What Xbox 360 game are you currently playing?
Curious Sofa replied to moycon's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Really enjoying Double Dragon Neon for XBLA as well as Earth Defense Force - Insect Armageddon. EDFIA is very similar to its predecessor, but with smoother controls, better camera angles, slightly spiffier graphics, more player options and stuff like that. -
Former IGN Employee Admits Review Scores Are Skewed...
Curious Sofa replied to xg4bx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well perfectly honestly I think Gerstmann is a lazy and awful reviewer, I just thought the Penny Arcade take was funny. And if it went down as you say, I will simply say they had the backlash (whatever of it there was) coming for their poor timing and how badly the situation looks when as noted, your site is all about K & L and you're clearly getting $ from the company, and then you fire a guy who writes a negative review of it. You've got to know that's going to look bad, and Germann's been a terrible reviewer his whole career. Should've fired him before that. -
Kicking myself for missing the first run, but will watch the store for the 2nd run. Pretty please have enough boxes / manuals! Got to play this at the CGE where Halo 2600 showed up, one was nearly right next to the other. Have been pining for it ever since.

I hate to rag on Sony, but...
Curious Sofa replied to shadow460's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I had so many PS1's die on me I gave up. If it wasn't the disc drive / laser, it was memory cards (Sony Brand) losing everything. PS2s generally also always ate it. I have a slim PS2 that I got semi recently brand new, and it's been good, thank goodness. Not even interested in the PS3. Still have my launch day Dreamcast, has never failed or frozen even one time. I have about 30 games for it, it has gotten more play than maybe any game system I've ever had and it never has faltered. I had a Saturn from launch day that bit it after 10 or so years of heavy play. The 360s were complete garbage until they found the "fix". I don't know what they did, but after a certain point I heard they'd perfected solving the ring of death, and sure enough, I've had my most recent of three 360's for...3? 4? years now with no troubles. And I don't know if I've ever heard a story that I believe of a Gamecube or Wii dying. Those mofos just seem completely solid. And I'm not even a fan of the GC really, only two or three games for it I'd ever care about. But they're well made. -

Knights into Dreams HD remake- any early impressions?
Curious Sofa replied to cybercylon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I eagerly downloaded the demo, played it a bit, and for some reason am longing to play the Saturn version again. Not 100% sure why, maybe I just like the Saturn 3d controller or something. I know the graphics are better and they've included Xmas Nights, but I guess I'm old schooling it. I'll retry the demo again and see if it's worth $10 just to have on my 360's games list. Now I'm just hoping they'll release Burning Rangers, Shining Force III and of course.... Duh, Sega.... Panzer Dragoon Saga. Oh, and Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder from the arcade too. Which never saw a home release, unbelievably. -
I do not, as a rule, PC game aside from emulators. This one may change that.... I loved to pieces the 360 version of Torchlight, and from what I'm seeing, the sequel may or may not actually get released on the consoles (and if so, how long do I gots to wait?). Me wants! I just prefer couch-based gaming, but may make an exception for Torchlight II.

What Xbox 360 game are you currently playing?
Curious Sofa replied to moycon's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Killed almost all day playing Fire Pro Wrestling, the new Avatar pro wrestling $10 download game. It's not perfect, but it sure is fun for awhile. Definitely check out the free trial. Not sure what to make of the new Double Dragon Neon, seems like it has potential, but also potential to stink up the place. Demo leaves me wondering. And "RAW" seems like a decent take on Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, but it just has me frothing for Torchlight 2 more than anything. I'll kick the demo around more before deciding. -
And now the damned thing is going for $450ish on Amazon. Grrr. Me wants, seems worth...the $150 it was originally priced at. Don't think I'd give $200 for it though. Much less $450. But it's a cool offering, and they're bastards for making it so limited.

Batman:Brave and the Bold and Spiderman:Shattered Dimensions Thanks for the tip! Picked up Batman: Brave and the Bold and very much enjoy it. Plus it's $15 brand new these days, makes it all the better. Kind of a throwback style, playing it reminds me of Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis. And to a lesser extent, the entirely different game of the same name for the SNES. Very strange humor they have with this Brave and the Bold (not familiar with it until this game). Game is really intended for younger kids, but I'm enjoying it. Next up will be the Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions game. Trying not to buy it new as I'm trying to keep to my principles and not support Activision. Trouble is no used ones are currently at any of my local game shops, which is usually a good sign that the game is pretty good. And one more Wii point - Resident Evil 4 is $9.99 brand new from Amazon these days. Picked it up (again) to re-play through.

