It's actually rather substantial. Thick plastic, and overall very well made in my opinion.

This is not a question of how many consoles you've collected, or what variety. I just want to know how many consoles you keep for backups. For instance, I typically keep one of each console type connected, and another one stored for the day when the first one dies. If at some point the main one dies, I'll swap it for the backup and buy another backup. But in the case of my CV or Intv, I have two backups due to their tendency to die. And in the case of my 2600s, I have one of each model, so they act as rotating backups for each other. So you see this thread is more about utility than collecting.

Not in my area. We only have a couple of sellers at our flea market. One of them is a total douche. If it plugs in and plays games, $30. Doesn't matter if it looks like it was run over with a dump truck. And the fact that they come without any cords, well that's the new wireless feature. All he ever has are 2600s, and I think I saw a Genesis in there once. The other seller seems cool, but I've done the whole "this is how much they ACTUALLY sell for," and they don't care. They figure all those $1 games will sell for $5 eventually. And, honestly, they probably will ... eventually, because there are people milling around their tables all the time. According to their story, they owned a store at some point and the stuff they're selling is stock from that. I've also walked into the only local retro games store with my phone and taken pictures of their stock, and looked up eBay pricing right in front of them. They just keep walking around and don't bother me unless I actually ask a question.

I thought the 10NES mod didn't have anything to do with the grey screen? But I have considered trying this if other options fail.

I got this is a stack of controllers. This particular one is a well-loved and played Sansui NES controller. My first non-Nintendo NES controller, and quite a nice one at that. It has a little weight to it which makes it comfortable to hold, and the buttons and D-pad are exactly the same size as the stock NES controller, making it quite easy to use. In fact, it appears that many of the internal parts are exactly the same. The turbo switches make playing Gyruss a lot easier to play. Interesting that they actually also included headphone jacks complete with volume control. I bet this controller went for a pretty penny in its hey day. I am impressed with it, and I recommend that you try to get one if you haven't already.

I'm finally getting back to cleaning the pile of "new" old consoles I've collected over the past few months. This weekend I pulled out a dirty ol' NES that needed some love. Got it all cleaned up, pulled the 72 pin connector and cleaned it up. Put it back in and the console would play some games, but not others. Pulled the connector back out again for more cleaning, reinstalled, and all I get now is the NES grey screen for all games I put in. Not even the blinking red light. First thought is maybe I did something to the connector. I put the connector into another console and it works perfectly. Put a known working connector into the troubled console, and still the same grey screen. Not even hitting Reset does anything. So it's not the connector. So I think something may have happened to the mainboard while I was working on it. I don't see any of the exposed components or traces that appear broken, and the console was working sporadically at first, so I think maybe it was just its time. Anything I can check?

Sounds like the stop on the pot is worn/stressed due to abuse. Other than the flex on the pot post, I can't see how one would wear out naturally without being overstressed. Probably time to get new controllers. Should be cheap, like less than $10 shipped.

Pretty well everywhere I go, I hear the only way to "fix" a worn out joystick is by replacing it. You can find replacement joysticks for around $10 online, which I don't really think is worth it unless you really want NEW. Otherwise, for about the same price, maybe a little more, you can just buy a replacement controller. The main problem appears to be that the dome inside the joystick gets worn out, very rough and uneven. If I knew the proper ball diameter of the dome I thought maybe I could coat the dome with a layer of resin/epoxy and insert a carefully measured mold (marble?) to reshape the resin in the dome and create a new surface. As an alternative to using epoxy/resin I could make a "sacrificial lamb" of one controller joystick and have enough plastic to fix others by melting it into the mold. What do you think about this?

I may be interested in a few N64 titles, depending on price. PM'd for interest.

Now that you made it legend, you are NEVER allowed to remove the Emily sticker. For if you do, a great piece of history will be lost forever!

Duh. It's Poker/Blackjack. I win.

Yeah, a definite increase in interest over the last couple of months. It's great to see!

He doesn't have a NES. I wouldn't recommend a NES for "easy disassembly" due to the miriad of internal screws and relative complexity of the parts assembled once you open the case itself.

What is your favorite Burnout game?
SlowCoder replied to chrisballer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't know if there will be another burnout, but I hope the franchise isn't dead. If there is another one, and if the online is anything like Paradise, I'll be one of the early adopters. It's about the only game I can think of that was THAT FUN for me in online mode. -
Awesome job!

I'll be honest and admit the only one I've played was Paradise. Well, actually I do have one of the PSP games also, but don't remember which. I didn't play it much. The thing about paradise was the open world online play. Didn't matter where other players were, you could play with them or go out on your own. And if they wanted to play marked man and limit it to just "the quarry", well that made it that much more cool. After the first time through offline mode to get the cars, offline was boring. Just a lot of grinding to get the cars so I could play online. -

Never stop 'paying' with playstation collections

This I do not understand... they already released a pair of Compilations to cover this... and now a, "all in one" comp... if they need money this badly, why not just come out and start charging for access to the PSN, imo... it'd be less insulting. In essence you are correct. On top of that, GOW Saga only provides PSN vouchers for the PSP games, not the actual games on disc. -
I don't have any of the handhelds, but I believe all of the Nintendos you listed require a security bit to open. If you don't have, and don't want to get the security tools, that pretty much leaves the Genesis.
-
Haha! He'll show you his when you show us yours!
-
What consoles do you have available? Most of the common ones are simple to open with a Phillips screwdriver. 6 or 7 screws and the top pops right off. The SNES and N64 require a security bit, so you'd need the proper tool. The Colecovision requires a bit of finesse to open, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you really wanted to. Whatever you do, be sure to provided pics of the project.

In that case, $30 would be a very good price for each collection. -
When I play platform or single player 1st person shooters, I tend to be on the cautious side. I like to plan my moves and build up my strategies. I've been this way since I started playing computer games in the mid/late-80's. This weekend my two sons and I have been swapping the TV game time, all of us playing Ratchet and Clank. I've noticed, that while I'm methodical in my approach, taking my time to explore the surroundings, get as much money as possible, and preferably kill from afar. In contrast, my older son typically likes to charge into the fray, taking on battles and whipping booty melee style! My younger son is just now getting used to the platform/shooter. But he seems to be interested in exploration. So, what kind of platform/shooter player are you? Adventurer/Explorer - Like to explore and see what the game offers Warrior - Just here to fight. Point me in the direction of the next battle! Other - Explain
