Hey gang, Well, I got a letter from Fox TV threatening legal action for the Futurama video game I was going to produce for the CCAG meeting. There has been some speculation as to whether this letter is legit or not. Doesn't matter. I'm pulling the game and it will not be produced. I am working on a replacement game that will instead be released at CCAG. Thanks for those of you who voiced excitement and encouragment and sorry to disappoint those who were looking forward to this. Tim Snider "Snider-man"

I found the Pitfall III "discovery" thread on RGVC archieves. Read on: Pitfall III found! However, I can't seem to find the "confession" thread when the hoax was discovered...
-
Actually there was a great hoax a while back on "Pitfall 3: Harriet's Quest." I forget the details, but someone made a few "fake prototype" cases, then dumped them into thrift stores in his area, knowing that a collector would find it and come a-crowin'. Sure enough, the boards went a-fire with speculation and theories when it finally surfaced. Funny stuff. Who here knows the full story?

Try here: Retracting an eBay bid However, you better have a damn good reason. It'll ask and, if you just have "Buyer's Remorse," eBay might not let you cancel. Also, if it's under 12 hours left in the auction, your bid can't be retracted.

Let's see. It sold this weekend for $45. Today, it's worth $45. It may be worth more later (like Crazy Climber, Waterworld) or less (Pac-Man, Combat)- but for now it's $45.

I had heard that, because they didn't want to get stuck with extras, they were allowing folks to later pick up as many as they wanted. I hope this is just a rumor, but if not - prepare to see these plastered all over eBay in a few days. Hell, some guy on the DP Buying and Selling board already offered one up (of course, he also prompty got "the smackdown" handed to him).

I gave the AA guys all the info needed for a news item. They're a little busy, however, unwinding and unpacking from PhillyClassic. I'm sure you'll see something soon, though the website has all pertinent info. I posted the announcement to the DP message boards though, because they really don't have "regular news items" like relase announcements and such. Been working on the thing for a few months. Nice to finally be done with it. [ 04-28-2002: Message edited by: Snider-man ]

I'll bet cash-dollar-money that you'll see one or both of these protos released in production quantities at CGE this year. Especially Save the Whales. As I recall, John H. was the one who posted a screenshot earlier. Therefore, the DP guys have this on-hand. I hope I'm right. It would be entirely too cool to see these made.

Is there a pricing guide out ther or does no one want to ans
Snider-man replied to General Atarian's topic in Atari 2600
Digital Press It's the best in the biz. If you want one for free though, good luck and happy hunting. -
quote: As far as Pacman goes, as a beginning collector myself, I would expect $10 for a loose pacman, because of its popularity, and probably around $20 for a brand new one. A more obscure and less popular cart I expect would be around $5. Just the opposite. If it was popular and sold well, that means everybody picked one up when they came out. It was also a "pack-in" with the Atari at one point, increasing it's distribtion. Ergo, many years later (now), you can easily find them in the wild because of the oversaturation. Therefore, they're worth next to nothing. One the other hand, those games that were NOT popular did NOT sell well. Therefore, many years later (now), they're next to impossible to find, and they fetch a higher price. It's funny. Games that sucked back then are worth they're weight in gold today.

Beat me to it Thomas. I was trying to find these very threads when you posted. I won't fan these flames any higher. But I'd like to pose a simple question: How many of our collections hold "commercially released" Tawainese pirates? How about Panda releases? How about Froggo? Seems to me, if it's a hack from yesterday, it's wrong. If it's a hack from 20 years ago, it's a "collectable."

Check here for Thrust. It's $25 and worth every penny: Hozer Video Xype Section And for my second point: quote Boo-hoo. My heart bleeds for you. Because the homebrewer isn't willing to spend even THAT much more time assembling these things, you feel slighted. Well, I think it's unfair that no one will send me a round trip ticket to Paris. I've never see the Eifel Tower and it's unfair that only people in FRance have access to it. I find it unfair that some people have already seen the Spider-MAn film. What, I have to be famous or well-connected in the film community for a special preview? Hardly fair to those of us who aren't of the rich and beautiful Hollywood community. My point is, you're not going to get every new game that released at conventions or in limited release. Bitching about these facts makes it that much more unlikely that you'll ever see them. Using the "It ain't fair" arguement makes you sound like you're 7 years old and about to throw a tantrum. Sorry for hammering you, but we go through this every time a game is released in limited quanities and it's getting really old. If you want a "special release," get out there and buy one or ask the manufacturer if there's going to be a second run. If so, ask to be put on a list. Be polite, but accept the answers they give you with decorum. If there won't be a second run, shrug your shoulders and move on. You will never get everything you want due to circumstance and location. Deal with it.

See for yourself: Philly Classic info. Scroll down for list of homebrew releases.

Best you can probably hope for is that you buy one, get back in line, and hope they don't sell out before you get to the front of the line again. If they're selling more than one per customer, the first few dealers and vendors that get in line will snatch them all up and sell 'em on eBay or to us non-attending collectors for mucho dinero. What you'd like to do for those who can't make it is admirable....but highly unlikely. I'll be honestly surprised if you walk out with more than one.
-
Ugh, these "buy me a copy, buy me a copy" posts are beginning to wear thin. I'd bet cash money that it'll be a "one per customer" deal. Otherwise, the first 5 guys in line will buy them all then toss 'em up on eBay tommorrow. Secondly, if you think things are bad 'cause you can't get Bugs Bunny, you'll really crap yourself in August when CGE rolls around. Rumor has it there will be nearly *10* Atari 2600 releases there. I daresay you won't see anyone gettingmore than one there either.

Golf is a sissy game? Try my method. For every full beer you consume on-course, you get to take one stroke off your score at the end. A six-pack is a -6 at the end. On the 18th hole, everyone's pounding 'em down, trying to drink their way to victory. (Trouble is, the more you drink, the worse you golf, necessitating that much more beer.) And, if you still think video golf is wimpy, two words: Ninja Golf.

Ahem. Hey Cass? Don't forget our "arrangement." Wink - wink- nudge - nudge. Yours will be ready by month's end. "Snider-man" P.S. Say no more, say no more, know what I mean? Wink wink?

What's the rarest cart you ever found in the wild?
Snider-man replied to Bob Mackey's topic in Atari 2600
Panda Sea Hawk and Dice Puzzle Avalon Hill Shuttle Orbiter and London Blitz (twice!) Rubik's Cube Miner 2049er Vol. II Polaris Thunderground and lots of others but those are the ones that popped into my head. -
Stan, I gotta agree, My Golf is the best 2600 golf game there is. I don't know how you'd improve on it.

Well, I'm at work, my wife just called, the box came home. 1. The box had about 25 carts rather than the "100 carts" I was initially told. Since I really didn't expect 100 carts anyway, that wasn't disappointing. 2. My wife dutifully read off the cart names. Everything is OC (obnoxiously common) and I have everything already in my collection. The only highlights rare-wise were Lost Luggage, Space Caverns, and Pitfall II - and none of those are really super-rare. 3. One bright note, she described the joystick in the box and it sounds like a Tron joystick. I'll keep y'all posted.

Elevator Action is an 8K game, so Randy (Hozer) can't make it. That's also why you don't see Save Mary or some of the other, bigger ROM releases on his list. Your only hope for Elevator Action is to catch it on eBay. It *will* cost you $80-$100 though.
