  1. I've attached version 0.6 to the first post. Most the changes are non-graphical. I've bumped the ROM size up to 16K, because there wasn't going to be enough space for the animations I plan to add. I will be adding card animations on the deal (suggested by Thomas Jentzsch), but it's going to require some refactoring. There is a lot of code that could be further optimized, but it may not be worth the effort.

The next priorities are going to making available moves more intuitive, adding game options, animations, and finishing polish.

    This update includes:

    • A patch for a betting bug found by Arenafoot
    • Sound effects
    • A few routines were optimized
    • Reorganized code for F6 bankswitching
    • Wrote a simplified sound driver for sound effects

    The bank layout is:

    • Bank 0 contains the title screen.
    • Bank 1 contains the game screen.
    • Bank 2 contains game logic.
    • Bank 3 contains the sound driver and sound data.

I had to add ballast code to get it to work on the Atari portable. I presume the portable was having trouble detecting the memory model. Thankfully, I had previously read a thread recommending it, so that saved a lot of debugging time.

Awesome!!! I love the sounds now! :lust: :lust:

There's still a glitch where once the dealer's hand is dealt, it immediately goes to the next hand and you can't see the cards that were dealt. The same thing happened during the broadcast of ZeroPage Homebrew.

  2. (Bump an old thread)

Is there any way of this getting completed?

Is Billy Eno a member of AtariAge forums?

RPS is fairly close to being done and I actually spoke to Billy Eno a few months ago about completing it. It's something he'd like to do, but real life (job, family, other hobbies) keeps him pretty busy. At this point I'm not sure when and if the game will be completed. I hope so, as it's a pretty amusing concept, the label is complete and even the manual is done.

  3. What emulator does this run on? I've tried EMU7800 and it doesn't work on that one, and the A7800 emulator doesn't work on my Win7 PC. Just wondering if there is any way to emulate this without real hardware.....

  4.

The average user probably tried Super Breakout (not even knowing the game really needs paddles). What AtGames should have done was include a SD card with all the paddle games when you purchased the paddles.

Anyway that's sad the girl did not even know you could add roms via the SD card. Anyway I picked up 3 .. 99 cent 2GB SD cards at Gamestop and mentioned I needed them for AFB9 and Legends consoles. The geeky kid working there knew about the AFB 9 and said they are great for old school Atari games. He said he bought one for his Dad and he included a bunch of games on .99 SD Card. He said his dad loved it... his mother not so much :)

I bought several off Gamestop.com. If anyone got a portable and wants to buy one - PM me. I'll undercut the guy who's selling my work on eBay!

I can totally understand how casual buyers would be underwhelmed in buying the AFPortable. I'll be honest - it took a little time to warm up to. There are definitely issues that need to be considered, IE: the D-Pad response. DigDug, PacMan, etc., are practically useless with the character going whatever direction other than what's pressed. Other games seem to not matter. I don't get why, and I know there's been a lot of discussion about it. I've even tried FireSlayer's 3-D printed version, but it really wasn't much better, though it did help a bit.

Also, are the traces to the AV output wrong? I have audio on yellow and video on red on my composite... And the RF interference is huge. LOTS of noise.

I did get mine for $15. I'd buy a few more for $15. But $40 is crazy high for a product of this quality.

I agree, its a great buy at $15, but $40+ (currently $75 on QVC w/ A/V cable and headphones) is way too high. I'm hoping this Christmas, we will have a better handheld available.

  5. So I believe this game's gotten some renewed interest due to it's nomination for best Atari 2600 homebrew of 2018. As a part of the occasion, I've recorded a new commentary for the game. While I still think that it's a decent effort for one of my first games, be warned that I am rather critical of it.

(In the video) When you talk and the game sounds, the game sound cuts off what you are saying. Especially when you're talking about the Retron 77.

  6. Just a stupid question. Lack of Atari 8bit computer demos is by design in the nominee list (it looks its VCS/2600 only)? Or because lack of good productions for 8-bit computers this year? If the latter - I would argue a bit... :)

EDIT: never mind, just read small letters :) 2600 Homebrew. So perfectly fine with me, crawling back to my cave :P

First year trials..... bigger and better next year!! ;) ;)

  7. I know you all been waiting to hear the 2019 Harmony Games.

I've been thinking about either using the nominations or wait for the winners are announced for Atari Games.

    what do you guys think?

Good idea!! and then towards the end of the year maybe some potential "2019 Homebrew Awards" show homebrew games then.....

  8. I made a lot of changes in an attempt to finish: (Don't try the one player game, you can't fire for some reason)

The ball no longer escapes the playfield when its angry

There is an intro sequence instead the jumbotron cycling through endlessly

The prizes and ball mood are triggered by you now instead of just cycling through

There is rudimentary gameplay- serving, scoring, sound, an end (just goes to static for now at 5000 points). Racquetball style volleying (the ball has to hit the back wall before you can hit it).

Missiles are now fired by you, and hitting the other player has effect

I tried it on both the Harmony Encore and the UNO cart and both have the issues you stated above.

  9. What material is that? Maybe you could engrave the winner's name. Though there is little space left.

Revision has pretty similar awards. But also often without names. And not Atari shaped of course:

    x750_y423_5c181d_12.jpg

I think it's acrylic, It's seriously the best looking trophie I've ever seen, I was gonna suggest engraving the winner upside down and mirrored underneath, but there's actually quite alot of space left if you look closely, not expecting James to do that, but it could be done by the reciever, I like the abstract look myself.

yes it is...... Clear acrylic with laser etched writing, 4" x 3" x .75"

  10. This is kind of what the playfield and sprites look like right now. I have 2 cars, a cart, bag boy, and a customer.

I was having a bit of an issue getting life counters or a status bar in the DPC+ and have to figure out how to organize things in banks but I like this direction.

Can't wait for that updated ROM!!

  11. Updated with some missing info!!

  12.

While I'm honored to see ChaoticGrill nominated, it would have been nice to get a mention as the graphics artist for this game as I made all of the bonus item and character animation sprites. Oh well, I didn't do it for the glory; I did it because I wanted the game to be awesome.

    PM sent!
