  1. Thanks muchly for the speedy replies, guys. I'm currently overseas in Australia for another 2 months and will be back home to Vancouver at the end of August and I'm eager as all get out to get home now and try to figure out.

On a scale of 1-10, how hard would you say that endeavour ^ may be? I won't deny it; I'm clearly a bit of a ludite when it comes to most forms of technology. I do at least, have a knowledge of soldering so I'm hoping that that may be enough to help. I'm terribly nervous about opening it up should I accidentally cause any detrimental damage to an otherwise perfect machine.

*big sigh* I was really hoping it was just a need of a new A/V cable (It's been more than a year since I've looked at the FB2 and thus I don't remember what the back of it looks like, let alone it's connections).

Don't worry. On a scale of 1-10, I'd say it's about a 2; it's a very simple procedure. As I mentioned earlier, the cable is threaded through a slot in the back of the console and wrapped around one of the plastic posts before it connects to the board, so all you have to do is thread the new cable and connect it in the same way. If you're comfortable with soldering, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you'd rather not do it yourself, let me know and I can replace the cable for you (I've got a bunch of A/V cables left over from another project).

Thanks for all the useful information :) It's much appreciated as I mentioned I'm rather cdim witted when it comes to such feats.

When I get back home to Vancouver at the end of August, I'll look into shipping costs and I just might take you up on your offer of fixing it. I'm terribly nervous and even though it sounds like a simple procedure, and in all reality, probably is, I still think I could manage to bungle it up. I feel kinda silly going to all this trouble to fix a simple cord when I could just buy a new one... Sadly, I'm a bit of a sentimental and I happen to LOVE this FB2.

If you could message me maybe and give me a general whereabouts as to where you reside and thus I could figure out what the shipping costs would be maybe, that'd be great :)

    Thanks muchly for you help!

  2. Welcome to AtariAge!

Yes, the FB2 uses a standard cable. To replace it, simply get a male-to-male composite video/audio cable (the system is monaural, so you'll only need the yellow and white connectors), chop off the connectors on one end, strip the wires, open the console, and solder the new cable in place of the old one. Notice how the old cable is mounted: it's been a while since I had my FB2 open, but I believe it's tied around one of the plastic posts on the inside, and you'll want to mount the new cable in the same way before you solder it in.

  3. Hello to all :)

I've spent the last 3 hours googling everything possible in hopes of finding a new A/V cord for my FB2. I know the systems themselves are dirt cheap but I see no reason to buy a whole new system when mine is in perfect working condition.

I got the FB2 about 2 or 3 years ago now for Christmas and while moving house last year, somehow one of the actual prongs of the cable broke off in my TV. I was hoping maybe one of you avid atari lovers might be able to help me out? I'm desperate and miss being able to play it. Literally a week before we moved I had finally found a pair of original 2600 paddles to access the hidden games and never even got to try them out before we moved and thus before I broke the damn A/V cord.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks in advance to all.
