  1. Amigamaniac burns pretty much any eprom for $8.00 each.... not sure if it's 100% above board or not, I would image it ism but you would have to ask.
  2. That was lovely. Thanks mate, I shall do just that, all the best.
  3. Hey, I just explained myself - your comment came across as pointed and rude to me, so you got the same back. Now you say it was never intended that way and I accept that, hence the apology, but you might want to try wording things a little "nicer" in the future so these misunderstandings don't happen. There is enough uncertainty in the universe without adding anymore.... didn't Tom Baker say that? Anywho, sorry about the misunderstanding and thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  4. Well, look at the above and tell me if you think it MIGHT be construed as someone being a smartarse? Now, you contend you were not trying to be a smartarse so I can only assume I took the above comment the wrong way. In this event I apologise unreservedly for implying you were a smartarse. I was actually just interested in what made the Ti-99 attractive to the retro collector - I happened upon this thread whilst looking through the WANTED section to see if anyone had responded to my wanted thread. I saw people discussing the Ti-99, of which I own a couple, so I thought I might ask those in the know. I honestly did not mean to upset anyone and understand that such a question should normally be opened in the appropriate thread, but I was there, you were there, I thought you might be in the know and it seemed harmless enough. How about we just all get along?
  5. I lucked out twice - two STes, both have the dud DMA. Oh well. Hey GadgetUK, why do you prefer the STFM over the STe? I thought the STe was just an STFM with some extra goodies? In what way is the STFM better than the STe? Or is it more compatible?
  6. Noperz, I am simply taking the piss out of someone with a terrible attitude who opened their mouth to simply bitch when any normal person would simply have answered the question and left being a malcontent smartarse to another more deserving occasion. Are YOU getting it yet?
  7. My question was not intended to open a whole new thread, it was simply a question that could have been answered here, in far fewer words than we have already used in discussing whether it should have been answered here, or in a different thread.
  8. I dont think iceman meant that in a derogatory way - to be quite honest, at first glance I ALSO thought it was a begging collector. Anywho, best of luck in your new adventure (get a C64 first ).
  9. OKiez, looks like the CPC6128 is MUCH more common than the 6128+ so I may to settle for that. Im chasing a vgc Amstrad 6128. Machine only, no monitor, games etc required. Just a clean working machine. If anyone has one they would like to sell please PM me with a price including postage to Australia. Thanks.
  10. Ahhhh, okiez, but lets not stand on convention too much - he never stood on us.
  11. Lol, I was assuming YOU might be in the know - my mistake.
  12. Hi there ozma wars. Great! What keyboard layout does the spanish version use, and do you need to change the boot rom in order to get english basic/os? From memory the plus series has the boot rom on a cartridge, so this should be changible, is this right? What does a good condition 6128 plus go for there?
  13. I have a couple of Ti-99s (original silver), voice modulators etc all boxed. Bought them cheap a few years back, but to be honest Ive never really played around with them. I always considered them a poor "also ran". Truth be told, if I wasnt a mad computer collector (and the fact they were CHEAP) I would not have bothered buying them. ...my question is, what are the pros of the system, and Im not talking about the fact it was the first 16 bit cpu in a personal computer, I mean what software is available that makes them an attractive retro item?
  14. The new Amigas run OS 4.1. Amiga OS 3.9 with all Boingbag updates is nice on the classic machines though. Oh, and I had forgotten the A500 had mono composite out - thats right. However, so does the A2000. Just another reason why the A500 sux compared to the 600 and 1200.
  15. Ill tell you right now, if the PS4 or Xbox 720 come out with a stupid gimmicky controller they will tank fast... and I will wait until they have before I pick one up at a fire sale (I must own one of every console, no matter how craptacular they are - I have two Virtual boys for crying out loud and they sux to the max! ) But I think from the feedback all this kiddy motion sensor rubbish has generated, ill be safe. With a little bit of luck this is just one of those "trends" the industry goes through every so often, like R.O.B., the Powerglove, Super Scope and Menacer. I can still smell the stink from the Powerglove..... bloody Nintendo. I wish I could have written the byline for the Powerglove - "Now you can look like a total dickhead whilst you epic fail on your favourate games thanks to the new Nintendo Plastic Arm Carrybag. Never have cold hands again! Greatly reduces the chances of contracting sexually transmitted deseases (what woman would touch a dickhead waving his arm at a tv whilst wearing half a cheesy robot costume)! Be the envy of other dickheads who, fortunately for them, cannot afford the Nintendo Novelty Arm Condom!"
  16. Considering how primitive the 2600 sound hardware is that's pretty impressive. Is it possible to the harmony notes quickly up and down an octave at 30 times a second? This would give the illusion of a third sound channel, give more bass/depth and does not have the overheads of mixing.
