  1.

I do wish the 32-bit version played the soundtrack during the races like the Sega CD version does. I don't mind the cardboard graphics though, the 16-bit version still has them, just a lot less of them, and at lower resolution and colors.

I don't mind the 16-bit version, but I really like the 32-bit one. I usually play the Windows version, since the framerate is super smooth, even though some of the graphics aren't as good (the sky/backgrounds are different, and the shadows aren't translucent).

I popped the Sega CD version in last night, wasn't too impressed. I guess it runs a little smoother than the Genesis version, but barely. And on top of that, you have all the 32bit elements shoehorned in to a system that can't do the "art" justice. I'll stick with the 3DO version.

  2. Just got a FZ-1 in the post today. Diggin' it, but was wondering if, playing on a 27' CRT, its worth upgrading to S-video over standard composite? Would there be that much of a noticeable increase in quality?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

    YES

  3. If you're balking at $30 for an adapter, I don't see how re-buying each console, controller, and an everdrive is any more palatable for you.

I really have no problem with the Classic Pro controller... have you tried it?

Original hard drives & flash carts are great, but that's a lot of dough & even more to make them look decent on an LCD.

  4. For all the hand-wringing over this stuff, I personally use a Model 2 or Nomad 99% of the time. The Model 1 has great sound, but you can't get stereo out of the back of an unmodded Model 1, and I find that the headphone jack is prone to very loud popping on power on/off. The Nomad has excellent sound quality, and while the Model 2 sound quality is definitely subpar, if I use a 32X with my Model 2 the image quality is terrific (since the Model 2 sends RGB to the 32X, which has a superior composite encoder).

Pretty sure the 32x pulls stereo sound through the cartridge port of a Model 1, bypassing yer complaints. Also improves video, as you stated.

  5. You're not messing with European PAL carts, right? The only difference between a US cart and a JPN cart is the plastic shell. THAT is the region lock out issue. Your converter is wacky and fairly unnecessary.

But what could break inside? Cheap wires, bad solder joints.

  6. Nintendo is selling the Wii U deluxe Nintendoland bundle, refurbished, for $200 shipped on their online store.....

that seems like a good price point, but does anyone have any experience with refurbished Nintendo products? Should I expect them to be as nice as the refurbished Apple stuff?

Any differences between this bundle and some of the more current (like the Mario Kart 8, or Mario/Luigi) bundles or consoles?

and would I do better trading in my Wii console, a bunch of games, and other goodies at Gamestop and just getting a new one?

$200 isn't just a good price point; it is the price point. ;-)

I bought my Wii U as a Nintendo refurb at the start of June, and it looked brand new. Not a scratch or fingerprint (that's now changed, oh well). You'd never tell if it weren't for the different box it comes in. NintendoLand even comes in a sealed retail case. I recommend the deluxe refurb package if you're looking to pick one up.

    Comes like so:
