And now for something completely different.. I found out from a reliable source that the TIA is exactly the same in any variation of 2600 and 7800. Apparently the 7800 is rather chip sensitive and a TIA that works in one may not work in another. I can't imagine why nor do I want to rip out all of my TIA's to find out which one I could replace it with. Now I am stuck with an expansion slot 7800 and no TIA to put in it.

The 1541 is the same every time. This problem started when I began using this drive BTW. I would say that the power in my house is true (??). I am kind of ignorant toward the subject. This seems to be happening only in combo w/ the 1541.

Killed another C64 console tonight. Worked fine for a while. Plugged the 1541 in and the console died after about 10 minutes. This time it was in a completely different outlet. WHAT IN THE BLOODY HELL IS GOING ON!!!???

HEY!!! How rare is 007? -
I remember renting 2600 games in the early eighties. NES games were available to rent everywhere in Eastern Ontario back in the late eighties/early nineties. Alot of games now found in thrifts and flea markets are left over stock from the NES rental days. Most places that survived that time now rent PS2, Gamecube, and XBox disks.

I guess that all I was trying to find out was if it is common for C64's to go that often because I have seen 3 do it to me in a short period of time. The PS's that I have work and that seems to be proven. Every other system I have never does this and I am doubtful that my freezer killed my C64. I have been using it on that outlet for weeks with no problems and now all of a sudden the thing blows on me. I got it out of a trade from a good trader and it worked when I got it. BTW - Those old C64's that I have are just going to sit there until I find one that works. I will likely keep them for scraps. I am totally new to the Commodore machines and I am not impressed so far. The games look pretty cool though. I mainly wanted one to expand my library of games.

I'd trade with you if you weren't so far away. It's nothing personal. Good luck.. that's a nice collection you have there man!! -
I visited my local thrift today to pick up another C64 and guess what... They had one!! It didn't work though. Black screen. Damned C64's!!!!!
-
- EDIT - I am going to turf them if I can't fix them. Why?? Yes. It occured to me as I was sitting there staring at the white noise on my TV and then the freezer came on. I am lucky I haven't lost anything else on that outlet as I connect all of my games to it. ****Let that be a lesson to all you slow kids out there!!**** According to the laws of nature, a man's meat is more important than his antique electronics collection.

This happened mid game. Just all of a sudden like. I think my freezer might have turned on and zapped my system. It's just a theory. I have never blew any other consoles on this outlet. It was just her time to go. I only got the damned thing a month ago. Time to hit the thrifts.
-
Well.. uh.. FUCK NO!!!! I may be Canadian but I am not that bloody twit headed. Come on now man. I think the darned thing is a dud that just blew cause it was her time. I could have had too many plugs in one outlet. I was running like six appliances (a freezer, stereo, cordless phone, TV, 1541, console) off of a power bar. I have breakers and they would have blown first. I'll have to go check the water fall behind the igloo to see if the turbines froze up again.

Today I found a 1541 w/ PS and plugged it into my perfectly fine C64 model C. It worked for 10 minutes and then the screen went blurry. I was playing Panther when all of a sudden the screen went all blurry like there was a power surge or something. I tried a different PS and it powered up but would not give me a flashing cursor at the ready screen and cart games played all crooked and strange tuned. That's what I did.
-
Everytime I find one, they work for five or ten minutes and then they blow on me? Is this supposed to happen? I have gone through three consoles in a month in a half now.
-
I have never heard of that. The thing is, as alot of us already know, these types of controllers are great for any system that will take them so that is why I use them. Many people prefer joy pads over joy sticks. I wonder if there are any C64 compatible joy pads. I am sure I could use my 7800 pads and they probably wouldn't cause any problems.

I finally tested my C64 Gyruss (cart version) with two Genesis pads playing two player mode and sure enough - F7 does not work for pausing the game. As soon as I put regular one buttoned controllers in, the games was able to pause. I have no explanation for this occurance. How many other C64 games do this??
-
No.... I play Gyruss with my Genesis pad and all is fine with F7. Strange but spam.

I have no doubt that there is indeed some of those floating around here as well as quite a few other rarities but I have yet to figure out the best way to advertise that I am looking for them (short of putting an ad in the paper). As for Video 61, I am not really too sure how to interpret the answers they are giving me regarding their version of this cart. It seems too easy to just order it from them if this cart is as rare as people are saying here. If I had the choice between an EPROM repro or a masked ROM image, I would rather the latter and I don't want to not ask about it before buying something from them.
-
Does anyone know if this Mr. Do!'s Castle is the same one that is being offered by Video 61 (which is a repro) or if this is a legitimate limited run of this cart. Video 61 tells me that they offer a repro of a prototype that they bought straight from Atari some time ago. I asked if the version they sold was the factory sealed mass produced version and they say that they have never seen a retailed boxed version.

Super Cross Force cartridge by Spectravideo
birdie3 replied to flicky's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hehehe.. OK. I was just trying to be helpful. Sorry about that. I obviously have no idea what I am talking about. Just try what I recommended for A8 carts that seem dead because they might not be. Once again, sorry for the wrong information. -

Keep trying. Both of my XE's have trouble with some carts. They have to be fiddled with for them to be seated properly in the cart slot. Try putting it in and then moving it to the left or the right a bit before you turn your unit on. -
Yes. It (pause) works on my C64 perfectly. There is also a two player mode as well as a reset feature. Does it not work on your system?

I think the games that keep score in a vs. mode (ie: Sky Diver, Artillery Duel, Pong, California Games, Kaboom etc..) are best because they are the most competitive and they end with one winner and one can naturally gain some skill from practice. More importantly, the simpler the better in most cases. Games that repeat over and over and just basically get harder and harder with no ending are monotonous and kind of pointless (ie: Missle Command, Tron Deadly Disks, Mario Bros. etc..). Head to head where there will always be one winner will always be the best. Two player 2600 games are the most fun. It is quite obvious that this system was not designed for one player only although some games are fun like Pitfall II, Frogger, and Secret Quest. Sorry if your favorite game was bashed.
