  1. I dunno, are we talking about a theoretical universe in which the Sega CDX / Multi-Mega never existed? If we're talking standard history here, there ya go. Most beautiful console ever.
  2. When I decided to start collecting VCS stuff, I did some research & found that a 7800 suited me best. Plays 2600 and 7800 carts, and damn simple to mod for composite video output. Those tend to come with a dozen games or so if you're buying off eBay like I did. From there, I just bought a few lots that consisted mainly of specific carts I was hunting for. I did have to buy a few single carts, both from eBay and locally, which doesn't tend to be cost-effective but sometimes is the only way to get that ONE cart you're after. Now I've got about 100 carts, and I'm not really looking to expand my collection much further... there are only a handful of games I'm still looking to get. Hope this helps you somewhat.
  3. Man, I always felt that the NES game was the superior game. If you don't want to do any exploring, just run back and forth in the first area of the NES game. Ta-da, it's the arcade game!
  4. It IS a hell of a port. I'd only played the NES version, and briefly, but I got this cart in a mystery lot and I was surprised too. It plays great and the graphics are extremely crisp for not being one of Activision's.
  5. Beamrider Frostbite Demons to Diamonds Mountain King and since it's a 7800, some Dig Dug and Robotron, too
  6. Yeah, I've played it. It's another "walk the maze and touch the all the _____s to clear the level" game. What was the goal of pac-man again? Wander the maze and touch all the dots? Pretty similar.
  7. Awww... I've always loved the three-button, but mainly for nostalgia value I guess. Sometimes you just need a good third-party three-button, though. I found one with neon 90's buttons and d-pad and it's awesome (and rad). But yeah, I've tried a few SMS pads and I just can't make myself use them. They aren't appropriate for any type of game.
  8. Maybe... people don't want to pay $40 to play Pooyan. That's my two cents, but they're from 1981 and worth significantly less now thanks to inflation.
  9. I guess I'm the only one who was disappointed by the 360's audio visualizer, but to me it just looked like some translucent polygons spinning around each other. I've seen dozens of WMP, Winamp, XBMC visualizers do the same and they didn't impress me either.
  10. Yeah, I had fun with that little game. Pretty neat twist on pac-man.
  11. Okay, I had to address this. No, 'touching the thing' will not necessarily kill your 7800. Takes up time? Everything does. If you're playing an atari and posting about it online, you have time. Brightness issues, if you have them, can be fixed easily and are a matter of taste anyways. Not everybody has problems. Many 7800s ARE exactly the same. Also, many mods are the same. Mixed results from mixed TVs are to be expected to some degree. And I've never seen a surround sound received with RF inputs, though I'm sure yours is pretty rad.
  12. Hah... I thought this was going to be about Actiplaque. Kinda looks like somebody took a "P" on the labels.
  13. Was there a Donkey Kong port compatible with the XEGS? If so, that'd be the one. I never owned a "classic" atari system until just this year, but my cousins had an XEGS back in the 80's that started me pestering my parents for a game system.
  14. Yeah, I'm not too concerned about the eventual disappearance of one of the most-hated game controllers ever. Like somebody else here said, I'll just use something better. I already do with most consoles that I own.
  15. Judging by that photo... I'd say it's a connector. Can't say more based on that.
  16. Hmm, how long did it take to rack that up?
  17. He said revamped, not reinvigorated... it was a complete revamp & gamer memory doesn't figure into that. Now I've never played the jaguar port of Doom, but the two games really are too different to compare this way. One is Doom... the other is Doom 64. It'd be like asking how Super Mario Bros 3 "holds up against" Super Mario Galaxy. They're both great, they're both different games too.
  18. Nope... it'd be Sonic 4! This is looking GREAT, though. The art & ideas are already up there with the master system game.
  19. That's the word. Apparently systems that were designed for these switchboxes output some extra voltage along with the video signal to "throw" the switch; systems like the 7800 designed for direct connections don't give this extra voltage and won't "switch" the switchbox.
  20. I've got two 7800s and a 46" LCD TV. When I used their standard RF signal, I'd hook them up with some nice RG-6 coax cable and they looked pretty nice, very little interference. Modded both for composite video and they're about as sharp as playing the same games emulated on my Wii and its component connection. One has snow on the upper third of the screen for some reason, but that's a fault of the specific console or my soldering.
  21. I've lost the link, but there was one website where a guy explained how to repair 2600 paddles. Only I didn't trust him for a second, because the thought the purpose of the rosin core in the solder was to "smell good".
  22. Is your cart slot cracked, maybe? I have two 7800s, and the one with a cracked cart guide expands enough to fit any cart, while the other simply can't hold some carts without them launching back out.
  23. Just modify your 7800's slot. BTW, I've seen plenty of complaints about 2600 cart slots not fitting specific carts, many times on the 7800 forum when people bring up the 7800's own slot.
