Thanks for the response. I will re-seat everything to see if this fixes it. How would one know whether the problem is caused by a bad MARIA or one of the two 6116's?

What is this? Is there a ROM I can try out?

WOW!!!! This is simply amazing. Thank you sir!!

Anybody?

I am attempting to trouble shoot a problem with my socketed 7800 motherboard and I am not sure which chip is which. Can anyone assist me with identifying all of the chips on the motherboard? Thanks in advance.

Calling all 7800 hardware experts!! Hopefully someone can straighten this out for me once and for all. Here is the situation:
I bought a 1984 version of a 7800 a few years back in a thrift. The console would work OK but quite often I would have to switch it on and off 5 or 6 times to get it to work and sometimes it would not work properly at all. It did however always display some sort of image being either distorted or perfect.
If I could describe what happened when it didn't work properly I would say that I would get a video image but the image would usually be garbled, "wavy", and it would skip the Atari intro screen. After a few posts here at AA, I decided to act upon a suggestion and exchanged the TIA to see if this would do anything. Unfortunately it did not. I eventually used the 7800's TIA in a light sixer to see if it was in fact the TIA and learned that the 7800's TIA worked fine.
For what ever reason, I cannot find the TIA I extracted from the 7800 and now have a 7800 mobo without a TIA. I have inserted a TIA from another 2600 to see if the console fires up and it still appears to be doing the same thing as before.
What is happening here and how can this be fixed? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Is SIC really out of print now? I would love to get one of those.

Is this the XE version that has been hacked or is it the unreleased early eighties version?

The essence of what Bushnell is saying is that he would prefer to see people engaging in video gaming as a peaceful and constructive socio-cultural gathering as opposed to casting their souls away to a commercialized carnal frenzy of hopelessly addicted reality escapism. Furthermore, for all of the ways for video gaming to have evolved, it is disturbing and disappointing for him to watch it all unfold as it has while many of it's participants seem to be completely missing the point of his original intentions.

Good question..ask the folks at NEC who designed the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 with one controller port. :!:Why did they not use an additional controller port on the TG16? They eventually sold a peripheral that allowed 2 players did they not? I am not sure what that had to do with what I was talking about regarding the VCS but I guess I can sort of see your point.
-
If the VCS was intended to be a gaming system for one player, they would have manufactured it with one joystick port only.
How does a person really play any game with one's self?
If Bushnell is so dissatisfied with the video game industry, being the well known and respected person that he supposedly is, why doesn't he join the helm of some new project and produce something along the lines of what he is talking about? Rescue the minds and families of today from this onslaught of "trash" games. Put your money where your mouth is buddy.

Please send me a PM if you can help. Thanks.

Well.. Today I picked up Tombstone City, munch Man, and TI Invader so I am all set once I score a console.
-
Thanks so far. Still looking for more of a recommendation for some of the best games.
-
Hmm, I've got ~70 carts and two systems (including my original childhood one), maybe I am a TI collector ?
Cool. That sounds pretty hardcore. What are the best games to get?
-
I just scored a few games for this system (Parsec, Fathom, Super Demon Attack, and Chisholm Trail) but have yet to find a console to play them with. I would like to start a thread devoted to this system seeing as it appears to be more of an obscure line. Could all of the TI-99/4A collectors please show yourselves and contribute to this discussion. Right now all I am looking for is sort of a "My Top 10" favorite games list from you as well as maybe some "things you should know" suggestions or ideas. Thanks in advance.
-
Hopefully they do because it would be pretty hillarious to watch it all unfold.

Man. I just played that Froggie beta. Dude. This is bloody awesome!!!! I am really surpised that there aren't more comments on here about this. Really looking forward to this one.

Nice collection if it's all NTSC. If I were to put a price on it, I would say the lot is worth between $150 to $200. There are two or three boxed games in there that are worth a quite bit.

WARNING: Sticking one's member into the 7800 console's cartridge slot may cause a severe electrical shock and could result in harmful injury or death. Please ensure that the power supply for the 7800 console is removed from the wall before attempting to insert.

The demo for this game is wicked!! Nice work kenfused.

The hacked 7800 trackball version of Centipede plays with analog control, just like the 5200 version.

Can or would anyone else finish any of the unfinished OpCode projects for Eduardo while he deals with his personal issues? I know that the members of the colecovision yahoo group are also quite a talented bunch of programmers.

Happy Halloween