  17. Thanks guys, I will download and try them out tonight. So, from what I can tell, there is no Sap player on the Atari 8 bit yet, only a player for Rmt.... and Xex is an executable... is this right? If so, why is the largest collection of Atari 8 bit music in Sap format?! This makes no sense at all since you cannot play it on the machine that ought to be able to play it the easiest - the machine it originated from. Is there an archive of all Atari 8 bit music in Rmt format? if not, is there a program to convert Sap to Rmt? or IS there a program on Atari 8 bit which will play Sap files? Thanks for the help.
  18. I agree most of what you say, however the Wii was a big seller in spite of the poor 3rd party support.... what is the difference with the Wii U? The Wii was a gimmicky console which gamers avoided but market demographics not usually interested in console gaming took to in droves. The Wii U, well, is the same, so why arent those same casual/non hardcore gamers taking to it? Weird.
  19. Lol, whoah, this kitty has claws! You guys crack me up.
  20. The Wii U is not being well received - at all, and sales are quite slow up until now. Of course this is a catch 22 situation. The Wii U is selling poorly as it has little decent software to make it an attractive purchase (and the default controller sux), and whilst it continues to sell slowly it will not have a user base large enough to publishers to find it an attractive platform to develop on. Hopefully it will die soon and the units we have will become collectors items. I looked at that Aliens Colonial Marines game and it looked very generic and boring, is it really much of a loss?
  21. Summed up in my first post - I collect ALL consoles. Make no mistake, I knew there would be a lot less games I would like on the Wii U compared to say the 360 or PS3, but the way I Looked at it was, the machine is new, has a more powerful GPU and 4 times the ram - surely some good FPS's and RPG's would be available on it so it would get some form of use. Im sure it will - eventually, no console can have NO decent games (even the Jaguar had Tempest 2000). I just find it odd that so few games are being released on it. Its as if publishers are deliberately ignoring it. Why didnt Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, DMC etc get released on it? Odd.
  22. Arghhhh!!1 Workbench 1.3?!?! Kill it! Kill it!!!! Yeah, for what you are using it for the A500 is probably fine, though the A600 would be a lot better - you could ditch the cumbersome floppy emulator and just run WHDLoad games from the internal HD. But hey, as long as you are happy with it. As for looks, the A500 looks fine, I was comparing it to the other models - which makes it the ugly duckling. The C64C and C128 looks nice as they had no better looking cousins, unlike the A500. You are wrong about AGA though. True, 80% of the Amiga library does not use AGA, but there are literally hundreds of great demos that require AGA, and there would have to be over 100 games that use AGA, some of which have ECS versions but the AGA version is nicer. If you do not have an AGA Amiga you are missing some of the cream of the Amiga scene.
  23. Worthless? They are one of the true pioneers of personal computing! High quality, hackable and very expandable - FAR from worthless. On the other hand, in 1985 when the ST was released it could emulate the Mac faster than the Mac itself so you can draw your own conclusion there. I have always wanted to own a IIgs - gorgeous design and with the spiritual successor to the mighty SID. Anyone want to sell me one?
  24. Unfortunately, from all the feedback, sales and reviews, they are not for many people at all - mainly casual gamers, the elderly and kids - I, like many others, do not fit into those categories. Less games are being released that use Move and Kinnect than before because the majority of people do not seem to like that cumbersome system of "control" (and I use the term lightly). When was the last time you saw a PS3 game that actually used the Dualshock tilt controls? I had even forgotten they existed until I played an old game - obviously software producers wised up that most gamers dont like that rubbish. An average controller has 10 or more buttons, 2 analogue sticks and a digital pad these days - how do you replicate that by waving your arms about like a dickhead? I would LOVE to see a youtube video of some freak trying to play an FPS using Kinnect. That would be the ultimate crack up.
  25. Ok, Im going to do you the best favour by being brutally honest - ditch the A500 - sell it on ebay for what you can get. Then buy an A600 or A1200 and a cheap pcmcia to compactflash adapter - you can buy them as cheap as $3.00 from ebay sellers in Hong Kong etc, and a compact flash card (1 GB or more). You will then have a much nicer machine that can boot off its internal hd to Workbench whereby you can run your games from the HD using WHDLoad (MUCH faster than crappy floppy disks, more reliable etc). There is a driver for the compact flash card to pcmcia on Aminet - install it and then you can simply copy games from the pc to Amiga using the compact flash card (the driver on Aminet comes with a file system called Fat95 which allows the Amiga to read/write Fat formatted drivers/devices). A600 and A1200 are relatively cheap. Trying to upgrade a crappy A500 is expensive, difficult and pointless when even an A600 is a far better machine that will do exactly what you want to do out of the box. Hope this helps.
