  1. Throwing out some favorites for DC, avoiding the fighting games as the OP said they're not into them (which is a bit of a shame as I think the DC is an absolute fighting game powerhouse, what with Soul Calibur, VF3, Power Stone 1 and 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, etc): Seconding the motion above for Toy Commander, Cannon Spike and Demolition Racer: No Exit... Adding Speed Devils (a fun racer if _long_), Typing of the Dead (need a DC Keyboard, but it's _awesome_), Space Channel 5 and Ooga Booga (how many witch-doctor shooting / fighting games you gonna come across anyways??). Have fun with the DC!
  2. I too would like to see links for some of this, as I'm too lazy to research all of it on my own. Particularly the 5200 leather covers, Gauntlet (release date, roughly??) and the composite video mods.
  3. I remember working at an arcade back when Mortal Kombat II came out. People loved it, but that game was in all seriousness completely unfinished, it was so buggy. Games would freeze in the middle of a battle and the entire system would reset maybe every fifth or sixth game. But people kept pumping in quarters at a record-smashing pace in order to pay Midway to play-test their game. And Midway would release updates to the boards, sometimes charging the arcade vendors for them (?!?!), but no one stopped playing, no one stopped making money. It was a travesty, but in ways Midway was the smartest guy in the room. Why spend the money to play-test if people are willing to do it for you while paying you? And same with D3. If people didn't buy the game (and defend it), if enough people lobbied for their money back.... But as a whole, our society is not principled enough. So this is indeed the way of gaming, and has been for quite some time.
  4. Mmm, tempted! I've not been to Portland, but that damned show Portlandia has me thinking about it, and this is as good an excuse as any! The 9pm to Midnight extended arcade / cash bar hours sounds fun too. Just gotta see if flight / hotel rates will make this doable. Seems like you guys have _quite_ the event set up this year!
  5. Agreed fully, look for a Slik Stik on Ebay or wherever you can get one, they're great and not too expensive. If you can find a TAC-2, also by Suncom, go for that, it's hands down the best I've ever used. But they seem to be getting more expensive last I checked ($50 or $70 or some similar nonsense).
  6. OH me wants that mame cabinet so. And I even have use of a van.... But for the next several weeks, nowhere near the time to go fetch. Iowa to Florida and back is _quite_ a journey. Damn! Nice cabinet, Bob!!!
  7. I'm thinking all of the Sega 6-button Arcade Sticks had the holy hell beaten out of them by dudes playing Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition. And they were a bit mushy for my taste from the outset. 6-button pad, I tell you. Single-handedly had me defending the Genesis over the Snes during their hotly contested years.
  8. Alas, I've been waiting for this since the waning moments of MGC 2011 but due to a firestorm of BS in my life, work, and such, had to cancel my hotel reservation with great sorrow and can't make it. And thusly, I would like for everyone to enjoy themselves thoroughly but please report that everything about the show sucked afterwards and assure me that I missed nothing. I kid about that. And in fact, I would request that people take as many gazillion photos as possible so that I may re-live the event vicariously after you all get home and upload them, and maybe some short YouTube vids and such. I hope it's great again, and shall be looking forward to CGE 2013!
  9. Yeah, Moonwalker CIB alone is worth more than $30 if it's in good shape, well done! It's not super rare, it sold a fair number of copies I believe. But it's sought after, partially because it's a GREAT and hilarious game, and partially for the Micheal Jackson / true 80/90's memorabilia factor. As to the Sega 6-button arcade stick, I remember not liking it much. Can't say for sure why; I believe the 3-button arcade stick is well regarded. I use and LOVE to pieces a Sega 6-button arcade Pad. I think it's the best controller I've ever played with for any system, frankly. If you haven't gotten one (and make sure it's a Sega brand one), make sure to track one down. I believe there are sellers on Amazon who have Sega brand ones brand new for $12 or so last I checked.
  10. I also have to vote against Collectors Cards and Games. Might be a recent thing, but I have seriously been emailing with the guy since...November, I think? Maybe earlier. Saying "I'd like to buy these items from your website...". And he's been writing back with the "let me see if I can find them...". Then a month later "Almost ready...". Month later "Okay I have most of these items...." Yeek. Not good right now, but his selection and prices are hard to beat, so I hope it all comes together.... Had excellent experiences with atari2600.com as well as Trade n Games. I would honestly say Trade N Games is the most professional and quickest responding I've dealt with of all the retro online game shops. And they've got the best website to boot.
  11. Those Froggo Games for 7800 are both rare and pretty sweet to play. Good grab!
  12. I wouldn't worry just yet; particularly with the "holiday" on Monday, and the way the post office has been lately, I'm thinking you will get it late next week depending on where it's coming from and going to. I've had stuff arrive at my doorstep while still not showing going anywhere via tracking. So I wouldn't be worried just yet, personally.
