  1. Mine came in today-Defiantly worth the time it took to set up the old home-theater system. First time I have cranked the sub-woofer. Nice work, Kudos.
  2. Thanks, I'll update the video next time I'm logged in.
  3. Yup, that looks right to me! Thanks for the info & link! I'll have to see what I can do with it now. Maybe I can find a better use than a prop to keep my macro-keyboard up a little higher!
  4. First off, I know the is very bad. It was posted a while ago, and Youtube has diminished the quality, along with I just wasn't all that good at filming, nor knowledgeable at the time. I consider myself a little more versed in hardware since I acquired this two years ago, but I'm still stumped. I don't have a camera with which I can re-record a video, and it's been bothering my lately that I could rebuild my compaq portable, but still don't know what this does. To add a little info to the video: All other cards are the same, they run off an AC current. Each has an individual power switch, a female db25 connection. It has two phone connections with all four lines connected, so it's not JUST for data use, I presume. It can power the lines too (or feed off a power connection?) The LEDs are labled TM AA HS OH SD RD TR CD. Thanks for your time -Spence
  5. It might help if you let people know what the game is called or provide some screenshots of it, if you don't know. Well, now I feel like an idiot. I was running it on the Puppy Arcade, and running that from a flash-drive install. I went to grab a screencap, and the flash-drive is now corrupt or in need of formatting. If I can recover the ROM, I'll post a screenie. I knew using a flash-drive as a primary shortened their life...but I didn't think I'd loose it this quickly. Hopefully it's something easy to fix...or I have a backup of the ROM somewhere.
  6. I am actively trying to track down the original author, in hopes there's already an NTSC build out there.
  7. I'm new to the home-brew editing/writing type people. I've been playing them for years, just not working on them. I would presume these are problems that have been confronted at some point, so linking to forums threads are acceptable answers. I dug up a home-brew ROM that is only available in a PAL format. I've been running it in Stella, and it is no big problem. Large margins on the top and left of the screen, but no walking or anything. I am thinking of putting a cart together for this, to use on a real system. It's an NTSC system. I am not expecting this to work as well in this setting. Is there any easy conversion process to get the ROM from PAL to NTSC, or does it need re-coded from scratch?
  8. I don't know if you're looking for OSs that have been produced in the past five years, but I found some Easter eggs in Linux Mint. I haven’t run Mint in years, so I don't know if there are new versions, if so, I don't know if they are included. While booting from a live CD, hold the power button. The scrolling text un-bolds, you get some ascii animals with famous quotes in speech bubbles. I'll see if I can find a screen shot anymore.
  9. You had to connect the 830 through an 850 (or I think there were 3rd party options). You'll need appropriate software (like Telelink cart which came w/ 830). I've never actually tried it though due to lack of a landline. Well, I've got the landline, and the phone, more parts than I do for the 5150. Thanks for the info, would have been disapointed to gather an 800 and an 830 to only find I need one more part...Hopefully, If I do find everything, there's some server comaptibility.
  10. What all is required to get a computer online over an 830? If I found myself an 800 system, and a dial-up connection to work over, is there any chance of success, as shown above? I'm sorry I don't know much of networking prior the early 90's.
  11. Oh man, That's a thing? Atari made them? I have a new quest! How did I not know about this? Top three things to attain: -that -520ST(or something to drive my SC1224, I want to see it in action) -IBM 5150(This is getting pushed farther down the list, I may just sell the keyboard now that I have a compaq portable...there's only so many uses for older DOS machines) Thanks for uploading! Edit: By the way, I have the same red phone XD
  12. Just missed one on ebay... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220884887972 Too bad I couldn't get my paypal account up in time...
  13. Uhh, thanks all! From here I can at least make it to the Wikipedia page! I guess this thread can die now. Thanks again!
  14. Does anyone know if there is a name applied to the modem connectors you set an actual phone receiver on, to connect? I've been nonchalantly looking since I saw the one in war games at 0:43 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAcEzhQ7oqA years ago, and I've been actively looking to acquire one since I saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9dpXHnJXaE I know older phones and various other bits of tech have adopted names, like the "candle stick" style phones. Any generic umbrella identifying names for theses? More specific models? Has anyone seen one for sale recently? ANY other info about these units would be appreciated! Thanks -Spence Edit: (fixed text positioning around videos)
  15. Thanks for the help! I'll continue to watch ebay now that I have a bit more of an idea what I need. While looking, I didn't see anything regarding single or double sided drives. I can't really say I was watching out for it... Thanks for the info. I've noticed some of my disks are labled double, and some single, but I never stopped to consider drive limitations. If there's a drive built in, I'm not that concerned about utilizing the ones I currently have. I can just set them out have have them around looking pretty. I am relatively new to gathering any of this, I have none of the systems you mentioned, either compatible, or non. I may have to look in to making this screen work with something a little more generic to today's standards (while still being cautions not to kill it) until then, as I said above, I'd just like to see it in action. Blank slate. Which ever system I can find, I'll find games to fit it. I'm sure there's enough for either system to be amusing.
