Funny / Stupid / Crazy / Lame Auction Listings
SlowCoder replied to nofrills100's topic in Auction Central
Yeah, that's pretty sneaky. Worthy of reporting, in my opinion. -
Who here in the Intellivision Brotherhood
SlowCoder replied to atari5200dude82's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Buhahaha! ... ouch ... my side! LOL, Im now the resident inspector? hahahahahahaaaaaaaaa Actually, my incredulous laugh was for the "... and Cmart as the expert of all things related to the games consoles and accesories." I think I now have a hernia. -
What you're missing is, that idiots like me who don't know anything about auctions or collector's rates, fall for it on a nostalgia-infused impulse. I know better now, but I'm absolutely positive that I overpaid for my consoles. Although, at the moment I was ready to shell out $500.00 for a Master Component just for the thrill of owning one again, and was surprised to find them for around $250.00 -dZ. Uh ... where do you shop? A bare IntV Master Component, unless I missed something, would only cost about $20ish.

Exactly the point I was about to make. When I buy a used game from GS, I investigate the game box and manual, and play swapsies until I get something in good condition. Sometimes I have them bring me out 2-3 discs before I find one that's not all scratched up. I've even been told it's against their policy to allow me to look at the disc before purchase. To that I tell them if they want a sale, I want to see what I'm buying. I will never order a disc based game online from them, and I'd be very wary of even cart based games.

Intellivision with 18 games (most boxed with overlays) *reduced*
SlowCoder replied to willis's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
If Dreadnaught is worth that much, then maybe you should pull it out and sell separately. You could try to validate its value by asking in the Classic Gaming > Intellivision forums here. As for the rest of it, I got my hands on a IntV with about 20 games, some CIB, for $35+shipping from a well-known guy here on AA. Not trying to rain on your sales parade, just trying to help. -
Full release? It's all in the positioning of the thumb.

Please fill in the blanks. There is no shipping info in the description. -
Glad they took care of you.

How many backup consoles do you keep?
SlowCoder replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You make a good point. I just prefer to have my backups now, rather than rely on market availability and pricing later when/if a console fails. Each of my backup systems is prepped and ready to play right out of the box. Another thing I use my backups for is the very infrequent times I need to take one somewhere. I don't have to worry about disconnecting the ones I already have hooked up. -

I'm in the same boat. Wouldn't mind having a top loader myself, but I'm not going to spring for one on eBay, and I have never seen one in person. I have 4 NES101s (front loaders). -
I think this will drive prices up for the consoles they sell for. Not a good thing for this community. But it may have the benefit of reopening the world of retro gaming to folks who previously left it behind. As far as refurbishing, I think that's a joke. I've bought and looked at refurbished consoles from them before. Functioning, but not cleaned up, dirt still in the crevices, etc. I've seen them sell consoles that apparently worked, but we obviously on their last legs. I went put looking for a GC in my town. I had to travel to 4 stores, opening 10 "refurbished" boxes before I found onethat wasn't beat to heck, with a non-depressed eject button, and with a 1st party controller that wasn't worn out.

That's as good a story as the "includes free cup holder with every PC" thing.

@stardust4ever - Want to test your cleaning skills? Dare you to walk past the local police canine squad with that N64 in your hands. Was someone bashing smokers? I know we have smokers on this board, and I felt it necessary to make sure they know we still love 'em. Hearing some of the tales in this thread could hurt feelings. Sensitive, caring side of me, I guess.

The thing is, I don't think cigarettes change who people are. Good people smoke. Bad people smoke. Friends and enemies smoke. Don't count someone out just because of it. And, no, I don't smoke.

You know, these are hard decisions to make. I'd have to say that if I was stuck on a desert island and could only have one series and one game console, I'd have to go with 2600/Star Trek.

I don't collect boxed stuff, so I don't have the problem of not being able to soak a case in soap water and scrub the crap out of it. But I've had the same problem. Open a newly received box and get knocked over by the smell. Sometimes those items have gone to live in the garage until I could tear them apart to be cleaned. For the most part, I find that just letting parts soak in hot water with dawn for a couple hours, then a good scrubbing removes the smell.

Never stop 'paying' with playstation collections
SlowCoder replied to cimerians's topic in Sony Playstation 3
Yes, Weapons and bolts!! In a little less than a couple of weeks, I completed the entire first 3 episodes ... again. Episode #1 - Played all the way through in normal mode, then couple of levels of episode #1 in Challenge mode and finding they seem to have made it impossibly difficult. Not that it's not doable, but there would be HUGE amounts of grinding just to keep enough money to stay in ammo. Not worth the effort. Episode #2 - Played all the way through in normal mode. Didn't do episode #2 in Challenge mode, because, frankly, #2 was the worst of the lot in my opinion. Episode #3 - Played all the way through in normal mode, then all the way through again in Challenge mode. My favorite of the 3. Now I'm playing Tools of Destruction, and moving forward quickly. Gimme a few days ... Then it's on to Crack in Time. I've put the bug in wife's ear that I want All 4 One next, for some multi-player action! Hope it's worth it. -
My kids are better at games than me

It won't take long. Once he figures out how to manipulate the controller, you're doomed. -
FS: NES MARIO ADVENTURE IN A CART (NOW JUST 15.00 SHIPPED)
SlowCoder replied to A2600's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
When I look up Mario's Adventure, I get a bunch of flash games, or a SMB3 hack. Is this a homebrew? -

My kids are better at games than me
SlowCoder replied to marthbrightblade's topic in Modern Console Discussion
This is the fate that awaits us all. My (almost) 11 year old is moving up quick, and I can tell I am slowing down. While I'm still better than him at most types of games, he seems to be bypassing me on some of the Wii-style games like Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Bros Wii, and some of the Wii Sports games. I still get him in FPS, more realistic racing and strategy games, though. It won't be long, I'm sure. One thing I've noticed is that kids in his age group are only interested in fast action games, but not strategy games. Unless this changes for my kid, I'll always be able to kill him in games like Command and Conquer, or games that require actual use of the noggin to handle situations on the fly. -
The board is in a different case now, so the wire idea is out. I already tried a different PS, re-cleaned the contacts and checked all the components visually for any solder cracks. Since it seemed to be sporadic from the beginning, I'm kind of thinking it is an actual failing part that finally failed. I think I'm going to shelf this unit for a while and wait until I have another nonworking one and see if I can swap parts for better luck.

No go on the 10NES mod. Didn't change a thing. Other ideas?
