Other good oldschool computers?
madmax2069 replied to lastkill3r's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I would opt for a IIgs at least so you can have the best of both worlds (play Apple II and GS games) that is if your looking for the gaming standpoint as far as Apple II goes. i use to own a TI-99 and a C64 and they have great games for them as well. i have never owned a Amiga or Atari computer so i cant comment on them, but just by watching youtube videos the games are really great looking. My friends father gave me a TRS-80 model II, i didnt really have much software except for word processing. i ended up selling it off to a friend that really wanted a old computer (this was like 15 years ago). now i really wish i would have kept it. I remember owning a VIC-20 and one of the COCO computers ( i think it was a COCO 3). i just cant remember the games i played on them. -
Thats good to know. i will pick that up.
-
I didn't know that. I'll have to think about that, thanks. it will get you around in a pinch but really isn't any better then some smartphone browsers, it will display youtube still i think, it will other flash video sites. post on forums (although you have a limit on how much you can post). like i said it will get you around in a pinch but its allot better on the computer. oh and its really buggy it locks up all the time making you reset the system.

Used games "destructive" to industry
madmax2069 replied to vrocko's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've done this before, several times. I've gotten tons of games that would have been $15-$20 off the shelf for $5-10, since it's more than GameStop would have offered them. I've also been kicked out of the store for doing this. FWIW, if the used game market wasn't as robust as it is, I almost certainly would never have bought a PS2, Xbox, or 360. I have never paid full retail for a single game for any of those consoles, and two of my PS2s were gimmes. My third (a slim, no less) was a $5 yard sale find. I have done this as well, the Gamestop store didn't offer the customer what he thought it was worth and i came up and asked of he would sell the items to me for something more then what Gamestop offered but still cheaper then what they would have sold it for. The Gamestop employees didn't care, they understood it really ( i know the workers anyway). -
All of them are going to fail one day or another.

Both of those are definitely awesome games. MGI, the guys who made Test Drive: Eve of Destruction have never made a bad game. I'd like to see what they have up their sleeves next. Hopefully it's not another Wii exclusive like Excite Truck or ExciteBots. You do not know how bad i want a test drive eve of destruction II on the new systems with online play, now that would rock. i wonder why they have not done it yet. i play that game to this day, mainly in split screen with my friends. I haven't played flatout II much because my xbox HDD died, and the 360 isn't compatible with it, I no longer own the first flatout due to someone stealing it, but i would guess that it to would not play on the 360. I guess even if its old PGR4 fills the gap for arcade racing (its always been a great series so far) but it has some sim elements in it as well so i guess you can call it borderline sim/arcade but more on the arcade, it use to be NFS as well before this game.
-
Its really what you are in to. look at the exclusive games each console has, find out which controller you like the best. do you want blue-ray or DVD (you can get the HD-DVD for the cheap and the movies next to nothing but the downfall is no new releases). online play is a bit better on xbox live then on PSN, but PSN is free for now and you have to pay $60 a year for live. You can buy a new old style 360 for $129-$149 plus you get the 3 year extended warranty for the RRoD and E74 error. each system has its pros and cons about them, you just have to dive in the info thats out on the net about each system. i myself like the 360 controller better then the PS1 dual shock/PS2/PS3 controller. ports of games are almost always better on the 360 then they are on the PS3 from what i have seen (from experience) and heard about around the net, mainly due to sloppy devs not knowing the PS3, but the exclusives are top notch (the 360 ones are as well). like what was said above you are going to run into PS3 fanboys that's going to say the PS3 is best, you will run into 360 fanbots saying that the 360 is best. then you will have people like us telling you that its up to you to decide on what you want in a game and a system and its functions.

No, it's definitely Burnout that is 'NFS Hot Pursuit themed'. Bah. Awesome!!!! I just got my "Criterion Elite" License in Burnout Paradise tonight, so I'm ready for a new arcade racer! -rick I ready don't understand how anyone can't love the burnout games?> the only thing i ever liked in burnout was crash mode. other then that the game sucked. i liked flatout a hell of a lot better. test drive eve of destruction was a heck of a lot better then burnout.
-
Actually that is exactly the way I look it. I am not losing any sleep over whether it will be playable in 25 or even 10 years. Hell, I have handhelds in a drawer from seven years ago that I might as well put in the trash. That's not to say I don't think the system will be playable in ten (or 25) years. I just don't care. To me handheld games are second-class video games to begin with. Thats the sad fact with many people today is that the just don't care when they should.

