Just downloaded the new dashboard... not impressed
madmax2069 replied to JamesD's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
I sure wish that they gave us a option to choose between dashboards in the themes. I do not like this new dashboard at all. It seems rushed if you ask me. -
mirosoft brain washing? Trying to vent.

I stopped reading when i seen OVER PRICED WEB CAM, only if you knew. -
I have always loved Mario Kart and that will never change. Every system starting with the SNES had a Mario Kart (except for the Virtual Boy). And i hope they always make Mario Kart for each system. I will be all over this like flies on a dead horse.

thinking about getting into vintage apple/mac
madmax2069 replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
What i would do is get a IIgs because you get the best of both worlds (Apple II 8bit backwards compatibility). I would also get a Performa 475 (pizza box Mac) and find a full 68040 (has a FPU) CPU to replace the 68LC040 CPU (no FPU) that comes with it so that it can run software that requires a FPU (a few games require this), I could not be more happy with them. and just for extras i have a Beige G3 AIO for older PPC software (its rather big so the mini tower or desktop versions might be better for space limitations) . What later atari systems? ST and Falcon, never played either. You can have just as much fun with the IIgs as with any other system thats around its time frame, but you cant really compare a falcon to a IIgs because the falcon is in a higher class (way more powerful and capable), you could say the same thing about the ST as well. but i can't say you can have more fun on any one of the systems then the other because each person has different tastes and what they want to do or play. with the IIgs you do get a combination of systems, The 8bit apple II and its own library of software which adds up to quite a bit of games and programs to play and use. but this is just my 2 cents. -
Interesting Article on eBay's "Buy It New" Campaign
madmax2069 replied to Mendon's topic in Auction Central
From what i hear www.blujay.com is decent. a few people moved away from ebay to blujay. -
<p> Yeah, i would love to see you say the same thing once the HDD fails, Then what ?

That reminds me of my friend when he went to replace the PSU in his computer, he hooked up the power to the 3.5 floppy drive missing one of the pins (he shorted it out) and he powered it up (not knowing that he didn't connect the power to the drive properly) and wow the fireworks and smoke that came out of the PSU.
-
Yeah that would piss me off to no end, cant you show them proof of what you paid for and make them give you the proper version ?

Screen looks horrible, on my GBA SP. Is this normal?
madmax2069 replied to Ross PK's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't think so. The original DS is backlit, but it's not as bright as the DS Lite If it wasn't backlit, I would be able to play it outside without the light on, like a sp1, but that is not so. it's like the sp2, so I can't see it outside. (backlights are not good for roadtrips, IMO, its too bright in the cars for that.) Yeah the original DS is backlit, It only had on and off for the light and the brightness when it was on wasn't that great. It wasn't till the DS lite where they added 4 levels of brightness (i think level 2 was the same as the DS phat but i could be wrong) and will go brighter then what the original DS would go. -
Yeah i got my Rom3 IIgs with a 3.5" and 5.25" drive for around $40 a few years ago (not from ebay though). Been looking at Blujay.com and sometimes you can find stuff there for a lot cheaper then you can on ebay. sometimes you can luck out on craigslist. Just to compare with the ebay links above http://www.blujay.co...ywords=Apple+II and then a joystick http://www.blujay.co...ywords=Apple+II most of the times you can find stuff cheaper on blujay then you can on ebay

Because you pay for the service that they provide (aka bandwidth and so forth) and Xbox Live are not the ones that provide that service, Live does not use any resources at all for the above mentioned services. As with internet, you pay your ISP to use the bandwidth that they provide (using a bandwidth intensive service also might effect your bill because your using more bandwidth) As for xbox live, you should only have to pay for Gold for a service for what they provide as in online gaming, Zune (which is a Microsoft provided service), and maybe DLC (well not really because its set up to where they get a share of the price when you buy DLC). The way i see it, you should not be required to pay for Gold when MS does not provide resources for that service. And i am not talking about the pricing for Gold either, its the whole concept on requiring you to have a pay service to get accsess to a pay service that they do not provide resources for. get my drift now ?
-
Why did he remove all but one ? You would think that he would have removed all of them if they are bootleg, specially when called out.
-
It all requires Xbox LIVE Gold membership just to be able to use regardless if you have to pay for a separate service or not, which i always though was a crock of shit.

Nice, a //e and a duodisk. The only downside to the duodisk is that it can not be daisy chained and requires its own disk controller if for some reason you wanted to add more then two drives. But with a //e you do not really need more then two 5.25" drives anyway.

The best bet would be to buy 2 phoneNET adapters which can be had for cheap, I am not sure of the legality of downloading Appleshare 3.0 so i will not post to it.

I do hate a catch 22, You just might have to look for a online shop that sells the disks. and i have one for you that does. just go to http://resale.headgap.com/ and and click on enter store then go to software and scroll way down, they have Mac OS system 6.0.8 on HD 1.4 disks for $9.77. and further down they have system 6.0.8 on 800k disks for $12.77. this might be the only way to get out of the catch 22 you are in short of buying a real 68k. I have bought many things from them (pram batteries, software, and hardware). Good luck

