What are your thoughts on things like this? Do you believe that the 256th screen of Pac Man can be completed? There seems to be some information out there to suggest its possible and the game would just start over after that screen.
Hmmmm....if you could play Pac-man in emulation and get to that point and save then you could practice playing through the garbled screen over and over, but I am sure the timing would be different, even if the pattern is the same. I'm sure it could be done with an insane level of committment. Morgan

Bwwaaahahhhahahaha! I guess I had never seen the X-Man box either...look at him protecting his junk as he runs away from the chomping teeth!!! Morgan

Granted, I don't get out much, but I had never seen the clamshell cases for the ITT games - very forward thinking, were they later releases around the time Disney was using the white clamshells for VHS? Morgan

I was interested in buying one Sears paddle joystick combination, but to push right for fire on 2600 wouldn't fit for me. No way. The normal Atari paddles work also on Commodore 64. I advise you to play Arkanoid!!!
See the post above yours; you have to have the "Y" connector and then the fire buttons work correctly. I played hours and hours of Tac-scan like this, no problem. Morgan

I don't see any reason to see this as a setup for a scam... I just really want to see a pic of the box to see what it looks like.
And I think this may be a lot of what people are responding to with skepticism. Most folks here would probably be like me (an attention whore) and post pics bragging as soon as they got this item. However some people don't think like me, thank god. Morgan

I admit it all sounds kind of funny, but holy crap guys, if there has not a problem with Topdog previously, wouldn't you feel like kind of a douche if you found out you were wrong??? If we take what he says at face value, he sold off Craigslist for too low a price and feels like an idiot. His later posts made it sound this way. If this was me and I messed up and lost that much on a deal, I would be sick to my stomach and probably would avoid even looking at this thread. So he may not even know what is being said now to respond. It is entirely possible that he realized he screwed up right away and feigned a sale in order to pull the items back and not lose $$$. I can understand a knee-jerk reaction like that; but still hope it wasn't the case. Hopefully he will be able to vindicate himself; not that he should have to, but at this point I think it would be the best thing to adress it and hopefully keep emotions in check. Morgan

I starred in Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em.
Is that a one player game HB?? Which reminds me; the girl at the center of the maze in X-man looks rather like a horse in some positions................ OH man, I just realized that NE146 will probably post to this thread now, and I will have to see his throbbing avatar. Morgan

Thanks Chuck! It's getting close, guess I better get my presale tickets so I can get in early!!! Morgan

Scrape off excess ink with your fingernail, then scrub the rest with rubbing alcohol.
The higher percentage alcohol it is, the better it works and the harder it is on the labels, so be careful. Morgan

How about "If you don't play Atari then SMOOSH you"
Or "Bleep You" to use Atari style sound FX. Or maybe "HSWWSH You" if Howard wouldn't be offended.... Morgan

Thanks for the warning. I'm not even going to check it out.
Looks like it's been replaced with a nice Christopher Hitchens Free Speech lecture

Joe, I love you, but I'm not sure what it really has to do with free speech. I think the OP just had a caveat; don't go there if you don't want to see the f-bomb. He didn't say it should be taken down. Free speech is your right to say it (though there are limitations; i.e. I am in Albert's house right now, so I don't want to disrespect him) it doesn't mean anyone will like it. But, if it is your domain, it's your rules and you can f-bomb away. Morgan

You go lucky. I paid $29.87 for just Atari 5200 Defender at Toys "R" Us in 02/03/1984. I still have the receipt if you want proof.
No, YOU got lucky. I paid about the same amount for Atari 2600 Defender in 1982 or so. Soooo disappointing. Morgan
That's worth more than my 29.87 given inflation. But you don't have a receipt to prove it.
Well, my point was that for the same $30-ish, you got a much better version of Defender. Morgan

Bump.
Bump so it shows as new so I remember to look when I get home. Wish there was a "mark as unread" option on here. Morgan

Homer you get a big +1......Do you have any of my wanted items?
Ummm, you forgot the +1, but I fixed it. Morgan

I think you bought them because they're shiny and they can move fast. Same reason Americans love Nascar.

Congrats on the pong. I love those things, and anything Tandy, well, that's right up my alley

Yeah, lately I have a fascination with things Tandy / Radio Shack and Sears; places I remember hanging out and gawking at things I couldn't have as a kid. Morgan

Not too bad but not as good as usual at that store. Morgan
And by the way, someone at this particular Goodwill has a grip on reality. Most games are 1.99 to 2.99 and sports games are almost always.69 or .99. All they had this trip was a stack of SNES sports games at .69.
-
On my way to a kick-ass Weird Al concert last night, I stopped at my favorite off-the-beaten-path Goodwill and spent $7 total for the following:
Enterprex Apollo 2001 - I know pong clones are a dime a dozen, but this is my first one, so I dig it. Very nice condition and complete in box - warranty card, manual, packing and all for $2.99
A Tandy version of Mattel LED football that I had not seen before - blue case - $1.99
A plastic bag filled with about half a quart of assorted shiny chrome ball bearings - $1.99 (why did I buy that?)
Not too bad but not as good as usual at that store. Morgan

An interesting thought; if someone were to actually pony up the $$$$$ to commission a set of molds, should it be an exact dupe of the classic 2600 shell or maybe something with a whole new look that would differentiate the homebrew releases or maybe just for AA? Just talking hypothetically, cause I have no $$$$$ to spare. Morgan

Just checked mine, both comics are exactly the same. Here's something you can dream about

Oh, I see, you are one of those zylons. Taunt me no more with your Sears-box. Morgan

I was waiting to play a Vectrex in the freeplay area at Cowlitz Gamers for Kids (retro show in Kelso, WA - look for it next spring - free plug!) and a punk standing there was saying to his friend on the game "looks like all the games are just lines, why didn't they use real graphics". Why he was even there I have no clue' looking for retro PS2 stuff maybe..... Morgan

Brown is probably my least favorite part of this generation. Painful lighting and vignetting are both fightinging for a close second.
it's worth linking a slightly older discussion that wandered over to the subject (link)
Also gives me a chance to recycle my illustration of the problem as I see it:
I thought the "sunglare" was kind of cool the first time I saw it in a racing game, but got old the second time. Maybe if they were to map a controller button to "sunglasses on / off"?? Morgan

I heard somewhere recently that home 3D printers are just around the corner. Meaning anyone can "print" (read: manufacture) a plastic product from a 3D CAD file at home. Of course, at first, they are going to be very expensive so early adopters will produce carts for others, but I'm sure eventually they'll be cheap and plentiful.
Like a $99 special for a 3D printer to create and expand the market for raw plastic goop. Sound familiar?

Anyway, if this happens soon, whatever worry there was about original common Atari carts disappearing will, uh, disappear.

I have seen this in action and it is Sweeeeeeeet!!! I took a tour through the Pelco factory in Fresno and got to see their R&D department. The "print head" deposits a liquid material that solidifies to a hard wax that is suitable for mold making. I got some info on the entry-level printer; it is about $50K. The finished product is not a plastic product, per se, but it does simplify testing of design and facilitates cheaper mold making. Morgan

Thanks for the links; there is a metric crap-ton of info there. Even if it is a little hard to view, it will help me a lot with my plug and play collecting. Morgan
