  1. Still love a good run at Street Fighter II.  Something about making your way through all the opponents, and then say, taking out M. Bison with an uppercut that sends him off the screen, finishing him.  Satisfaction :)

  2. Just got to say how much I love Mortal Kombat 9 (specifically).  Always been my favorite of the series.  Nothing against MKX, 11, or the new one...just didn't have the same magic as the big return to 2d playing field.  Love the graphics, the AI, just adore it, great fun.  And finally got a copy on PC so I don't have to worry about killing my Xbox 360. :)

  3. Just bought a little indie game on Steam that I STRONGLY recommend :)  "Dome Keeper" is currently $8, and it's like a cross between Dig Dug and Tower Defense games.  I really....dig...it.   Wah waaaaah.  Seriously though, give it a shot.  Plus if you hate it Steam lets you get a refund if you don't play it too much.

I love both of those things. I will order it. Thanks for the tip.

  4. Just skipped my way through a couple of videos discussing whether a new fighting game was "dying", and complaining about the social media managers not responding to player complaints and releases of patches, new content etc.  And I remember with one of my arcade consoles, reading a ton of "this company isn't doing this isn't doing that", not to do with game releases etc.  And my summary is that I'm just so very glad to not be a part of this whiny, I-bought-your-product-so-you-must-fellate-me-constantly-24/7 mentality.  I don't play online or care about it, never have, never will (except for like, co-op stuff once in awhile just to chat up a friend).  So I'm glad but I also want to say... these are the jackholes that are causing game prices to rise; $70 is alarming especially for an incomplete game.  Why so expensive? Because they have to have teams of people constantly placating whiners online.

Give me Robotron, Street Fighter II, Borderlands, or Mortal Kombat 9 all day over this dipsh1t stuff.

@bent_pin  "bugs"  heee...That's funny right there!

  5. Shall you defeat Gunrock at Downvolta??  Shall you??!??

  6. Working on SD cards for my Modded Dreamcast.  And...having trouble paring it down to TWO 32 gb cards (the max size that GD EMU will accept).  So. Many. Great. Games.  Soul Calibur, Speed Devils, Armada, Silent Scope, Project Justice, Power Stone, Space Channel 5.  Just 7 of the 50 I had to narrow down to.  Just crazy.  Oh, and just in case anyone asks, yeah, I have and purchased all my games too.  DC nut. :)

      Reaperman

Is that a limitation of legit gd emus? I've never owned a 'real' one, but I have a 256gb in my aliexpress clone.

      Hydro Thunder

Unsure, but in skimming Reddit and other users, a lot of GD Emus will not read over 32GB.  Which just means I have to swap a couple of cards but...kind of too bad, since they're so physically small that it's not easy to label them etc.

  7. Finally got around to some of the lesser known Dreamcast games; weird since I'm a huge Sega and DC guy, strange that it took me so long.  But having an absolute blast with Suzuki Alstare Racing, Tech Romancer, and Test Drive LeMans.  What a great system, when even the unheralded games are pretty awesome. :)

I beat Suzuki Alstare Racing 100% several years ago, it's one of my favorite games of all time. And yet I still don't know what an Alstare is lol. Dreamcast racing games rule

I always tell people, Dreamcast has one of the most consistent libraries out there. Even many of its dumb/bad games can still be fun to play.

  8. Been using an Xbox One controller for PC / Steam gaming, and enjoying it...but mine died recently (the directional Up button appears to have died, working about 20% of the time at best).  Looking for a good replacement, and am honestly just bewildered at the number of choices!  Rather too many than too few but...daaaang some people spend as much as a new Series S console for a controller!  :P  Probably just going to get a MS Series controller after spending HOURS reading reviews of various brands.  What a crazy market!!

      SlidellMan

The X-360 controller's design just may be the most copied in history since the Atari 2600.

    2. Gamma Ray

      Gamma Ray

Xbox controllers tend to have the best compatibility with everything, even though the DirectInput layer was never great. Xinput is pretty ubiquitous these days, though. And you can usually run non-Steam games through Steam and get Steam Input features to help with the protocol situation. I'd recommend whatever official Xbox controller you can find or a high quality third party controller for an Xbox console.

  9. Just a brief mention of how thankful I have been lately, as a gamer.  To be able to have all the best systems and games at my fingertips with modern advances, just incredible.  Playing the 2600 or 7800 either with an Edladdin arcade stick, or on an OLED via the GameStation Pro, just insane experiences.  Genesis via the Analogue Mega SG, all the great re-releases of old games onto new systems.  It's just wonderful. :)

Just thinking about it,  It is a good time to be a gamer!   I even still have homebrews from past orders I haven't yet played,...Hmmmm  (I feel a Status Update coming on)

  10. Very seriously considering going to a local game shop tomorrow and unloading a boxed 5200 2-port, a Saturn CIB (nearly new with all docs, etc), Saturn Virtua Stick, a Genesis / Sega CD / 32x Model 2 Tower combo with box for the 32X, a Bioshock Skyhook replica boxed / working / like new, Typing of the Dead for Dreamcast With Dreamcast Keyboard, Dreadnaught Factor for 5200 CIB and a buncha other goodies.  Hoping they make me a solid offer on everything, fingers crossed!  If anyone has interest in those items for reasonable prices LMK.  Otherwise, hoping to get some decent $ and/or store credit...and finally unload some of my IMO oversized / underused collection :)

  11. OG Xbox games are nice and dirt cheap, thankfully.  Was Xmas shopping for others but ended up with nice copies of Apex, Wrath Unleashed, and the Halo 2 Steelbook version for less than a pizza would've run me.  :)

Well I recommend a CRT if you have one :)   I snagged a Chimera HDMI adapter because I'm super big on the OG Xbox / nostalgic.  I think you'll enjoy.  Sure the graphics from that era don't compare to now, but they're not bad at all either.  Especially on the top tier games like Halo 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, etc.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Probably better graphics than I am used to,  heh...I used to have a CRT in my "Atari Room",  but now I have a Roku Smartass TV,  wait is that it? haha...It's an HD LCD and it looks Great!  I run it though a Retro Tink 2X PRO so no worries!  I'll have to check what cables I have for XBOX,  Hey,  think I've got a Component Out!  I have a few Multi-Format A/V outs (Like they work for PS2/XBOX/GC, etc.)...It Does have Component!  Another has A/V/S-Video.  Which I also have a projector w/ S-Video, VGA etc...

