Very cool. I was just wondering if anything had been update since the latest version. Also, by reviewed I meant a physical review of the 2018 unit. I know there are lots for the 2016 and 2017 models, but haven't seen any for the 2018 model yet. I am sure it is (most likely) just like the 2016 and 2017 models, but opinions always vary.
Oh - I haven't seen any reviews on the 2018 model, but Bill said its the same Firecore emulator built in, so no changes there.
As far as an update on my ROM pack from Dec. 6, 2017, the only change was "Miner1979er" was able to edit the file names of my ROM pack to move the ".bin" off of the AFP screen so it looks better - that's all.

I too was wondering what the latest binary available on this was? The latest I have found does not have the great background music, the save iniitials, or the AtariVox sounds. Of course, the later might be an issue with having the AtariVox+ and not the original.
Try this download: http://www.herbs64.plus.com/files/mgd.bin

Does anyone know how the 2018 FB portable works with the existing ROM pack available here? I would imagine so, but just thought I would ask. Also, will the ROM pack get updated/reviewed soon? Just wondering as I am strongly considering getting a FB portable and loading it up with ROMs as my PSP plays some 2600 games well, but others not so much. At least for me anyway. Thanks!
From what Bill told me is this year AFP model uses still the same emulator so my ROM should still work.
"reviewed"? - I'm not sure what you're asking here. As far as an update, its already at 1001 working ROMs out of a possible 1030 ROMs (no matter the size of your SD card), unless you use multiple SD cards like I do, then I could make another. There's not many others that work on the AFP that I didn't include already. The next file might be another 40 or so games total.

I haven't even gotten over 5,000 chips.
I may have to increase the player's chips to support up to 8 digits if you keep winning.
I'm going go figure something out with a move indicator. I'm thinking of having a joystick icon show the available moves.
Go big or go home! so in another words.....bet big! and win big!!

ZeroPageHomebrew’s hosts reaction to questioning “why username nanochess” in chat when I said, “He wrote chess.”: Priceless
(I meant - “wrote a tiny chess playing program”, but they didn’t put it together. As in, “nanochess He wrote chess? Nano means tiny, a tiny chess program?)
I was too vague, I was allowing nanochess to answer their inquiry about his username.
When no more replies and they didn’t understand me I enjoyed their confusion.
It was chat! I couldn’t think to clarify what I meant, and was allowing nanochess to reply (I am not an annoying chat hog know it all, althought it may appear I play one on the Internet.)
Its just like I've been asked about "Arenafoot" and someone thought I was a foot doctor! LOL

However.. I already made a folder for the test ROMs for this game, and it's named ChaoticGrill. So if the name gets changed (and it should not) I would need to rename the folder. And really really don't wanna hafta do that.
Same here!!

A fellow Atari book writer, Michael D. Salzman, has a Patreon page and he is sending two trading cards this month per patron (for this month only), along with early access to his monthly "Unauthorized Atari 2600 Throw Back Zine", early notification of his book giveaways on Amazon, access to select homebrew Atari 2600 games that Michael creates, and participation in polls and other fan feedback opportunities. All for the $2 level too!
This month.... Pole Position and Jungle Hunt cards are only $2!

WOW 2018/19 is shaping up to be an amazing home brew year! This is absolutely incredible! I can't believe it is only a "demo" 5 polished with a title screen and music is more than I ever expect from anything on the 2600. This is an instant purchase for me when it releases. This is simply amazing work!
That is the main reason why I (and James O'Brien) wanted to start "The Atari Awards" at the end of the year!

Concur with the others, it's a well made product. If you bought it from Atari Age, you'll get a replacement I'm sure. If you bought it from ebay or something "unofficial" they may have sold you a broken item.
Came directly from Fred.

Did you even ask for a replacement before bashing the whole product this way?
BTW: Many people seem not to know how to remove a spring loaded MicroSD cart correctly. Instead of pushing, they pull the cart and easily break the tiny mechanics of the slot.
I've used SD cards for over a decade now. I know they push in and push out with a click. This one never did click right out of the package! I have tried several other SD cards in it thinking that it might be the card with no difference. For the price charged I expected better quality- that's all. Very disappointed and as I said cannot recommend to my readers.
Countless other people never had any issues with the "click" mechanism even after years of daily use.

That said, if he broke it by yanking the SD card instead of pressing down, then it isn't a warranty issue, it's user negligence. Perhaps read the manual next time!

Protip: Most broken stuff can be jury-rigged to make it work again. Masking tape over the card end will keep it from ejecting.

