one would need 2 gamecubes, 2 games, 2 BBA, and 2 people that want to play. but one can try the xlink kai method. the BBA was for Internet or LAN (lan means local area network), the dialup modem was only for games that supported dialup internet access, the modem can not be used as a lan adapter. of course there are ways to get a dialup modem to go online with a broadband connection (see DC to PC dialup server http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=67554 ) but games that do not support the dialup modem are useless with it. and games that do will only use it for internet access. this is the only thing that i found info on that seemed like it used the second serial port http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube_accessories#ProDG

Eternal Darkness on GameCube - My Thoughts
madmax2069 replied to SlowCoder's topic in Modern Console Discussion
then there is the option of buying a replacement laser assembly http://www.eachgame.com/goods-1057.html (there are other sites that sell like new and new laser assemblies). buying another used Gamecube you could possibly run into another issue like this in a short time, then you will have two Gamecube systems that have this issue. its best just to replace the laser assembly so it would be like new. repairing the system would be the better option in the long run. -
I don't know why they make you stay connected, I assume its something underhanded seeing as how there is no good reason to require it. That said I don't really care too much. I would have to spend more then a buck on a soda, so spending a buck on a game is never really a problem for me. The good time my wife and I had laughing at Bird Assassin last night was worth a buck. Not to mention I would hope it helps up and coming developers and people with different ideas to cut their teeth. Its a form of DRM, i do not support anything that has this form of DRM. People should care, it does not matter if the game is $1.00 or $60.00, the more people buy this sort of stuff with this form of DRM the more they will keep pushing it onto us. I should not have to be connected on the net to play a single player game that i paid for. Its one of the many worst forms of DRM. I would gladly support Indie games if it wasn't for the stupid DRM Microsoft pushes on it.

now the BBA was included with a few bundles (i think the Homeland bundle was one). but the BBA was sold by itself in all other cases. there was always a blank filler cover that covered the port you connected a BBA to. and another blank that covered the port that the gameboy player connected to.
-
I think they could have sold it at a lower price. It was not as popular as it could have been if it did not cost as much as it did. i bet they could have sold a heck of a lot more and became a lot more popular if the price was comparable to another same spec computers (look at the IIe at $1395 in 1983 and C64 at $595 in 1982 and the C64 is a more capable machine).

I do not touch Indie Games after i learned that they all require a internet connection to play them. which is sad because there seems to be many of them that are really good.
-
It looks good, but does it play just as good as it looks, just about all of the newer versions of MK failed hard when it came down to the controls. because of that i moved onto other fighting games because they offer way better controls

I have a couple of them, including the shrek/shark's tale combo cart, which (I suspect) is the largest cart available for GBA. I was surprised as hell that both films fit on there in full. Quality isn't stellar, but it's better than one would expect. Very compressed video, noticeably low frame rate (I'd guess ~10 fps), but still watchable. It's about the same quality as the videos you could put on the 'GBA movie player' and 'supercard' accessories. When you put the cart into the gamecube 'gameboy player' they stop on the "not compatible with gameboy player" screen. There was a 3rd party version of that accessory, which I have not tried it on. Ahh, you are talking about the M3 adapter http://www.m3adapter.com/SLOT-2_Series.htm. I have a slot-2 M3 adapter (mini SD flash card version) but do not have the gamecube gameboy player, but i hear it works flawlessly on it.

So far i only know you can link 8 systems by a router, with 2 players per system so 16 in total. a router is the best way to connect even two systems together then just using a crossover cable because it takes longer to connect to each other when just using a cable.

So far i know that PSO (phantasy star online) is one of the games that can be played online using the BBA over a homebrew (reverse engineered) service http://www.schtserv.com/. and another place to check out is the gamecube section of http://www.onlineconsoles.com/ and looks at the online game list. If you ask me PSO is more then enough reason to buy a gamecube BBA, I have played Lan games on the gamecube, the performance is just as you would expect running on a home network (pretty much lagless) . but some games such as Mario Kart DD Lan multi player seemed like a afterthought. i have only played Mario Kart DD over lan so i could not say how the others are designed. (Mario Kart DD lan play) And you can even use a tunneling service such as Xlink Kai http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ with lan enabled games (using Mario Kart DD on xlink Kai) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al8mY-7NBbY. BUT (there always has to be a but) you have to live relatively close to the other person for it to play properly or this will happen (it does not work well over long distances) I hope this is enough info for you to decide.

