Syntaxerror999 replied to BioForceApe's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
No, you just take a bunch of LSD and see if the sounds color looks right. -
I looked up the PLD s model number and you still can find them.

Im not going to post the auction link cause the admins dont like that, but Ive been keeping an eye oj an ebay auction for a copy of Video life w/ manual for $5,000. Cart label is in pretty good shape too. But 5k? I know its extremely rare, but is there anybody out there that would actualy pay that?

All Atari 2600 models use the same adaptor, so it should be interchangable. If you L6 adaptor isnt working in the H6 then its probably the console. Usualy either the port or the power regulator (looks like a giant transistor with a heatsink) You should get a reading of 9v from the left pin (collector) and the middle pin (ground) and 5v between the middle pin and the right pin (emitter). If you do need to replace the adaptor, one thing to remember is the its positive polarity (+ comes from the tip). most devices now a days use negitive polarity. I dont own or ever have owned a clone system. I was wondering what they use for a TIA chip. Is it an atari part, or a clone itself?

Fixing up old Atari 2600s problem with joysticks
Syntaxerror999 replied to moycon's topic in Atari 2600
Been seeing this a lot... Its the hex buffer IC, the smallest one. Its soldered down so id remove it and put an IC socket in its place. Refer for more technical info... http://www.atariguide.com/pdfs/Atari_2600_VCS_Domestic_Field_Service_Manual.pdf Heres a thread about the same issue with pics of the successful repair. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/179201-odd-controllerboard-issue/page__view__getnewpost -

Asteroids: why 8Kb and then such a bad port?
Syntaxerror999 replied to highinfidelity's topic in Atari 2600
Doesnt early arcade games for mame have to be recreated due to the origionals being all hardware logic and no ROM programable CPU? On that subject, wasnt Midways "dont know the name but its Outlaw on the 2600" the first arcade game to use a programable processor? -
How about a Kickstarter project - Pitfall 3?
Syntaxerror999 replied to Byte Knight's topic in Atari 2600
BOOO! I must be one of the few people in the world that liked SP. Took me a year to beat. You wanna talk crappy pitfall game...how bout Myan Adventure... talk about a short game! -
Yes, but a name change is in order. Solid got the first star rights so he gets the classic name, the other version is made with modern techniques while solids is made with era appropriate tech so CRW should call his Star Castle EX, Advanced, 2, or something like that.

Off topic but I cant believe Ive gone though my whole life and never played nethack. Android ver is great once you customize the comand buttons.
-
You could mod it where both audio channels get merged then split into left and right. You wouldnt get the cool audio effect like in combat or pitfall 2, but games like kaboom would sound normal.
-
Gatefold style would have the earliest label but as for the other two...

Sega Genesis is the ONLY controller that will work?
Syntaxerror999 replied to ZachHarris's topic in Atari 2600
Cause when somethings broken, you dont want to fix it...you NEED to... It eats at your soul and taunts you! -
Could the Stellar Track or the Basic programing kernel be adapted to run a game like that? (NO I dont mean programing IN Basic P... That would be the shortest rouge ever) As for control scheme, you got 12 keys on a keypad, depending on how many different commands you plan on having thats at leats 12 commands there. Diff switches or the color switch yeilds another 12. Typed commands are right out unless you support the commavid.

Sega Genesis is the ONLY controller that will work?
Syntaxerror999 replied to ZachHarris's topic in Atari 2600
Oh, a few people with H6ers have been asking about fure button issues and the solution has usualy been to replace the hex buffer chip (smallest IC). Later models dont have a hex buffer. The fact the genesis controler works is realy odd. As with any if these kind of posts, refer to the field service guide for technical info. http://www.atariguide.com/pdfs/Atari_2600_VCS_Domestic_Field_Service_Manual.pdf -

Have you tried your joysticks again after you tried you genesis controler? Maybe a contact pin was dirty. -
I feel ya! I started collecting at about 13, I however gave my Atari to goodwill when I was 18 because I lost intrest in it. One of my greatest regrets of my life. Oh well.

Tool to help planning the 76 cycles
Syntaxerror999 replied to SvOlli's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Nice idea... yes such a program would be worth it. A nice option to include is branching for planning multiple paths the game program can take and maybe a source anylizer with a database of DASM/6502 commands, and how many clock cycles they take. -
While not a common, one that has eluded me was Codebreaker. When I used to collect games as a kid I found a copy at Goodwill and bought it even though I did not have a keyboard controler. The cart disapeared before I got to try it out... fell out of the bag... lost in the car... never did find it. Flash forward to the present, I try to get a copy and something always got in the way... lack of funds... e-bay seller misteriously disapearing (I have reason to believe the seller died before shipping). Well I FINALY got a copy, and I love it! Codebreaker is a game that doesn't get the credit it deserves.