Front Loading Atari Flashback II Cartridge Mod
Curious Sofa replied to atariguy1021's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I like both this and the other non-front loading mod that sean49938 did. I'd be buying one, except I already have too many systems as is. I would think this one would be worth a slight bit more than the cost of the other one, which was $85? So maybe $100 ish would be reasonable. -
So I'm not sold on the Wii U as of yet... For some of you that are, what's your main reasoning? As in, what are you most looking forward to playing on it / doing with it that is exciting? I'm definitely not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious what the draw is. Kinda still in love with the Wii, personally.

Anyone know off hand what that 2-d Batman game was, or the cell shaded type of Spiderman game? My favorite Wii games of all time were actually not in the video (or went by too fast): Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Gunblade NY. Oh, and the WiiWare game "Rage of the Gladiator" (a punch-out homage done up in medieval fantasy style).

Neo Geo X Gold System to release in December for $199
Curious Sofa replied to goldenegg's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm interested in this, and have no interest in the handheld. I just like the arcade stick. But it's not worth $200 just yet... Favorite Neo Geo Games of all time, people discuss perhaps? Off hand I'm thinking Operation Super Spy, Viewpoint, all the Metal Slugs, and of course all those crazy fighting games. -
I would also rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy, but that's getting off the topic of having some Centenarians carve into Ax's joystick.

I love the "Carved in 24k gold by 100-year old Armenian craftsmen". Like, are they all precisely 100 years old? And how exactly does being that old help their ability to hold a steady hand whilst carving the Gemstick?

Yeeeeees. I had to miss the last one due to a series of personal siteeations, but I am frothin' for 2013! Frothin', I tell you!

2012 Harmony Games-Last round - Seaweed Assault
Curious Sofa replied to Dan Iacovelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
First try, interrupted by a phone call as I always seem to be...and just a starting point, and no screenshot 'cause I'm lazy, 1,330 (real hardware, on the actual cart even! #33, proud owner ) -
So how many people here do not drink the Atari koolade?
Curious Sofa replied to macgoo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I find the Kool-Aid to be a fairly tasty treat, myself. I don't go hating on other company's systems, I just have a strong preference for Atari, partially due to it being my first love. I had an Odyssey2 back in the day, but the Atari was far preferred. And yeah, I have several Sega systems, and thus like their Kool-Aid too. And an Xbox, and a 360, and a PS2, and a Wii, and a SNES. And someday may go for a Colecovision. But I love my 2600, my 5200, my 7800, my Flashback 2 to pieces, probably more than the other systems combined. Maybe. Okay maybe not. But I like them a disproportionate amount. (Genesis CDX / 32X, Saturn and Dreamcast make this a tough call). And I always have hated the NES, go figure. Always hated how it looked, hated the controllers passionately, didn't think the games were my thing. So maybe I'm drunk on the heavily spiked Kool-Aid. -
The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters
Curious Sofa replied to cOLeCoHiTMan's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I personally have to disagree that the filmmakers' supposedly falsely portrayed Billy Mitchell. I'm not saying they didn't lean things in a certain way, but holy tamales, that guy is really a piece of work. You can say they cast you in a poor light, but it wasn't as if they were taking tiny snippets and piecing them together. He looks bad after watching him talk for a few minutes straight. IMO, that's a pretty good indication that the guy _is_ bad, or perhaps he's gotten better and simply _was_ bad at the time. I don't think the way Twin Galaxies was run was actually all that bad. Not by any means bulletproof, but I've seen worse. They were working on improving, they made mistakes, but their intents were good. And plus, Walter Day is _the man_. Okay, a bit of a muppet, but I still like the guy. -
If the cost is in the region of $40 per cart, count me in. I've never had the patience for 5200 emulators but don't care. I'll buy unplayed.

Some Dreamcast servers still up?!
Curious Sofa replied to Atariman's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Oh, back in the day when you could buy a game like Phantasy Star Online, and pay for it, and not have to pay another dime as part of some preposterous monthly maintenance fee _on top of what you paid for the game_. What a naive utopia the Dreamcast represented. -
Nothing but positive experience with Best Electronics for me. Especially, as stated above, their Gold 5200 controllers. Nothing but positive, that is, except for navigating their website. But yeah, just look around, find what you want, email them and they'll get back to you with a total, costs, answer any questions, and away you go.