Although the PS3 i play on i do not own but is in my house, i downloaded the demo and it played fine online, are you sure its not how your network is set up thats causing the issue, upnp could be disabled on your network, the hardware firewall could be causing issues, your NAT could be set to strict which will do the same thing, many people blame the game but its the users network causing most of the connection issues everyone sees (both on the PS3 and 360)..

Eternal Darkness on GameCube - My Thoughts

This game is quite good, as well as Resident evil 4 (which is probably the best survival horror games on the cube IMO). -
I feel sorry for Atari 8-bit vendors on Ebay
madmax2069 replied to qix_maniac's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I stopped buying on ebay when people started selling stuff for $0.99 and had shipping around $40+ (example for a stick of ram located in the same country i am in) to bypass the sellers fee. i can understand the high price if it was large and or heavy item. I can see the shipping being steep if the item was in another country. granted ebay is not what it use to be. I see many people fleeing to other online auction/selling sites (blujay comes to mind because its free) because of how ebay has became. -
Just picked up a free Xbox and some stuff..

So it's legal to ban people from single player games?
madmax2069 replied to davepesc's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Ah, I see Mendon's thread from a week ago! Well, it was new to me... Feel free to lock/merge/obliterate. Its always new to someone that does not know about it. -

http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/176138-thinking-about-getting-an-amiga/page__hl__amiga give that topic a look over. it might help you to decide what is best for your needs or wants. there are a few other Amiga topics like this one. a forum search will point you towards them.

So it's legal to ban people from single player games?
madmax2069 replied to davepesc's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Dude its never old news, mistakes can and do happen again. I would be pissed off to high heaven if i was somehow blocked from playing a offline single player game that i payed the so called license fee for. This guy just so happened to raise a public eye to it, no one knows if it has happened to others that did not say anything about it (which i can bet that it has happened to others). the thing is EA/bioware (or any other publisher/developer) should not have the ability/power to ban/block you from a single player offline game mode that you have paid for (its just a bad way to do business), now i can agree to them having power to ban or block you in multi player modes for cheating or causing trouble and disrupting online play, but this is not the same. I think most TOS could be challenged. mine is KOTORII, I and II are great games that i still play to this day. -
Damn, i don't own a PS3 but a friend does own one (in the same house) but he does not have any of the three games. oh well this is nice for any one that has a PS3 and any of the three games.

i think ive figured out todays average gamer....
madmax2069 replied to xg4bx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, this is now a reality. I just purchased Homefront for the 360 yesterday and, low and behold, it came with a code to unlock online multiplayer. It is a one time use code, so if you buy this game used at some point, be prepared to shell out the extra duckets for the online play! Oh well...it looks like all good things must at some point end. So much for the cheap deals at GameStop! If they are doing the online code crap as well they can stick the game where the sun doesn't shine. That is correct, that is if the buyer of the used game wants to pay for the code, if they don't you will see a drop in usage of the servers (which is whats going to happen in due time). -
+1 everyone that i know that bought DAII has taken it back the next day.

Do GameCube controllers suck?
madmax2069 replied to atari2600land's topic in Modern Console Discussion
i have large hands, yes the d pad is small but it does not cause me any discomfort. never had a issue with the size or layout. the only time i had issues with a GC controller was if it was 3rd party, or it was dirty inside. -

madmax2069 replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Modern Console Discussion
As do some models of Xbox 360 (the newer 4GB models anyways). I think cloud-computing devices like OnLive are the REAL future of video games. I'm not a fan of the concept myself, but I think it's pretty much inevitable. --Zero The Jasper 360 did as well -
Do GameCube controllers suck?
madmax2069 replied to atari2600land's topic in Modern Console Discussion
never had a issue with any of my 1st party GC controllers. yeah the D pad is a bit small but its very accurate. defiantly better then the xbox D-pad. maybe your controller is just gummed up and needs a little bit of cleaning. one of my controllers have been abused by the previous owner (not the same owner that i bought my cube from), it was given to me because i only had one controller at the time. but anyway its still just as accurate (after i cleaned it) as if it was new, but its market up badly. Just like with every controller that has a bit of mileage on it will eventually get weird to use and will need to be cleaned. that is unless its a 3rd party no name controller, those just tend to be junk. better to have a 1st party one. -