From Russia With Love Question
madmax2069 replied to thegamezmaster's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well it really boils down to controller preference, and how you like the gfx of the game. there are some subtle GFX differences between the three. the Gamecube version is a bit sharper then the ps2 but less then the xbox (less jaggies) but lacks reflections on the cars when you drive them. the PS2 version is less sharp and is a jag fest but has reflections on the cars. I can only imagine that the xbox has the best of both. the game play is identical other then the gfx differences. -
Can anyone help with suggested XBox network connections?
madmax2069 replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
I bought a USB extension cable so i could at least move the adapter around instead of the console. it could be something as simple as interference from something, or both that and location. hence why i bought the cable so i can move the adapter around. maybe he moved the router from where it was when you was getting a good connection ( a slight movement when having floors and walls to contend with can effect the signal greatly). he might want to look into a repeater (range extender) if he don't want to run the cables. then comes the question on how many people (devices) are using that connection. going wired on a normal router will only give you 4 maybe 5 wired devices unless you use a network hub/splitter on each cable from the router. -
Playing the demo (when it first dropped) confirms that i wont be buying this game, if i wanted to play burnout i will play burnout. no NFS game played like this (not even the old HP). I had real high hopes for this game but that got shattered by its game play (just a NFS labeled burnout game). I like flatout much better or test drive eve of destruction for its gameplay not burnout.

No, the move is the rip-off of the Wii remote, the Kinect is the one that's different (its way better if you ask me). as of right now only the games that require them are rip-offs (aka wii sports and such, a few do stand out from the rest though), that will change in time. its simple to get the 360 on the net (plug in a Ethernet cable into the back or buy the wifi adapter and configure it to be used). They wont spy on you, they just look to see what you have transmitted if you give them a reason to (aka if your being constantly reported for that sort of issue).

I just use a q-tip dipped in some rubbing alcohol (before i dip it i fluff up the end of the q-tip so it will go into the slots where the contacts are). just don't do it with the tip being too wet, damp is wet enough.

Have you tried deleting that messenger account from your 360 and re-adding it with the new password? We'll that is the problem, i only find a option to change my password or to change my account to a new email address. Where do i delete the old messenger account? It would be easier if ms would just give a popup box when logging in failed, where i can adjust the setting. i would get ahold of MS and tell them whats up, i am about to do the same.

Sony's plan for backwards compatibility?
madmax2069 replied to xg4bx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
My launch 60gb YLOD'd a couple months ago and Sony offered me two choices: a repair for $180 or an exchange for a 120gb Slim for $120. I had mine repaired by a local computer store and the deciding factor of why I did this was because Sony will only put a 90 day warranty on the repair or exchange and won't allow you to purchase an extended warranty since those are reserved exclusively for new systems. I didn't want to pay almost $200 for a repair and then 6 months later maybe find myself facing another YLOD and another $200 repair bill. I believe that if Sony repairs/refurbishes a system, they ought to stand behind that repair/refurbish and at the very least offer you the option to purchase an extended warranty. Mendon Geez only 90 days? I sent my 360 in when it red ringed a few months out of warranty (that's ONE red ring in 38 months) and they still sent me a replacement unit for free with a 1 year warranty and a free month of Xbox Live. Thats because a sony rarely dies, whereas a 360 is certainly going to fail again. the longer warranty was caused by the terrible product reliability. tell that to the people that own a slim PS3 that already got the YLoD, and to the people with phat PS3s that have had the YLoD, the old PS3s are starting to drop like flies. My friend is in that boat right now with his slim PS3. the PS3 is more reliable in the first few years then after that they start dropping. the 360 isn't as reliable in the first few years (if one makes it that far), its mainly the newer models that do. the 360 started to get allot more reliable when the falcon model came out, and it got allot better when the jasper model came out ( i own a jasper 360), so far 9 months strong. its to early to know anything about the new 360 (although it has had some issues with faulty power bricks). no it's not too early on Jasper, as I mentioned in another post I hand asset dispostion for a major retailer, they have told me that though improved alot the newer 360 still has a fairly high return rate. not from what i have seen around in the forums, because the forums would be showing that. i have seen posts about falcons and older models but very few posts about failing Jasper units (the ones i have seen are from user error or a screwed up software update, or the result of nature, as such as a lightning strike, a failing HDD). most users mistaken the RRoD with other error lights (its also easy to fake a RRoD, some just stumble onto it thinking they really have it, mainly due to a bad cable connection). a brownout can trigger a fake RRoD (showing the RRoD lights but its due to not enough power being supplied) i ran into this one when my UPS had a fit when a TV was turned on along with a tv that was already turned on when connected to the backup side along with the 360 which was also plugged into the backup side (one to many TVs on the backup side will do that). every single video i have seen that claims to be a RRoD with a jasper unit seems to be fake (or not a jasper unit). loose power cable connection, a jtagged 360 with the error code enabled, non RRoD error lights beveled by the user to be the real deal (like with a loose AV cable connection), or a fluke. as i say again its really to early to tell with the new 360 ( aka the slim 360), nowhere did i say its to early about the jasper. i bet there has been a few RRoD but due to the users ignorance in having it in a stuffed area what has hardly no air movement. My friend has a first gen 360 that still works today (the DVD drive had to be replaced) but other then that never overheated or no signs of a RRoD, his son currently has it and he owns the slim 360. its mainly because he knows how to take care of it, i learned from him on how to take care of a 360. there is things you do not do to these newer consoles or you will run into a thermal runaway which is the main cause of damage which can result in the RRoD down the road. -
Kinect Launch Day. Disturbingly slow?
madmax2069 replied to Paul Humbug's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
If this were really a major issue the Xbox forums would be inundated with people experiencing the issue. We know what it looks like when there is a mass hardware defect in a popular new product. For an example look at the Guitar Hero forums around the time their first drum kit was released. The forum was absolutely swamped with people complaining about the issue and confirming it. That is typically how these things go down. Looking at the Xbox forum I don't see anything of the sort. I see one thread from today that mentions the sort of issue you are linking to. Then looking over a couple of days I see a few people with actual hardware issues. I don't see anything beyond normal expectations. Big whoop that you link to an article that quotes 2 people. Then the second link you put is a link to the first post the first article quotes. I have stated a number of times I want Kinect to fail. But even wanting that outcome I don't feel the need to make crap up. If you work the job you claim to work then you are going to see broken merchandise on a disproportionate scale. I doubt that your company has access to any manufacturers numbers as far as production quantity, failure rates, or upcoming failure rates. A company that handles product disposal has no need for any of that information nor would a manufacturer want to provide it. All a disposal company needs to know is how to properly dispose of the stuff. I doubt that you are privy to any amazing insider information. You talk to a couple biased retail chain goons and think you have amazing insight into what is going on in the industry. Strangely though, the hardware that is largely failing turns out to always be MS hardware. Never any mention of dealing with PS3's that have YLOD or Wii's that eat discs. And, strangely enough, the great numbers of failing 360 Slims you reported never materialized in any reports from any actual reliable source. It really is fitting that the site you linked to is "Go Rumors" because that is all you ever come with. Your obsession with seeing the 360 fail is sad really. You might want to get used to the fact that MS is in this industry for the long haul though. The 360 has been a big success despite the hardware issues and it looks like MS is moving passed them... without you it would seem. so far the only issue that i have seen with the slim 360 is the first batched had a few faulty power bricks, and it would seem that MS promptly corrected the problem before it got out of hand. so far none of my friends that own a slim 360 has had no issues from the slim (first batch and current batch). with any electronic product you will always run into a chance of DOA hardware or faulty hardware that only lasts a few weeks, it does not matter who makes it (SONY, MS or Nintendo). when it concerns a fanboy the other platform will always have more issues, more returns, more failures and less games then their hardware. i see it they all have issues, all have returns, all have failures because i am not a fanboy, but a fan of gaming. -
Have you tried deleting that messenger account from your 360 and re-adding it with the new password? and where might that be. been trying to figure out how to reset the password to see if it solves my issue. before the update i used messenger a bit to talk with a few friends (when their other half was hogging the xbox for netflix) after the update i get a error when i try to log in. now when i try to log into xbox.com or msn.com it says that my account has temporary been blocked but yet i can still log in on those sites. msn messenger on my PC works just fine.

