I've got nice copies of Pigs in Space, Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes (which has a tear in the label) and Threshold for sale...$10 a piece shipped or $25 for the whole lot. Anyone interested?

How much do you think the Channel F is worth?
J.Max replied to Bryan's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I paid 50 for my boxed Channel F, so you got a great deal! Kind of a lame system though, but not as bad as the RCA Studio II, which is the absolute pits. -
My auctions Thanks for looking! Just trying to clear some space for some new stuff...

That's awesome...but over $200 is a bit steep for me right now...

That particular one allows you to use regular NES controllers. Most of the newer ones do and they are good quality. I'd avoid the ones with built in games...they usually suck.

These are 100% worth it...I paid double that for mine and it was worth every penny!

Nintendo's Vitrual Boy...What does everyone think?
J.Max replied to vgcollector666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I want to clarify what I meant about indirectly leading to the death of it's creator. If Yokoi hadn't been fired by Nintendo for this debacle of a system, he more than likely wouldn't have been out on the freeway that day...I know there were a thousand other things that could have saved him as well, but still. (I'm not the first one to say this, BTW. ) Oh, and I own a VB, in case anyone was wondering. I have ten or so games too. The system still sucks. Wario Land could have been done on any other system (and was); the VB special technology didn't add anything to it. A true killer app should provide something that shows off the hardware and makes people want to buy the system in question. There was nothing like that on the Virtual Boy. -
Nintendo's Vitrual Boy...What does everyone think?
J.Max replied to vgcollector666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hideously bad system...one of the all-time worst ideas for a console ever. If you are defending it, you aren't taking an objective view because there was no way this thing was going to succeed for the following reasons: 1. Headache inducing display - You may not get headaches from it, but most people do. 2. No way to show games in magazines - There was no way to get decent screen shots in the video game magazines and therefore, no way to show off the system. 3. It's not VR - Nintendo tried to market this as a VR device and it isn't one. VR implies that the system attempts to mimic reality and it doesn't. There is no head-tracking, there were no first-person games, and again, everything is red. It's a stereoscopic 3D unit, and those have been around forever Even the Sega Master System and the Vectrex had them, and theirs were better implementations. 4. Everything is red - Nintendo expected people to pay $200 for a monochrome console? Huh? 5. No game support - It lacked a killer app. You're supposed to pay $200 for an all-red version of a (at the time) 12 year old arcade game and tennis. Who's going to buy that? There was no game that made the Virtual Boy a must-buy. 6. Lack of support from Nintendo - Nintendo was pretty half-hearted about the whole thing. They didn't even want to release it, but they essentially did so as a favor to Gumpei Yokoi. Yamaguchi was less than thrilled with it. 7. PSX and Saturn - So which one would you buy? The PSX which had about 50-60 great games out at the time, played on the TV, you could play with other people and it didn't give you headaches or a console with 10 games , that was all red and you looked silly playing? 8. The technology wasn't mature - This speaks for itself. The console wasn't powerful enought to do what it needed to do to be successful. It needed to be in color and have more power to create "virtual worlds". This was a system so badly designed that it actually set VR technology back. A console so awful that it (indirectly) led to the death of its creator. Those of you who are defending it are either Nintendo fanboys or have been collecting games for it for so long that you can't see it for what it is - one of the biggest mistakes ever made in the video game business. -
Well, the Colecovision was one of the last pre-crash systems, and there weren't nearly as many sold as the Atari 2600...I remember when I got one for my 10th birthday....I must have bugged my parents for weeks. That system got played and played and played! A lot of us have those types of memories of it, but the user base was smaller. Classic systems will have more fans depending on how many people had them when the systems first came out. It's not surprising that colecovision.com is pretty dead.

Genesis. It has better shooters, even if the graphics weren't as pretty. Eliminate Down, Gley Lancer, Sagaia, Thunder Force III, Lightning Force, Truxton, Vapor Trail, Panorama Cotton, Phelios, Super Airwolf, Zero Wing, and a ton of others are only on the Genesis. Plus it has more games by Treasure: Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, McDonalds Treasureland Adventure, and Yu Yu Hakusho. The SNES is great too, but mostly because of Nintendo and Square's games. There was just more variety on the Genny.

