Right. Unless there's damage to the controllers, a good cleaning is all that's required. There are tutorials all over the net. If you can weild a screwdriver and read, it's pretty easy.
-
Not to degrade my own thread any lower than it already is, but ... Old folks need lovin', too. Albeit, a bit more carefully.

No, you are 0 for 2. The correct answer is "friend, Madaracs' mom".

I've been aware that the ADAM emits EMP when powered off. What portion of it does this? Does the CV do it also?
-
Yep. I'munna do what Yurkie says. Just as soon as I get off my ___ and do it.

I'm trying to determine if I need to rebuild my power switch. It feels a bit stiff, as if possibly the grease has dried. I'm not experiencing any power issues though (bad video, etc.). Thoughts?
-
Only one, but I've bought other systems and components, no hassle. I was speaking of my ebay experience in general.
-
Wow. I haven't bought a whole lot from ebay, but what I have gotten has been as advertised. But I'm also relatively discerning about my purchases. I'll look at an interesting item and examine the seller's score, talk to the seller, and compare cost with similar auctions. I've only had 1 almost bad experience, and that was because the seller didn't get a tracking number, and it took over a month for the package to arrive. But, it did arrive and in described condition. All in all, my ebay experience has been good. The way you guys talk about it it's like they are all out to get you.

What's considered a decent percentage of nonfunctional consoles?
-
Opportunity to buy a N64. Almost perfect cosmetic shape, including no dust. Fully functional. Includes: Console 1 Controller All cables NO game pack Super Mario 64 Starfox 64 Cruisin USA Wrestlemania 2000 Killer Instinct Gold Star Wars Shadows of the Empire Duke Nukem Zero Hour WCW Revenge Rainbow Six All games work and are in great cosmetic shape. How much is it worth?

I see from your profile that you're 46. Alter ego?

I'm sure that by her age she's aware the dangers of entering a gamer nerd forum. Besides, she could probably kick all of our nerd asses on a whim.

5-11under, thanks for the props!

So ... I accidentally ran into a matching cover for my CV on eBay, but I think they're asking way too much ... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220634634429 It would be perfect though. Switching subjects a little ... Got my CV power supply tonight. Plugged it in and it's up and running too.

I haven't had any more update requests in the last couple days, so I'll consider that after I've added "danger of static" to the guide, it will be complete. Is this something that you guys think should be stickied, lest it be lost to the rubble of past threads? Or does it suck, and is the same as the thousands of others out there on the Interweb, and you guys are just too nice to tell me I wasted my time?

Uh, huh ... 2 questions ... Does the person getting rid of the controllers get anything from Best Buy? If you get to go fishing, do they charge you? As Best Buy is a for-profit, I bet they give a little to the donators, and charge a lot for the buyers.
-
Interesting ... I'd like to see it when you get it. What was the impetus?
-
Hey hey ... Those folks were cool back then. I do think it would be neat to find some of them are AA members. Then we could vicariously experience what it was like to do that sort of stuff. However, I'm sure most of those folks were merely actors, and couldn't care about the product they represented than the money it put in their pockets.

Same here. I was hitting one of the local GWs near me (5 mins from my house ), and saw the same stuff. $4/ea for commons. On another note, I went to a new GW Computer/Book store that recently opened. I went in and saw what I expected ... relatively recent technology. I inquired with the manager if they had any older stuff. He told me that when GoodWill gets the "older stuff", they generally bin it up and send it for recycle. While not necessarily a revelation, it was actually shocking to hear him say that. With that in mind, I'm also coming to the realization that GoodWill is no longer what they started as, the benevolent helper of the poor. Yes, their stuff is still cheaper than retail, but their prices have gone up. I don't think they can blame economy much either, considering they don't pay for the merchandise they sell, so they've got to be making a killing.

Seems when I look around on eBay, all I see are 7800s with 2600 games. Maybe a couple 7800 games mixed in. What is a good starting price for a 7800 (just the system and components)? I'm thinking I might just want to get a 7800, and build up the games myself. Are there any multi carts like the 2600 Harmony cart, for the 7800?
-
Very right. I actually meant to add that into the guide. I'll wait a while to see if anyone else has ammendments, then I will update the guide.
-
So how many might you think are still alive today?
-
IMO, definitely the easiest, albeit a pain if you don't want to keep it that way. But you could almost as easily build an adapter with 2 9-pin connectors (1 M, 1 F) for less than $5 I'm a lefty, with 2 lefty parents. But I grew up in a righty world, and learned to do many things right-handed. That includes playing video games and using computers.

I was bored tonight. After dinner, not much to do but watch kiddie shows with my children. I decided that I'd create a guide to CV disassembly, based on my *limited* experience. A Guide to Disassembling the ColecoVision.pdf Please take a look and let me know what you think. Constructive comments and critiques are welcome.

I recently read that approximately 2 million ADAMs were produced, many less than Apples or other models. Almost half of them were dead off the line, or shortly thereafter. That means there were only a few over a million that survived. Over the next 25 years, how many do you think might be left? What functionality issues did they have? Cancer? Heart disease? Dropped on the head when they were born?