  16. I wasn't going to do a post on this until I gathered all of the pieces, and had the functioning system...but I need some help. I recently came in to two sf354 floppy drives, and a functioning SC1224 screen. I don't really know what's compatible with it other than a 520st (thanks to searching through google-images, and finding one attached to my screen) I don't really know what other computers are out there, or compilable with this screen. Some suggestions as to what I am looking for to use with the screen, and the drives would be appreciated. I would be equally thrilled if an adapter exists to use the screen with something else, even a 2600 output would be amazing. I have yet to see anything close to an adapter for this screen. I just really want to see this screen in action. I have been looking on and off for a few months now. I am seeing a lot of conflicting sites. While I appreciate all contributions to my query, Please specify if you own or have owned any of these devices and are speaking from first hand knowledge. This is why I'm here. In my searches, I have found someone selling some 1020 printers. Are there compatibility limitations with these? Software necessities? I've seen some sites claiming they are plug & play, but Google searches are filled with sites offering drivers :\ I'm considering buying one in anticipation of finding a functioning system. I was looking for a dot-matrix, but I'd settle. Would a 520st play nice with everything else I have/plan to get? Is there a better system I should be hunting? Thanks in anticipation for putting up with another newbi's post. -Spence
  17. I bought a SNES at a garage sale, went out looking for games, stumbled upon a complete 2600 and handful of games. I've gotten several people addicted to the system. I had to reinforce my emulator's case for all of the traveling it's doing.
  18. -8°f...I had to scrape the ice off my windshield this morning...off the INSIDE!

  20. I've probably been working on this system for a month by now. I'll go into more detail on parts below. The system is running Ubuntu 10.10, it auto-launches Stella on boot. The problem is, Stella isn't properly entering full screen. In windows, when Stella enters fullscreen, Stella literally utilizes the 'full screen'. In Ubuntu, when Stella enters full screen, it stays the same size, and blacks out the rest of the screen, only utilizing the original area it was in. I was wondering if anyone else uses Linux, has noticed this, and/or has a solution. System Story: Please forgive me for the potential misuse of the acronym "MAME" in the title. The system can potentially use original controllers in an emulated environment. I thought it close enough to the true definition. I've become quite addicted to the homebrew 2600 games I am finding Atari Age members coding. I've had several PC components laying in my possession for a while. A late 90's Western Digital 8gb hard drive and a motherboard I thought was dead. I began to scrap it for parts. With a little effort and some new caps, I got it running again some time after. It has no BIOS battery nor buzzer, but all the better. Without a battery, I didn't need to worry about installing a power button to the case. It's running on about 100mb of DDR2 RAM. For practical use, it works fine. When the VGA is directly connected to a screen larger that 50 inches...the integrated graphics that barely display Windows 2000, RAM, and Pentium 4 proc all start to struggle a bit. It's fuel for a little lagging. To protect the performance, I usually run the system through a scan converter to lock in at lower resolution, and allow me to play on my B&W 12" screen. The system is controlled by a 'hacked' keyboard. If you've been reading the forums for a while, you might remember my post while constructing the board. I installed a DB9 port to the back, so Stella can be controlled by any capable 9 pin controller. Update to that, I devoted the arrow keys and right shift as player two. I'm planning to install a second DB9 port. The rest has been discussed, I will not go into it. This was all fine an dandy, but the system needed a case. I was about to go construct a Plexiglas case and liqued cool it, but my friend offered a good bit of Legos. After constructing countless devices I'd pretend worked as a kid, the kid inside me could not turn down the opportunity to make one ACTUALLY WORK. I have a jail cell door next to the proc heat sink fan for intake, and access to the fan plug that frequently falls out. I have a window for access to the PS2 mouse port that is unneeded unless I am doing some maintenance (the window lights up green thanks to the networking LEDs) and a red door that hides USBs and the Ethernet. If anyone is familiar with newer PCs, and could tell me the purpose of the separate 2x2 power connection going from the power unit to the the motherboard color coded yellow and black, I'd appreciate it. If it's something now useless like a BIOS battery charger, or a backup clock connection, I'd like to get rid of it. Keeping that connection is limiting the places I can put the power unit, and is annoying in transport. Eventually pictures and video of this will surface. I hesitate to post anything until I'm sure I am done. I'd like to get the full screen problem fixed, along with acknowledge any suggestions anyone could have to improve the system before I deem it "done". Thanks! -Spence Edit: One picture for now. http://silntdoogood.webs.com/DSCN0381.jpg Suggestions?
  21. Glad I'm not the only one that thought this was a very foreign mod. (Side note: I have the same red joystick, one of the best out there, kudos on the find!)
  22. I think I have two of the towers you have crammed in the corner of the third image. XD
  23. Much better this time around! Being one of the most famous fight scenes in cinematographic history, I must ask, is this guy ( ) The guy from the aptly dubbed "Worst Fight scene ever"?