  13. Ack, Ransom hit me right between the eyes. I have a second 5200 "just in case", grrr. I hate being pegged! I also wanted to mention that wood_jl's scenario is exaggerated highly; I don't see why on earth you would need to get two of the Best electronics controllers; if you get one, you can use another that say doesn't have a working start button, etc. I play Space Dungeon precisely that way. My total cost for one controller with shipping from Best was $45 if I remember right, a couple of years ago. $45 < $100. By far. Just don't go scaring people too quickly. And also, I can't really say why precisely, but I (and likely a lot of others) am a console guy. I had a Vic 20 and a C64 back in the day, but I have NO interest in an 800, just none. Thus, 5200. Lots of stuff out for the 5200 that never came out for 2600 or 7800, or came out in better form for 5200. I'm not saying everyone has to love it, I'm just saying that we who love it aren't completely out of our minds (necessarily). It's not like being a Cubs fan, or something, or being one of those people that loves something because its many flaws somehow endear it to the owner (IMO Volkswagen owners like my Dad, but that's off topic!). The 5200 isn't everyone's cup of tea, but a reasonable argument can and has been made that it rocks. I don't know which of my Atari consoles I'd keep if I could only keep one, but the 5200 would definitely be a strong contender versus the 2600 and 7800. That says a lot, IMHO.
  14. 1. Best version of Moon Patrol of the consoles (only other one is the 2600, and the 5200 version whips its buttocks) 2. Dual controller Space Dungeon 3. Generally much better sound than either the 2600 or 7800 (see above, Moon Patrol soundtrack for example) 4. My favorite version of Pac-Man for any system. I can't even fully explain it, I just really love 5200 Pac-Man, even above the arcade one. 5. My favorite version of Space Invaders for any system. Love the different creatures, the sound effects, the animations on the invaders. 6. I love the Dreadnaught Factor, and don't have interest in an Intellivision (the only other console it came out for I believe). The video game critic hated it, but that guy is often completely insane. 7. Controller problems? Get a Best Electronics lifetime gold refurbished controller for $40ish. Problems solved. 8. Hate the controllers? Okay, I'm sort of down with this, particularly the buttons for button mash games. Solutions are out there though; Wico, competition pro, or in these forums there are dudes who mod PC controllers for the 5200. I've got one and love it. 9. Qix
  15. I am surprised, but I played the demo a few times and was sorely underwhelmed. Even though the game looks right, sort of. I really hate the attempt at side art, or whatever you call the two diagonal lines they draw next to the screen. And yes, you can remove them, but then it's just blank next to the screen, very bare looking. No side art people? And obviously, the game is a simple button masher. But somehow it felt more lame than playing XMen, and more tedious, despite how much I loved the game back in the day. I still enjoy a round of Simpsons on Mame, but that might be due to using an XArcade stick and buttons, not sure. But for whatever reason, I'm giving this port a thumbs down, and am surprised to report that after wanting it for so long, I'm not buying it. And with that I hereby deposit $0.02
  16. Ooh, Bank Heist is sweet. Still trying to find a CIB copy of that one.... But my recommendation for that website is Cakewalk. Doable with the keyboard, fun, strange. And too expensive to reasonably buy on cartridge.
  17. Yeah, I don't really get the point of this, though the guy is entertaining. In some aspects, he's got the worst of all worlds, with the select / start buttons and the joystick ports on the back of the machine. I think he'd have been better off video modding a 2600....
  18. I'm shocked by the lack of love for Crossbow! You guys is crazy! In no order, my favorites for 7800 would have to be: Galaga Crossbow Food Fight Joust Ninja Golf Robotron 2084 Moon Cresta Dig Dug Ms. Pac Man Double Dragon
  19. Had an A+ transaction with ManCaveArcade, highly recommended! Got a box from him in great shape, shipped fast, looks amazing. Plan to do business with again!
  20. Great guy to deal with, highly recommended! Box is absolutely top notch quality, I am really glad I got one and had a great dealing experience with ManCaveArcade. Am eager to see more examples of his work!
  21. Yeah, they did precisely that with the X-Men game, including the option of playing the Japanese game. Very, very nice translation, I'm hoping the Simpsons is as good. I've been too busy to fire up the 360 and find out just yet... anyone else get it? Reviews pls!!
  22. Yeah, I agree with the posts saying that if you're making over $20k at this it's clearly a real business and you've got to have your docs in order... But PayPal needs to be deducting _their_ fees. As well as Ebay's listing fees (since they're the same company now). It's lazy, harmful and inaccurate of them to throw out the gross sales number by itself when the other numbers are at their fingertips. At the very least, they need to give you a quick total along with that 1099 form.
  23. I'm totally down for it, but why on a Thursday? Oh well. I liked what they did with TMNT, I'm hoping they'll at least HD up the graphics. And sure, I have it for mame. But I'd rather play it with my wireless 360 controller on my couch. The Simpsons Arcade game was definitely repetitive, but it was sure fun.
  24. It's such a dirty shame that such a great looking product has to be so completely messed up. I am also glad I didn't pre-order, thank all of you guys who posted about your experience. I will be pulling for you to get a refund through PayPal! And for RedSpot Games to get their act together.
  25. And just in case you can get one... I prefer the 2 to the 2 + as the 2 has River Raid and Pitfall!, and I believe the 2+ does not, and replaces them with sports titles.
