  1. It has happened before, and will happen again. If moribund Atari can go after little old Vector Tanks for misuse of their trademarks, Hyperkin is far from immune. See also SLAPP for examples from all different kinds of places. Nintendo has clearly thought about this issues and has legal muscle.

Vector Tanks is a different issue entirely.

If you read that Nintendo link, you'll see that they already view your Retron as an illegal game-copying device, and opening it up to play random ROM dumps doesn't change that very much.

  2. Yes, but if the R5 had built in backdoor ROM loading via SD, Nintendo would come and try to shut them down.

On what grounds? How would it be different than an AtGames Firecore or a Dingoo? I think the days are gone where you could shut down an emulator just for being an emulator.

The loading of random ROM dumps probably just isn't in their plan for the device.

As somebody who owns the consoles, carts, proper TV, ROMs of questionable origin & who is in no way part of the target market of this thing, it's kinda fun to sit back and watch their attempt at bringing XBOX One-style phone-home always-on methods to something as old as NES carts . It's bizarre! And to think people laughed at the n-gage.

  3. Im still on the fence about getting one. I hate my Wii system. Hate it, mainly due to graphics. Its only draw is the virtual console. Yes the U solves the graphics issue, but the costs is too high - for me, for just that. If it were 50 to 100 cheaper i would be "more sold".

I don't know, $200 has always been a good price point for me...

  4. Not sure if I will be there this year, but knowing an AA member will be giving a presentation helps a bit.

I know last year was their first attempt, but it was pretty disappointing for the price... little more than a vendors hall with sellers you could totally patronize the other 364 days of the year.

  5. it was a safty warning sega packaged with the 32x I cant find it right now, put I wouldnt change messing up cdx, its not like they are cheap 5o gamble with

Right, it's because they didn't get the FCC approval and so were not approved to state that it works 100% just fine. But it does anyways. See how that's a sticker? The manual makes mention of a CDX adapter.

  6. So four of the games I ordered came in today and lo and behold, Starblade does not work. The 3DO spits the disc out as soon as it tries to read it. Upon closer inspection, there are no less than seven pinholes and scratches through the silver layer in the disc. Not for nothing, but if you're an ebay seller that deals in pretty old games and you offer old CD games for sale, the least you can do is hold the disc up to a light before you ship it and check if the data is destroyed or not. It was described as "recently tested and works perfectly" in the listing. Liars. I'm not ordering from these guys again. I'm hoping I can work it out with them. I've never left negative feedback on anyone before and I hope I won't have to now. I wrote them at noon today and no reply yet. I'm just ticked because there is no reason for this. If I was a seller, I'd check any disc before I shipped it and if I see any marks, assume it's ruined and refund the buyer or better yet, not list it in the first place. Save the buyer and seller some hassle. Sorry for the rant. I was at the bar watching the world cup match and I'm still a little buzzed :)

Understandable; I'd be pissed (both kinds) too. There's the old warranty of implied merchantability that says that an item for sale, unless otherwise stated, can be expected to work. But if they specifically stated "tested and working", then it's refund time. Hopefully they'll play nice (this time around) and you won't have to leave negative feedback.

Bummer, because that one's pretty good on the 3DO.

  7. They had an adapter ad I my 32x for a cdx adapter, but they never made it because some tests they 32x was over heating the cdx.

I don't know what you're trying to say but I'm pretty sure it's incorrect. There is no overheat risk that I'm aware of, and I've certainly never encountered it.

  8. Yeah, check these out and tell me if you think the Genesis can handle 3d. No additional chips required (I'm looking at you, superfx chip).

Which makes me want to ask, did the Genesis or NES & SNES have any wireframe 3D games?

Don't know about full games, but Ranger X on the Genesis had wireframe animations between stages. I think Elite on NES was all wireframe (because it's Elite).

  9. I never used it this way often, but I sometimes put comedies on the SD card of my original Wii and would watch them. With the Wii U supporting hard drives, wondering if there's a way to get it to play media files stored on the drive?

I only got a Wii U last week, but I believe you can hack the Wii U's software-based Wii mode similarly to an actual (old) Wii. Then I assume you would be able to install one of the media players available & play your videos.

edit: Of course, since it'd be in Wii mode, it would be 480p at best.

  10. @Rex: I am not misremembering PS2 for Dreamcast... I am looking at the stack of discs now... I have hundreds, same goes for PS2 but those are elsewhere...

let's just hold the phone for a minute... FAT32 on and SD/SDHC card only holds just under 1GB... so... if a game is exactly 1GB or more it will NOT fit

You can determine how many GB are used by looking at a stack of discs? Impressive! Still, I promise you that no DC game is 4GB.

Also, FAT32 is completely capable of holding a 1.2GB file.

    Hey you made front page!
