Ah man..... These are new underwear.
-
Perhaps this isn't anything new but in case it isn't if you hold the reset switch as you turn the console on..... Just kidding. What I'm actually writing about, and again maybe its nothing new but i found out that if you hold the reset switch while holding the select switch you can cycle through the game variations at double speed. Im gona try it with some other game and see if it also works.

Can Pitfall II be hacked to have extra levels like 5200 version?
Syntaxerror999 replied to Uzumaki's topic in Atari 2600
Harmony cart does great emulation of the DPC chip... with added features (DPC+). What about the melody boards? I like the idea of an add on cart. Kernal runs from the addon and bankswitches to the original. Perhaps other games could do this using a pluged in pitfall 2 cart just for its DPC chip. -
First off I must say I'm a big fan of James rolfe and while Atari reviews are few as there's not much to say, he has done some. One review he did that I disagreed with is Spiderman. Once you get the games mechanics down its a pretty fun game. I think half his issues came from the wireless controllers he used. Why Atari decided to make the thing hit all the buttons at once when no signal is received is beyond me, but they can relay mess your game up if the antenna dips too low.

Here's one no one mentioned... Asteroids. Is it a terrible game? No. It's just too easy. It has its merrits but the simple up down and lazily listing to the side movement just doesn't provide enough excitement to keep me playing longer than five minutes. I agree with pitfall II...its the unlimited lives that always irked me. I do disagree with Pitfall though. All Yars revenge needed was more than two levels but I wouldn't call it overrated. as for night driver...one word...unplayable

I had the same idea...reprogram the game to use the Atari ram for the stack and cartrage ram for storing the program and variables as well as showing the code 5 to 9 lines at a time. I had it written down at one time but I figured out how many blocks get used for what...very wastefull program. And contrary to belief the program is actually capable of storing as many lines of code as you want...or rather as many until all the blocks are used up... Of course you won't be able to see them... But I got up to about 90 lines each containing only a number incramenting by one and verifying by reading the stack. As for storage...forget who made it but someone made a program for dumping the Rom of a cart (using a swap trick) that supported a couple record methods via a homemade cable plunged into the right control port. I think it should be done not to be actually useful but because it hasn't been done. To show that Atari could of actually made something useful. I'll see if I can find the list and post it as well as the post for the copy cart.

Cute...oh BTW, I set fire to your house....Ha Ha!

Get yourself a project board from radio shack and make it via wire wrap. Their project boards look like bread boards but with metal pads on each hole to solder to.

Has their been any recorded success using the Sega rf on the Atari? Chances are the Atari rf signal isn't strong enough. I tried a NES adaptor once and had no luck getting it to work.

Out if curiosity (after reading the thread on TC hacks) how were most of these hacks sold....in stores? Mail order? And were the majority of the hacks pre or post market crash?

If you look carefully on the web page you will find a project file of the PCB that you load into the PCB drafting program pcbfree. Edit: further exploration in the site uncovered the schematic in PDF format (this ones for the NTCS version) http://longhornengineer.com/images/atarivideomods/design/Atari%202600%20Video%20Mod%20V2_2F.pdf Parts http://longhornengineer.com/images/atarivideomods/design/Part%20List%20V2.2F.xls Pcbfree files http://longhornengineer.com/images/atarivideomods/AtariVideoMods.zip Second edit: the audio portion of the mod is separate from the rest of the mod and only consists of a couple resistors and capacitors between the Tia and the RCA jacks...you should be able to substitute it for the audio portion of whatever mod you are currently using with no difficulty.
-
Stereo mods are pretty easy considering the Atari has two separate audio channels coming off the TIA. Longhorn engineering made an a/v mod that included stereo output. http://longhornengineer.com/projects/atari-av-mods/

Atari Inc. Business is fun impressions
Syntaxerror999 replied to Syntaxerror999's topic in Atari 2600
Do you have any more material on the ProVision prototype? Color photos or design specs? This console really caught my attenion. It's a putty it never went into production, but it wouldn't have sold well if it had. -
I have a copy of superman he can buy for $20...black text label

Who here has read it? I loved the book. It was a good read and I found it interesting to learn the truth about so many myths. I was disappointed that they didn't touch on the infamous swordquest debacle... But that'll be in the next book. Al Alcorn is my new Atari hero. It was a disheartened to learn the kind of person Nolan Bushnell was... Particularly in reguards to the patent for the tv ray gun conrtolling circuitry... he screwed is long time friend and didn't seem to care... Maybe it wasn't intentional, but that doesn't seem likely to me. I'll close with my favorite quote... "If you can't fix it, call it a feature.""

Controller cables: how long is too long?
Syntaxerror999 replied to Jeffreybomb's topic in Atari 2600
The paddle adjusts resistance to power being fed to a capacitor which alters how long it takes for the capacitor to charge and discharge. Magic gnomes living inside the atari use this to determine your position, so it is very possible long cables could effect this... Posibly making certain positions unreachable. One concern would be if the extra length may cause a higher than normal power draw along the Controler lines... But I can't comment on that with any authority. -
In which games something happens after 1.000.000 points?

For those hunting for a diagnostic cart..

Heres a question Ive always wanted to know.... The boxes on the left are supose to represent the data lines to the chips...and the ones on the right are labled nit used in the Feild Manual...do they serve any purpose at all (like for PAL consoles) or are they there cause of the way the atari draws (mirror) -
Awsome! I have these but I wanted the schematics for archive purposes.

Copy of the feild service manual for more detailed instructions in its use http://www.atariguide.com/pdfs/Atari_2600_VCS_Domestic_Field_Service_Manual.pdf

Has this site really been dead since May?!
Syntaxerror999 replied to godzillajoe's topic in Atari 2600
WOW! Impresive work. VCS astroids was ok, but lacked true arcade physics... and the vector hack just looked plain ugly. Considered doing a "Space Duel" mode where the rocks are replaced with the trippy objects in space duel?
