Welcome to AA! The old systems are quite sturdy. Put any new console in the attic for 20 years and I bet it wouldn't hold up nearly as well. I bet your old controllers could be refurbished easily.

Funny / Stupid / Crazy / Lame Auction Listings

Because social science says people will pay more just to be like everyone else. That's why we have places like Abercrombie and Fitch, The Gap, and Gucci. "You has a Combats? Then I must has a Combats, now matter how much it costs!" -

Never mind. I looked it up. Never knew it was there! -

Where? I've opened quite a few of them and have never seen a discernable fuse. -
systems you sold/passed up and regret

Not strictly a game console, but my clone XT computer. It was the PC I'd connected to BBSs on, and had built up a huge collection of DOS games on it. It was reliable and ran from 1986 to 1994 daily without problems. Though I loved it, I chucked it a few years ago because I needed space. Stupid. -
should I get a 1st gen PS3? for how much?
SlowCoder replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Sony Playstation 3
The phat PS3 was like an old school Cadillac. A big beast of a machine, but it had style. The slim lost that style, and looks like a toy. If I thought it was worth the trouble and money, I'd have fixed my phat instead of getting a slim. -

1. When my PS3 40g YLOD'd, I was able to eject the disc by holding down eject while powering on the console. 2. Mine died after running long hours of Netflix almost nightly for 3 months. 8 hours a night. I'd had the console 3 years before that, and it ran perfectly. 3. I also recommend getting a PS3 slim and PS2 separate units. If one dies, you'll still be able to play the other. 4. They have stands that could allow your PS2 to sit vertically, if space concerns you. 5. My PS2 slim that I got as soon as they went to $110 is still running great. Avg 10 hours play time a week. Just do my best to keep the dust and grime out. (Now that I've said that, it'll croak tonight.) -
If I understand your question correctly, it should be fine to just put the Jr on top of the TV, no extra shielding required.

Those chips are called "character lines", much the same as a scratch or dent is part of the personality of an older car, and makes it unique. Those who may look upon it might say it's a beater, and some who have owned it say it was loved. The green "trim" is actually just the part that says "Tele-Games" above the cartridge slot. What you have there is a light sixer. PFL is correct about the round slots. They are speaker vents. Before production, the internal speaker idea was removed in lieu of playing through the RF. But they left the original mold with the vents. This is a bonus for us, because a few of us (not me yet) have modified our Ataris to include internal speakers or build LEDs into them.

Interesting story indeed! Was it just your store that did that? I personally like the look of the Sears model better with its silver and green trim, but I'll take an Atari any day! Is yours a light or a heavy? Betting a light, since you got them in the 80s.

Need screen shots of Adventure on black and white TV set

Or take a pic and convert to B/W? -
Probably a Sears pong console?
-
I currently have my Pong, 2600, CV, IntV, NES, SNES, N64, and soon my TG16 connected to my cart TV. The RCA connected devices run through a switchbox. The RF connected ones ... unfortunately I still have to manually swap cables. But the setup is compact and mobile.

That is nasty, disgusting and gross, all at the same time.

I also have a bunch of systems. I'm not actively searching for games right now unless I happen to remember them from kidhood. I have enough games for each system to feel happy where I am. Now I'm just sort of allowing them to come to me.

Intellivision Adaptor For The Colecovision?
SlowCoder replied to Tempest's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Oh, I'm sure someone, somewhere has a patent that would cover it. But unless it sure to actually make them money, they probably won't jump on it. -
It's a digital connection/button. Must have been pretty dirty not to work.

I only ever saw dongles for high powered or expensive apps like AutoCAD. Did they come with games too?

Ugh ... Another thread that reminds me just how old I am! Seriously, though ... the excuse that someone wouldn't consider playing a console older than X is simply limiting their understanding of what a good game is. They've been sucked in by the "what's cool today" syndrome, and may be afraid to leave their comfort zone and try something different. Maybe they think because it's only 8-bit it's a lot harder. Kind of like Windows XP vs. DOS ... and that's scary to them. Not funny scary, ... "I don't want to look ignorant" scary. On the other hand, maybe they just aren't interested because 8-bit isn't capable enough for them. Like not wanting an older car that drives like a dream, but doesn't have power windows or A/C.

1. Is the TV an LCD /LED? If so I'd guess some sort of NTSC timing problem. 2. Either the shield is pushing on a component, or is shorting.

Video games help with reflexes and mental strength (problem solving and critical thinking) They are good for spending time with family and friends. Something fun to talk about. They don't classically contribute to good physical fitness and hygiene. Contrary to media hype, they are not the devil. While they can piss you off at times, they don't turn people into serial killers or rapists. Are a major factor in late nights and groggy mornings, and the occasional "late to work" syndrome.
