

Have a happy and healthy boycott.

  10. Matty, first you said you found it and posted a long message that appeared to be the "You won" message. Then you editted it and said you found it, but removed the info you found. Now your message says you can't say anything. What gives? If you won, great! Just let us know how you did it! No need to get secretive all of a sudden.

  11. Good detective work gang! I *knew* the "scorpion's tail* had something to do with it, but I couldn't figure out which scorpion Harry was referring to. (Since recondite means "obscure", I was *certain* that it was the scorpion on the 1st Tutankham map. Silly me.)

Here's what Thomas got for us:

    quote:

    going right: ZEFUWNT2WINTHPRIZE

    going left: THFRAMESUMSCRTNI

Toss the "ZE to the end (it's one big letter-loop) and you get:

    FUWNT2WINTHPRIZETHFRAMESUMSCRTNIZE

    -or-

"If you want to win the prize, the frames you (must/may) scrutinize."

So, who can freeze and examine the frames from other animated gifs on the site? (Especially the ones on the front page.)

Harry, I love the "Hidden Contests" in GAMES magazine, so thanks for this fun challenge!

  12. Normally, I'd do this myself, but I have no time. So, I'll toss this idea out to the folks here who have a passable art ability.

When I go to the video game store, I see the new Spider-Man movie games sitting in a row. PS2 version, Xbox version, Gamecube version. My quest is to design a Parker Brothers Atari 2600 Spider-Man label using the logo and box art from this new release. (I have a spare Spider-Man cart to paste it on and it'd be a cool conversation piece.)

If anyone wants to cobble it together, I'd appreciate it. Else, I'll do it myself later this week.