There is an adaptor that allows you to use Atari contollers on the CV. It looks like the keypad from the CV without the joystick part.

Was Hori even AROUND back then? I know there WAS at least one stick made that was TG16-compatible and had arcade parts. 887082 HORI's been around forever... I have an Apolo stick for mine, it's pretty good and it works with just about every system.

Circuit City Summer Clearance 7/3/2005
J.Max replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Modern Console Discussion
They don't pay on commission BUT they might as well. Managers/Supervisors at Best Buy are paid bonuses for meeting sales goals on service plans, accessories, and other high profit items. Also, it was my experience that sales reps there are evaluated on service plan sales for promotions, raises, etc. So yeah, they don't get paid for every sale that they make, but they do have incentives for selling certain items. That 5% above cost discount thing was a joke, BTW. Most of the larger products at consumer electronics stores are sold close to cost anyway. (That's why the they want to sell items like cables and service plans. The margin on an HDTV is only about 6-7%, but the margin on a set of Monster Cables is 200-300%. That's why they don't like it when you walk out without accessories.) -

Genesis Pirate Cart (2 in 1) Question
J.Max replied to King_Salamon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's very possible that the cart is dead. Sometimes the EPROM burners that the HK guys use to burn the games don't work all that well. They don't exactly test them... -
One thing that's really nice about Paypal is the fact that they have a debit card available. It's made using the service SSSOOOOOOOO much easier. Unless Google does that, they'll have no chance. Many have tried to beat Paypal, all have failed...

New DC release Trizeal - Need Help/Advice
J.Max replied to GrizzLee's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Definitely not the case with me. I have multiple platforms with all kinds of shooters including Psyvariar, Castle Shigigami, the terrible Mobile Light Force series, Ikaruga, R*TYPES, Gradius Series, Thinder Force Series, Radiant Silver Gun, etc... etc... etc... all the way back to Space Invaders. Yes, many of the old school shooters are just dodge and shoot. Trizeal seems to be of that nature. I was wondering if there is some kind of Uber power-up you can get or what sets the game apart from the others. Otherwise it seems to be the same ol game with a new paint job. It does support VGA and vertical monitor modes... a nice touch for DC users. So far, in the repsonses, it looks as if no one has purchased this game or knows anything about it. BTW: For the record, I consider Ikaruga and the recent Gradius V the bar for shooting games. Both are fantastic and very different in implementation. -Lee 848046 Terrible Mobile Light Force series? Mobile Light Force 2 is Shiro no Shikigami (the prequel to the US Castle of Shikigami or Shiro no Shikigami 2 in Japan). It's not really a series...they're two unrelated games that the US publisher changed the names and saddled them with bad cover art. The games themselves have nothing to do with the cover art; they're great! As far as Trizeal goes, it's just a basic shooter, albeit a fun one. It's not one of the best on the DC, but it isn't bad either. For the record, I rate the DC shooters like this: 1. Ikaruga 2. Border Down (Why all the hatin' on this game? I think it's awesome!) 3. Mars Matrix 4. Psyvariar 2 5. Giga Wing 2 6. Chaos Field 7. Shiro no Shikigami 2 8. Zero Gunner 2 9. Giga Wing 10. Trizeal Bangai-O would be at the top of the list, but I don't consider it a shooter...I don't consider Cannon Spike a shooter either. (I'm aware that there are other shooters for DC, this is my top list.) Gradius V is awesome too, as is Radiant Silvergun, although RS is not worth the ridiculous price you'll pay for it on eBay. I've owned three copies of that game, and as good as it is, I can't justify $200 for it. -
Genesis Pirate Cart (2 in 1) Question
J.Max replied to King_Salamon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yes, all you have to do is file the corners down, or alternately, get a converter cart. There is no region protection on most Genesis games, and certainly not on an HK. -
Anyone know where to buy repro Vectrex overlays?
J.Max replied to J.Max's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I don't think he's making them anymore. That site hasn't been updated in 3 years. -
Just like the title says, I'm looking for a full set of Vectrex overlays, preferably reproductions since they'll be cheaper. There was one guy who used to sell them on Earthlink, but his page is gone. Anyone know where I might get some?
