It sounds like the same issue with the Jag i have (cant find it now). a few said it was something to do with a part that deals with the power that was located on the mobo (cant remember what it was, some sort of chip), even if i did i can't find mine to even try to fix it. There could also be something wrong with the power connector on the system ( a broken solder contact or the conector itself). but the weird thing about mine is i put it up packed away in a box and it worked fine (the day i did). and when i took it out a few months later and hooked it up it would not power up. I tried cleaning the carts and ports, cleaning and inspecting the power connector, and testing the wall wart but it tested good, gave a visual inspection of the mobo and solder joints to see if there was any issues. so i was led to believe (from what i did to try to get it working) that it was something on the mobo that died while sitting, or as soon as it got a taste of power.

from the sounds of it the xboxs do not like the bridged routers (might not be a good enough signal/connection for them to play a game over, but good enough to get data from the computer). have you ever took all 3 and hooked them (wired) to a single router to see if it still has the issue. because if they do not, its either a setting on the xbox side or router side keeping them from doing system link games, or the xboxes just do not like the routers with ddwrt.

While it's off-topic, it nevertheless struck me, and I want to ask about that. As a matter of fact, I've got only one record. Okay, actually, it's two, but one album (Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds)... Why don't I have more? Well, I don't have a record player (at least not at the moment). Why do I have this one? Well, for once, it was a present, and furthermore, I've got personal reasons to think special about this album, and don't forget it's just plain awesome. Not being able to listen to the record itself (although I often listen to it in MP3 form), I hoewever thought I'd put it "on display" in my room, as the cover art is of course awesome as well. So it's now sitting on top of a small shelf, leaning at an angle against the wall. You say this could be bad for the discs? Awesome, Awesome album

yeah, you can find some good retro gear on craig's list, you would also be surprised in what you can find on freecycle as well.

Ah-ha, I'd seen those bits before but always wondered what the screws look like. I usually made mine from a flat head screw driver if i didn't have the bits or the proper tool available (or could not find them at the store or at home).

I have seen a few slim 360's have issues, a few have had DVD drives that wont read or act like they are having a hard time reading after you get back into the dashboard, and then the others are with the power brick (as shown in the video). The power issue can be resolved by getting a replacement power brick. But the DVD drive reading issue could be witht he drive or the 360's software or drives firmware or could be just a bad batch of DVD drives (which can happen to any device). So far none of my friends with the 360 S have had any issues. they have had issues with the older design 360. A few of my friends have PS3s and only two PS3s out of those friends have them have developed the YLoD, a few others have had drive issues (the BR drive don't accept nor eject the disks any more), and one has had Power supply issues. but so far none of my friends that have a Wii have had any issues out of them (and they are in constant use from their children).

zero since of humor, what ever dude. his form of humor is not funny in the slightest way, it just makes me sick to even hear about it. Considering his popularity it seems many would disagree HOWEVER I certainly would be the first to add FOR THE LOVE OF GOOD DO NOT attempt to do it in James or anybody else's "style" there are enough AVGN wanna-be's, 99% of whom SUCK, just do the research, be yourself and do it for the love of it period. I think that is what he plans to do (is be himself), As theUltimateAtarian put it "irreverent scatological humor" sort of points towards that. I am not really knocking James, i just do not care for his so called humor (being vulgar does not always make things funny). I like his depth in the reviews (that the only reason i watch his videos)you just have to wade through the crap to get to the good parts of the review. being angry off doesn't mean one has to be vulgar or cuss to be funny. Heck allot of the people i know also cant stand his so called humor either, but love the depth he goes into about the given review. All i have to say is opinions are like assholes, everyone has them. as i stated earlier Just as long as he provides the depth in the history and such with out James sick humor he should not have much to worry about.

it probably used more then the 68k though. at least not in the same since as running Doom on a 68k Mac (a Performa 475 as a example, which i do have)

I was going to get a CD32 because i could not find a reasonable A1200. but from reading this topic i will probably not get the CD32 and hope for a A1200.

I do not care for James Rolfe' "Angry Video Game Nerd" videos much because of the vulgar humor in the videos, but he does do a great job of going into depth (that is the only strong point in any of his videos)that most reviews lack. his depth in his reviews is the only reason i even watch them, if it wasn't for that i would stay clean away from that trash, as you say its irreverent. Just as long as you provide that depth in the history and such with out his sick humor you should not have much to worry about.

People used to do the same thing on the TRS-80 Model 1 from what I understand. I never personally saw it work. Using the cassette out worked better for games anyway so it was little more than a novelty. That was about the time the FCC cracked down and computers started coming out with everything shielded... marking the end to the radio music. interesting talking about the TRS-80 I did use to own a TRS-80 Model II (that was given to me) but i lacked the disks for it, i ended up having to sell it. i also owned a COCO as well.

Some other videos of old dinosaur computers... Showing how the front switches on the Altair were used and loading a demo. This is the most primitive form of the machine. An equivalent IMSAI, it looks much more professional and the larger switches are easier to use I have actually had to enter a program into a Harris mainframe from the same type of switches. It's not difficult, you just don't want to screw up setting switches or hit the wrong button... not very user friendly. It's actually much worse converting code to the bit (switch) settings. Hand assembling a program sucks. It was for a class btw. Oh, and the Harris uses octal rather than HEX. Eeewwww! An SWTPC run from a teletype machine rather than a terminal. I hope you have a lot of paper if you are going to tray this! I'd say it was a rare setup or something the owner threw together. The SWTPC actually has the bootstrap in ROM but with that interface you can't really tell it's easier to use. IMSAI with terminal loading and running BASIC like it would from paper tape except substituting a PC for the paper tape reader. A business might have this setup but a hobbyist would probably have something cheaper as a terminal if they went that route. IMSAI with video board and tape interfaces by Processor Technologies. Showing 4K BASIC on cassette. Patching a bug in a program with the built in monitor on a PROM board? Basically, this appears to be an IMSAI with S100 boards equivalent to a standard SOL. It's probably what most dealers were selling at the time the SOL was introduced. I'd guess the keyboards they sold had cases though. This one might be a hobby setup or something an engineer might have given the bare wires. You can see the steady progression towards friendlier computers and then the leap to the all in one design of the SOL. It's pretty obvious why sales of the other systems dropped once the SOL and Apple II were introduced. But still, the SOL is an Altair clone at heart. One of the personality modules listed on one site even ran CP/M so it could run Altair/IMSAI software. I wonder if that was aftermarket or from Processor Technologies since they seemed reluctant to license CP/M. A interesting little fact about these, they could also produce sound by sending radio wave interference to a AM radio near by (discovered by Steve Dompier back around 1976)

Ohh the Video Toaster for the Amiga (shown in the Alien versus Predator link). I have 2 of those games (Doom, and Power drive rally). sad though that my Jag died and now cant find it anywhere. I loved PDR because it reminded me of my favorite arcade APB (all points bulletin)well without the cops and drunk drivers and such (oh and the wheel).

Did you try cleaning the heads or are they a total loss (if you already tried), or is it a different issue. Because 9 times out of 10 its just dirty heads that causes the drive not to read, or the heads becoming misaligned after a while of use. another issue could be a slow spindle speed causing it not to read.