I wish I would have gotten "years of daily use" out of this, then I wouldn't be so aggravated. After years of reading online how great these are and then finally getting the money to buy one and it not performing as stated, I can understand the price drop now.

Got my Harmony Encore cart and spent the last two hours putting ROMs on an SD card for it...... and its broken! The SD card will not stay inside of it - it pops out everytime. Now out $73 and can not recommend this product!!

I got my Harmony Encore quick, so if others are wondering if it's safe to order the answer is simply YES!
I got to play some Zippy on the encore yesterday, but was wondering if there are other Encore only games or demos?
Just ordered the Encore last saturday too and wondering the same..............

- Tax Avoiders - this seems to be, coincidentally enough, one of those tax write offs, but did it actually hit shelves?
This was the last title I bought back in the day from Lionel PlayWorld on clearance for $4.99, so yes it was in stores back then.

As my other project - Tyre Trax - is nearly done, I've been working a bit on another idea I had, and would like to share.
SpaceBank (working title, may change it later..)
At it's heart, SpaceBank is a reaction shooter and will probably end up being a bit of an adaptation / tribute to Sega's Bank Panic, while also drawing some inspiration from the Gremlin Graphics game for the ZX Spectrum, C64 and AmstradCPC called "West Bank". (More info here).
I figured the 2600 could probably pull this off and my idea is to use my Track and Field controller for the game (which means joystick would also be just fine).,
Concept will be the same similar to WestBank / Bank Panic, just with a different setting. I've made the setting in Space simply because I find it much easier to draw "things" (aliens, robots etc) than drawing Cowboys and robbers
Inspiration also drawn from PacMan Red's sprites in the free sprites thread (if like me you are not good at drawing graphics, you can learn a lot in that thread).Concept :
You are the custodian of the SpaceBank, somewhere deep in the Outer Rim, light years from civilization.
Miners, prospectors, traders etc, will bring their deposits to your bank as it's the only one within 20 light years.
Your job is to protect the innocent customers and their deposits.
Beware, Rob-Bots, Trick-Bots and other unsavory types who will try to steal the deposits.
Some ideas around powerups.
Playing :
Nothing to play right now, but I've added a couple of screenshots to give you an idea of the direction, i'll share more as things develop including playable binaries in due course. Right now I'm building the game engine, getting doors to work, getting the game loop set etc.
Not sure whether I'll do the whole 12 window thing of Bank Panic/ West Bank or make an adaptation there (need to work within my Bb skill level!)
Plan will be to have 3 or 4 difficulty levels. Every few rounds you will have a showdown / shootout with a boss or trio of badguys for bonus points, then back to the level cycle.
Shoot an innocent = lose a life
Shoot someone who hasn't drawn a weapon = lose a life (law of the
wildwestOuter-Rim)Trick-Bots = shoot the boxes, last box might have a deposit, a bonus or maybe a bomb, shoot the bomb - bad things happen..
Controls :
Right now this is not set in stone, but I as I said, would love to use my Track and Field controller to control firing at the three doors as it has three buttons. Joystick would work equally well (left = shoot left door, right shoot right door, up or fire to shoot the middle door. If I go the "12 window" route, I may have to re-think that a bit.
ToDo and features will follow, but I'm going to have AtariVox support from the ground up now that I understand better how I should implement it (for scoresaving - Thanks KarlG!).
Comments and suggestions welcome as always!
any playable ROM yet?

Should be easy to do. Difficulty switch or something swaps between poodle and amoeba graphics...

Thats what I was thinking........... don't know if Dionoid will do it.
-
V201j added to first post.
Some small changes to the bike in how it is animated up and down and on acceleration.
I won't be doing any more significant updates until my Harmony arrives and I can test on real hardware to squish the remaining over-cycle issues.
Feedback and comments as always are appreciated.
I just ordered my Harmony Encore last night too!!
-
Yeah the gameplay was really good and addicting. Though I preferred the poodle graphic, the amoeba one is equally good. I will be looking forward to it, not trying to crap on the op's thread or nothing. I did buy Balloon Trip...

Yeah I second that! Love the poodle!!! Need to leave him in the game....someway

Has anyone got Mappy working on the Atari Flashback Portables or the RetroN 77? Please let me know.
- Danny
Yeah, its a no-go on the AFP.
I know that it won't work on the Flashback Portable because ARM-assisted games don't run on it.
-
lol nice. Yeah there was a "Poodle Jump" game in development here somewhere...
yeah here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/279963-its-poodle-jump/
