I keep mine in the large official carrying case w/ about 8 games... at the bottom of a large plastic tub full of unused video game stuff, somewhere in my closet.

What operating systems are going to be supported ?
Windows (from 98 to 7) and Linux.
In what ways is it different from a "real" cartridge ?
The main difference is that the bus is only 16-bit wide instead of 32, and that the read accesses are 5 cycles instead of 10 -- the same as the Skunkboard. The EEPROM for saves works just like the one in commercial cartridges. The header (from $800000 to $801FFF) is not available, as it is used for the PC communication code ; the MEMCON setup value is also different to account for the different bus width and read cycle length.
Will 64-bit versions of those operating systems be supported? And what do those differences from a "real" cartridge mean to non-technical people like myself, who just want to try out a few otherwise unplayable games on a real jaguar?

Just set out the 7800, it's not that big. Now as for the mess of paddles & other controllers, you're on your own.
-
Left is B (Basic), Right is A (Advanced). Games don't necessarily hold to those conventions though.

Any chance that these fit in an EA cart case? Would be a perfect use of a Shaq Fu shell.

Yeah, the Ninja Gaiden one is probably the most creative piece.

I would've tried swapping that brightness-controlling resistor if I were having brightness issues, but I didn't have the best results with that mod myself. Be glad you didn't remove & discard the RF modulator I guess.

Found a solution to tide me over until I have time to mod the 7800! I was out running errands when I saw a Goodwill store and went Hmmmm..... Stopped in and found a nice 15" RCA for $15. Picture looks good and I'm sure it'll look better once I have time to adjust it. No remote though, so adjusting it via the menu panel is a minor pain.
Foot and a half cord, fifteen dollars, goodwill? Something doesn't add up. Glad it looks good, though. I had really good results using a fat tv coax cable (RG-6) with an adapter. It honestly looked as good as, if not better than, my composite-modded 7800s.
If you do mod it for composite, don't do anything irreversible...

... dull, plodding, and repetetive to the extreme. Am I playing it wrong???

*calls the Atari police*
"Yeah, we've got an Atari dissenter...."
I still have a bunch of lame-o looking Activision carts to try, still. The worst I've played have been Freeway, Sky Jinks, Ghostbusters, Dragster, and Skiing. Skiing's alright, but DAMN it's just so slow. I picked it up thinking it'd be remotely like Ski Free for Windows 3.1. It only looks the same.

Have you tried replacing that one resistor (R11 I think?) with a 100k potentiometer & adjusting the brightness? Not sure if it's R11, but it's discussed in that topic.

Publicity pics of people using laptops on beds when all that would happen is it would block the air intake vent on the underside and overheat the thing.
Now now, that IS how the majority of laptops in the world are treated.

It's up.

Beamrider's probably my favorite 2600 game out of 'em all, followed by:
Frostbite
Robot Tank
H.E.R.O.
Kaboom!
Chopper Command
Funny, I never got into Seaquest or that one-dimensional Freeway. All the love here for Spider Fighter and Megamania make me think I should check those two out, though.
Did ANYBODY like Oink! or Skiing?

That's pretty bitchin'.
I wish I understood it

Anyone else notice that almost all the rare games seem to suck? Why is that?
How do you think they became rare?

Hot damn, good ideas. I can't believe that I used to search for "nintindo" and "palystation", I've seen coleco & intellivision carts sold as "atari", but haven't thought to search coleco, intellivision, and junk like "atare" for Atari carts. Shows how new I am to collecting these...

That it does - I played it using the GB-XC1 at CGE and it was one of the factors in my deciding to get a 7800.
Yeah, I usually play Robotron 7800 on my Wii using the classic controller since I don't have a better way to play it on the real deal.
Through a homebrew emulator of some kind, or have they released it as a virtual console game? Either way, I'd like to give that a shot, sounds good. I play it on my 7800 with a sega genesis gamepad in my left hand & my right on a genesis arcade stick. I do love me some 7800 Robotron though, damn. Such a good version.

The point of hooking it up to a monitor is to view the game being played... surely composite video could be added easily if it's not already supported.
-
Absolutely will not work. Probably would on a PS3, though.

There are far, far too many carts that've been stored next to the lawnmower & are full of grass clippings. And please, please, nobody tell me how those wirey.... body hairs.... get into the carts.

You plugged a long cord into your TV's antenna jack and are surprised that it receives a signal...

Simple mathematics.
Back in the day, when word got around that Games by Apollo and Data Age were mostly crap, inventory at stores ceased to sell. Now, that mainly means less copies in the general population, but I have to wonder what happened to all the copies that were returned to the manufacturers. If there is a secret warehouse somewhere, then the value of some of the "rare" titles will one day go down.
Probably the same as what Target does with returned cosmetics, old books, broken electronics that the manufacturer won't take back, etc... thrown into the industrial garbage compactor & turned into a nifty brick of crap.

Play some damn Dig Dug! And what plans do you have for that poor, innocent RF modulator?

Highest percentage of butchered game names in one ad!
