We did indeed have a homebrew week just 6 weeks ago and lasted 3 weeks covering 3 homebrew games, which is precisely what prompted me to do the video review of Ms. Galactopus. Unfortunately, not a single mention of the awards competition, not a link, or anything. A blown opportunity... but one that I will personally make sure doesn't happen next year. This awards event is the best thing ever, and I would love to see it become even more successful notwithstanding the fact that I have no affiliation with it, any developers, or even AtariAge other than being a member.

I'm on board! Just ask me whatever you need!

Im interested in what tools, templates or tips and tricks people are using to create homebrew game manuals these days. Thinking about creating a full colour manual for Bass Fishing Tournament but a little unsure how to tackle this.

    • Are people creating their own art work for the manual/box art covers or out sourcing?
    • Is there any common tools used or just programs like photoshop?
    • Is it best to use a template like original Activision/Atari manuals from back in the day?
    • Do those who create them have a professional background in art or advertising?
    • Should i just scrap that idea due to lack of experience and write up a plain text doc?

Any help on how to tackle this would be much appreciated as im not the greatest artist and have no real idea in this field.

I'm in the same situation with my homebrew game Mardi Gras. After asking these same questions around the internet/homebrew community, Ross Adkin the programmer of my game, was able to layout the game manual design with the info I wrote and compiled. I'm still in the editing phase of the manual currently.

I'd still like to know if any of these items above are somewhere online too.

Chess missed the list for 2019 WIP?

Hello, I haven't been on the forums for a while so I just saw this, to clarify :

CRT The Chromatic was the only actual Atari 2600 game I finished in 2019 and seems to be missing from the list.

Stake Toss and Pixel Ninja Pit Jumper are not active WIPs, I was just getting myself familiar with the software

Not a big deal but I'm not using RTs suggested code for FP numbers in the Atax-Atax WIP so it remains a solo project, However I did use code provided by Karl G in CRT so credit is due to him 🙂

I was just looking at that today and wondering why my username was on it.

The call for any missing games from the list was put out on Dec 2, 2019 and last night at midnight PST the process for nominations was closed, so unfortunately it's too late for any additional entries that were missed. I tried to do a search for both 'Chess' and 'CRT The Chromatic' on both Google and AtariAge's search engine but I was not able to find anything.

If you are able to supply links to information about both of the games I'm sure that @Arenafoot would love to add them to his massive list of homebrews!

    I found Chess:  https://atariage.com/forums/topic/299157-new-chess-display/?do=findComment&comment=4429883

and added to my "List"! Thanks! (no ROM released in 2019 though Andrew?)

I can't find CRT The Chromatic....... do you have a link to that thread Sknarp? nevermind found it using a different method:

    adding to my List! Thanks!

I for one think this is awesome and raises awareness for the various other games on each cartridge.  I am guilty of plugging in the first setting and starting and it wasn't until recently I learned that Asteroids had teleportation AND shields! Lol

The actually amount of hacking done to the original game is quite minimal. By far all of the work is in writing the new menu screen, and writing the two way interface between the original game and the menu screen. The amount of work is quite extensive as each game is different requiring a different approach.

I think this is an awesome idea! We need more of them hacked with menus.... Asteroids as KevKelley stated above would be a good one to add! Berzerk, Combat, Defender, and Human Cannonball would be my requests for future menu hacks!

Well, I still don't have my beloved MacBook and therefore the source for the demo back, but the fix for the leveling crash was a one-bite change, so I was able to edit the demo ROM in a hex editor to fix it. Demo 2 is now up, and the only change is a fix for the leveling crash.

FYI - updated ROM on first post needs date changed to 2020 not 2019 ;-)

I have this pretty much finished now the way I want it .  I hope someone will enjoy it .

I just missed getting it done in 2019 :(

    1VS1 Baseball instructions.txt 1.87 kB · 25 downloads

    some suggestions from last night:

add extra innings when a tie at the end of 9th

car horn/alarm goes off when foul ball is hit WAY out of the field (extreme left or right)

bigger infield when in overhead view - it doesn't seem proportional to the outfield that is 3 times bigger

    left hand/right hand batter option?

runners locations on the gamescreen instead of toggle switch

    Awesome game Edward!

    Very kind words 🙏.

Same goes for hockey I think maybe champ games has a hockey in the works maybe?

Yes they have one in the works, but you could still do your version. Doesn't have to be 6 on 6.... Activision's is 2 on 2. Would be nice to have 3 periods instead of only 3 mins! Maybe team color choices, time outs (pause with TV type switch?), etc.

  9. I can see it now, Edward is going to start his own programming company.... "EASports 2600" :rolling::rolling: (Edward A. Smith Sports 2600) - with previous released titles: Kung Fu Combat, 1vs1 Basketball, Pro Golf, Pro Bowling, Beer Pong, and now Pro Tennis!

I want to request from EASports 2600:

    Ice Hockey

    Curling

    Arena (Indoor) Football

    Pro NFL Football

    College Football

    CFL Football

    Darts

    Ping Pong

    Raquetball/Handball

Ones that probably would not need improvements would be BMX Master, Boxing, RS Volleyball, Karate, Bass Fishing Tournament, Billiards/Trick Shot, Horse Racing/Steeplechase, etc.