    4. Hydro Thunder

      Hydro Thunder

That is awesome!!  Yeah the RetroTink is DEFINITELY going to take care of that ol' Xbox :)

  12. FINALLY got my hands on a Satiator for the Saturn, and oh is my free time gone.  :)  Had played SF Zero 3 before but never with the Saturn controller.  Whole world of difference, what a great experience!  Now to get into some of the more obscure (and/or too expensive) titles.  Er I mean games that I already own but am playing the backup version of. :)

  13. Hello and thank you for hearing my proposal! My game would involve digging into the dirt for no reason.  Whilst underground, you encounter cute little fellas who are for some reason deadly to touch, and fire breathing dragons.  In both cases, you jam a nozzle up their butts and pump air into them until they explode grotesquely.  But it's all very colorful, cartoonish, and set to very cute music.  *handshake*

Gotta be Honest @Hydro Thunder,  Every time I see your name,  I hear the Arcade game (or is it Dreamcast version?) in my head saying Hydro Thunder!

    3. Hydro Thunder

      Hydro Thunder

For me it's both versions!  Love the arcade version, but spent way, way more time with the DC version.  And the remade Xbox version :)

  15. Finally got a copy of the Beat Em Up book "Go Straight"...STRONGLY  recommend! It's expensive (about $60 with shipping from the UK), but it's thorough, well written, and just an absolute joy.  Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Captain Commando, Ninja Baseball BatMan, Gaia Crusaders, Renegade, the Combatribes, it's all there.

  16. There's a super fun little indie game on sale on Steam right now for under $4 that I just got to recommend.  Boneraiser Minions.  Check it out, I think nearly everyone will be entertained.  If not, well, it's dirt cheap. :)

  17. Kicked around some games today just because they were easy to start...MK11, KI for Xb1, they looked good but just didn't satisfy.  Then I fired up Castle Crashers.  Nothing like an absolute classic to fill the need!  Still one of my favorites!

Havent tried that one yet. I thought it was stuck on xbla.

They released a remastered version for pretty much everything, and it goes for around $10 IIRC.  Goooood stuff, recommend strongly.

  18. Enjoying the demo of SF6 so far, just wish it was for XB 1.

  19. Egads I love Kingdom Rush.  So, so, so much.

  20. Had a surprisingly engaging experience playing the original Halo on the original Xbox last night.  Roped me in for a few hours - still incredible fun.  Such perfect music, controls, dramatics.

  21. This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions twists all our arms collectively, but if sweetness can win, and it can, then I'll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friend. Peace.

Sometimes I wonder,  if Adventure Time has a higher viewership in states where it's legal.   (heh, ...  higher)

  22. Pointless mental gymnastics... Which is truly better, Streets of Rage 4 or Streets of Rage Remake?  Leaning towards SoRR...but not by much :)  Also recommend against playing a bunch of one, then the other...since SoR4 changed up the button layout to fit new style controllers, vs the old Genesis 6-button arcade pad.

  23. The recent TMNT Shredder Streets of Rage 2 Genesis hack is INSANE.  Just imagining how our faces would have looked to see a Genesis running animation like this back in the day.  I'm not even a huge TMNT guy, but this is just amazing work.

  24. I know it's almost ten years old now...but Double Dragon Neon is just one of the best brawlers ever made.  It's funny, has great enemies, stages, combat... Clearly a labor of love and full of humor and great action.  And with a killer ending, just terrific.  Oh, and how many brawlers are 3 plus hours long to beat?? Class of its own in that way.

uh, it's over 10 years now, but the rest holds true

    2. wongojack

      wongojack

All of that is probably true, but I actually found myself thinking that it seemed to bring the Double Dragon gameplay slightly forward while adding in an almost toxic preservation of the worst elements of 80s culture.  Turned it up to "Neon" with runaway sexist stereotypes and problems solved with violence.  I mean, it IS a videogame, so I wasn't expecting anything else, but it just sorta hit me across the face in a weird way, and I didn't want to play it anymore.

Still, I have it on my list to play later.  Maybe my timing was wrong or something.

    3. Hydro Thunder

      Hydro Thunder

It's hard to argue against the "worst elements of 80s culture" comments, really.  But it seems to take everything that it does very lightly, at least?  Like, the opening part with the violent attack on Marian is clearly a throwback to the original game.  Which is laughably (??), horrifically sexist and violent.  Like a lot of "street fightin'" movies and such from the time.  And agreed, nearly all brawlers / beat 'em ups are exactly this, solve everything with a roundhouse kick.  But yes, it's a video game - what fun would it be to instead simulate instituting policies that reduce poverty and crime through rehabilitation, funding, education and the like?

I guess I didn't note a whole ton of sexism that wasn't already in the original games or common in other brawlers.  And the ending is truly epic (and gives some redemption to Marian, heh heh heh).  I'd say give it a shot due to the humor, stages, and combat mechanics.  And if it slaps you in the face in the ways you mention, let it go.