Thanks - the page you linked has utilities that only work under System 7 - Stuffit 5.5 has some pretty big requirements also - seemed it need 8mb of RAM For some reason I cant open .bin files. I have Stuffit Lite 4 and Stuffit expander 4.0.1 - they handle .SEA, .HQX, and .SIT files - but not .bin I got Guantlet working though I didnt get too far with the Mac emulators - can they write information out to a floppy disk in PC mode? I think they can read from medium but dunno if they can write directly to the medium, i know that all of the files get put in a folder that you can take out and put on a disk yourself (but you have to watch out for the resource fork). Yeah i know that software is for system 7, the reason i pointed there is to run system 7 or greater in a emulator to work with the files instead of trying to work with them directly in windows (its a PITA to work with older Mac files in windows due to the resource fork getting screwed every time). I don't really mess around in 68k emulators due to the fact i have a Performa 475 to work with files like this. It might be a different story working in a emulator on a different platform then actual hardware.
-
Stuffit expander http://main.system7t...es/75x_68k.html will handle .bin files. and a .SEA should not require any extra software (self extracting archive) double clicking should extract everything , Did you try doing everything within a 68k emulator (running system 7 in Basilisk II or Mini vMac) for the PC and working from that ? you should be able to format a disk to 720kb which is able to be used in a Atari ST http://www.atari-for...pic.php?p=90731 and somehow copy the files to the disk and xfer the data piece by piece over to the Atari. I am just shooting in the dark here, never had a Atari ST nor the Spectre GCR. its been a while for me since i have messed around in the classic Mac OS so its sort of trial and error unless someone with prior experience in doing this.

Fixing a bent Apple //e keyboard...any suggestions?
madmax2069 replied to HuckleCat's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I had a old Mac that blew quite a few caps and left a lot of the dried fluid behind on the board, i used soapy water and a soft brush to clean the board off. after i was done cleaning off the board i used a can of compressed air to get rid of any standing water that was hiding under parts of the board then i let it sit for 3 days and sprayed it down again with the canned air. It seems weird at first with mixing water and electronics but if it has no power you do not have to worry about ruining anything, heck some people throw the board into the dishwasher and do it that way. I had the caps replaced ( i can not do it myself due to my hands not being stable), but afterward the machine worked like new Any UV bulbs will work if they are strong enough. a tanning bed might be overkill but should work, you would have to keep a constant check on the retrobright to make sure it doesn't dry out (some people use Saran Wrap to help keep it from drying out so fast) or you will run into the 'blooming' effect where the peroxide starts attacking the plastics. the more heat the light makes the faster it will dry out. -
Apple has a few bits of system software you can snag up, http://download.info...m/System_6.0.x/ dont know if its just the update or the system software itself, but i do know that they do have the install disk images of some versions. Sorry, but by itself there is no way that a standard PC floppy drive can write or generate a Mac 800k disk, the hardware of the drive itself makes it to where it can not. There are adapters that might make it to where you can read and write data in the Mac 800k format like http://www.kryoflux.com/, http://www.discferre...wiki/DiscFerret, http://www.icomp.de/home/indexe.htm, and maybe even http://www.shlock.co...op/OmniFlop.htm the above links is the only likely way of writing a Mac 800k disk on a PC drive short of buying a older Mac that has a superdrive in it.

Fixing a bent Apple //e keyboard...any suggestions?
madmax2069 replied to HuckleCat's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
The bent keyboard has made me wonder how many times the owner slammed his head on it to bend it that much. either that or something heavy was laying on it for a long period of time. Mine started with 2 things - The market collapse of the 8-bit computers, and the release of the //c Plus. I just saw the //c Plus as a big sign that Apple had no intention of enhancing the //GS anymore, and that their focus would be the Macintosh, which I just was not into. Yeah if only Apple would have continued developing the IIgs line, i would love to see how it would have evolved -
Easily Forza, I played GT5 and had to put the controller down and laugh, even after all the updates its still laughable. the first GT is the game that got me started really loving racing games. Its sad to see how miserable GT5 turned out to be. If a game is going to have a cockpit view you better make sure that every car has that view mode, i am sure that the bluray disk had plenty of storage on it to include one for every car, I am also sure that the bluray disk had enough storage left to also have all of the cars as premium, and the fact that a lot of the features that are on the back of the box are AWOL, and what the hell was they thinking with the car engine sounds, they are freaking horrid. 6 years and 60-70 million should have made a racing game that was out of this world, i would like to know what the hell happened because GT5 cant be the end results ???

Thanks! Yeah that's my other hobby. The D-104 is hooked up to a Heathkit DX-60 that I restored (the HG-10 VFO is next to it, near completed) it makes the DX-60 smoke on AM. I run it om 40 and 80 meters. Just to the right of 128D is the speaker to my Realistic DX-160 receiver, I use it with an old Heathkit DX-35 and VF1 VFO, nice little CW setup. I need to get a few picks of my updated radio shack\Commodore room here soon. I keep saying I'm going too, but then I go and change things around. Good thing is, My A2000 has a new HD and back working, I have the new 128D and only need to get the cable ran to get it on the BBS's. But no pics this weekend, last camping trip of the year and I need a nice bonfire and some Vodka! Just noticed your location, Kettering Oh. I live in Springfield Oh. We have probably talked to each other at sometime if you lived around in ohio at some point during when i was talking. i hanged around on channels 21(with blind angel before she died), 29, 32. i was always talking with Crazy (I knew when he was talking because he would bleed on every channel and plug my ears, always talking skip). I forget many of the normals handles, its been around 9+ years since i have touched any CB/Ham hardware. I would probably remember their handles if i heard them. I went by CT (had a old Siltronix and another old tube type ham, you just could not beat old tube radios, i mainly used a old Cobra mobile that was P&T by Crazy, i later had a crappy cobra 2010), my cousin went by bountyhunter (he used a cobra 2000). all i can say great times. Sorry about derailing your topic.

This is awesome, I have a Rom 3 IIgs and a (upgraded) Performa 475, also i have 1 phonenet adapter but that's all i have (need to get another adapter). This would be my answer to the whole not having software issue, i do have blank disks to use but The 3.5 drive in the P475 is on its last leg, it took me many tries to make a bootable GS/OS tool disk and a demo but it did eventually work, its worse off now.