"Night of the Living Dead"Feature Film on 3 Jaguar CDs
madmax2069 replied to ovalbugmann's topic in Atari Jaguar
You could have at least done a little bit of leg work for yourself to find out if it was or not (might have taken around 2 minutes) instead of asking is it legal. to me its a tad bit rude and insulting toward the OP for posting something like this in a forum that is against piracy. The OP has been here long enough and has enough posts to know better then to post something illegal. I only hope that you understand this now. and all of this could have been avoided. Please refer back to post #25 for clarification this was already understood and acknowledged prior to you having now posted. i can still comment about your initial post. the main reason is because i somehow overlooked the post you realized you was in the wrong. post 25 is my post, do you mean post 16 ? My mistake - it was indeed post #16 I was referring to. *blushing* As for you now commenting, " realized was in the wrong", well I don't believe I ever said I was. I acknowledged in post #16 that I perhaps ought to have done the aforementioned research before making that initial post. However, the question asked in said initial post was a straightforward query and I'm glad that at least one other member here, thund3er, understood it that way too. I'm questioning your primary motive here, madmax2069. Your insistence on prolonging this discussion point (a point that had already been concluded) invites the suspicion that you're possibly more interested in causing unnecessary drama than in discussing ovalbugmann's fine achievement. You know what, just drop it. like i said in my post i somehow overlooked your post #16 and posted my post #25. -
So I picked up a MOVE yesterday...
madmax2069 replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Sony Playstation 3
I tried the move at my friends it just feels like a rehash of the Wii remote to me, i wasn't at all impressed with it. it was a tad bit more accurate then a wii remote but its just its to much like the Wii remote to be anything of interest (aka a slight update to something that has already been done). I was more blown away with the kinect on how great it worked, the games are a bit lack luster but i did have fun. joy ride was a blast, adventures was ok. my friends daughter loved the dace game. it seemed to be very accurate and responded very well to commands and how you was moving. -
The map with the mannequin's is called nuketown, its something like what the government set up to test the destructive power of a nuke back in the day.
