Hardware dying in storage... ?
tsgthesportsgamer replied to monzamess's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've actually recently got my first 2600 (born in 82, so grew up mainly on NES, though some friends had Atari) and was shocked that it worked. The ebayer said it was in storage for years and they didn't test it. I figured for $40 and 50 games included, I'd go for it for at least the games, then go after another console if it didn't work. I'm amazed that this 30-year old machine was working and here's my SNES now going bad along with my original Game Boy (lines across the screen). Does anyone know if the Lynx has a comparable failure rate to older handhelds? I imagine it's tougher for handhelds to keep chugging on original parts. -
Hardware dying in storage... ?

I'm even happier now that I'm in the process of hooking up the majority of my old consoles to my sturdy ol' Trinitron so they can be played. This must affect NIB consoles then too...that's a scary thought... -

I suppose it's then similar to not starting a car for a long time, you can end up with a dead car on your hands... -
Help hooking up multiple consoles with RF adapters
tsgthesportsgamer replied to tsgthesportsgamer's topic in Hardware
Ahh, thanks, that answered a lot for me. And by linking, I did mean just hooking each on up together to the same antennae jack on the TV. I have three rf boxes linked up right now and I'd prefer to have them each plugged in separately to a box of course. Just would be easier to manage. -
Hey guys, New member here so excuse me if this is a newbie question or been asked before. I've long been a user of atariage, just never did get around to registering. Anyway, my Q. I'm in the process of really "attacking" my game room, i.e. getting everything connected and working properly. I've heard good things about RCA switch boxes, but haven't yet to purchase one. But what do you do with all the consoles that hook up via RF only? Do you just keep linking the RF units together? I'd prefer a switch box personally. I can't seem to find one unless I'm not calling it by the right name. Also, is there any danger in linking multiple RF units? Is there video conversion loss? What if, by chance, you turn two systems on at the same time that route through that RF linkage (and I guess as another Q, could you say, have one console set to channel 2 and one to channel 3)? Thanks for the help guys.

I did get a top-loader on the 'bay for $12 (with some $10-15 shipped, I can't remember). It came with the original box but two original NES controllers - which is odd. I don't care, always wanted the top loader and felt I got a good buy since those tend to sell for bit higher. My recommendation for ebay is to select the video game systems tab, then select the consoles you want to view (as well as ones not specified). You'll find a nice load of things for cheap that were either spelled odd or what not. I got a CD-I for 0.99 once because the user listed it as "Phipips Compact Disk Interactive". Only way I found it was through the category browser, same way I found my NES.

Hardware dying in storage... ?

I've had a similar frustrating problem with my SNES. I've recently been adding to my console collection for my game room. Well, I took out my old SNES, booted up Super Mario World, and bam, it boots up with glitchy graphics all over - you can hear the sound fine, but the screen is all messed up. I figured it was a dust/dirt issue (I've experienced similar stuff with the Genesis and dust), but I cleaned a few carts with a q-tip and even dug out my old SNES cleaning cart. None of it worked. It's frustrating to think I may need to shop for a replacement now, especially since the SNES is a tad bit pricey online compared to, say, the Genesis or even NES. -
SuperFly DX Collectors Edition now available

Sent mine too! Been looking forward to this one. -
It's sad, but the only Rayman I ever purchased was the Rayman Sega Saturn Sampler Demo (for $5 at EB, when they used to sell those things). I just wasn't as much into platforming then, I wanted polygons! Now I'm looking all over for a nice copy of Rayman for Jaguar at a reasonable price, go figure. At least I have that rare demo still!
