  1. I was thinking just that, godslabrat, but I had no idea how to spill it. Great job!

War is hard to deal with. Most of the time it's due to someone getting bothered by a hair up their butt, and having nothing better to do with their day. Other times, it's useful, such as the establishment of human rights.

On top of that, I don't think this really affects the gaming hobby in any special way. Sure, Nintendo was named, and they make games, but I could say the same about cameras and cell phones.

  2. I think one of the very big things is how you take care of your system. Where the Jr buttons are relatively flush to the case, the older models stick out, making them prone to getting hit or crushed. You could use this to say the Jrs were built better, more ergonomically designed. On the other hand, they lack "Atari Style".

Also, maybe something to think about is that many of us were kids when we had our originals. We may have been rough and tumble around them. And in the time between the H6 and the Jr, most of us grew up (at least physically :P), and tended to take more care of our consoles.

  3. However there is one time I did explicitly cheat online.

Many years ago, when the original Rainbow Six was all the rage, I was pretty good. We weren't a clan, but I, and my team of friends would go online and kick butt against other "clans". In our rooms, cheating was explicitly forbidden. When we got cheaters, who usually used clip/wall cheats, we'd use it against them by setting up a sniper to take them out as soon as they got close to their cheat location. They'd get frustrated, curse a bit, and leave of their own accord after about 10 minutes of not being able to "ownz" us.

  4. Not sure if that is really cheating, but save states are normally a cheating tool, so I figured it counts.

I think I'd categorize what you're doing as practice. You're only using the game saves to practice, then will return to the console to play for real. Kind of like how a boxer practices before his championship fight! If you were actually using the game saves to win the emulated game, that would be cheating.

    'grinding'

"Grinding". Yes, that's it. Thanks! I don't mind a little grinding, but in my case with Ratchet and Clank, that's a hell of a lot of grinding. In that game, once you've passed a level, you can return, but you won't get nearly the amount of money again.

On the rare occasion I'm playing a game where the only object is to "finish" the game, then I'm almost guaranteed to cheat in one way or another if it's possible. Games like that are just for a quick "interactive experience" so what's the point of running around in circles and getting nowhere?

On the other hand, I never cheat if I'm playing a game for score.

I do my very best not to ever cheat to forward my career in any game, but in some games, there just seems to be absolutely no alternative. After 3-4 days of hitting a game, to the point of almost losing complete interest, it's time to cheat, just to move forward and enjoy the game again.

If it's a game meant for single-player enjoyment, play it how you like. It's your leisure.

.. and what? What's the controversy there. :P

While it's not my style, you'll get no controversy from me! :)

Games are meant to entertain us. If they fail to entertain, and only frustrate, then it's time to "fix" the problem.

  5. I'm not typically a cheater. But there are times I may do it to get hat one special weapon or tool. But only in special circumstances. For instance, I've played and beaten all of the Ratchet and Clank games multiple times over (3-4 times each). But I've never gotten the RYNO gun due to the outlandish price for the weapon. So, on my 5th time through Ratchet and Clank 1, I'm cheating, using a bug in the game to get enough money to get that much sought after RYNO. Normally, I'd have to play for weeks on already defeated levels just to get the money.

    What have you cheated for?

  6. A few years ago, I obtained slews of cart ROMs from the Internet for as many systems as I could find, even for systems I'd never even heard of, such as the ColecoVision and Intellivision. Soon after, I joined AA to rekindle my Atari 2600 childhood. After a few months hitting the 2600 forum hard, and hearing speak of other consoles, I started getting interested. Thus started my purchase and gaming of Coleco and Inty systems.

Because I grew up with the 2600, it is my love. But I have grown to appreciate the other systems, and give them game time, just about equal. I would consider my collecting to be general, without concentration on any particular console. Thanks to CMart and Rev, however, my Inty collection of games is 2nd in size (around 60), only trumped by my Atari 2600 games (around 120). Measly, I know, but I'm happy. :)

  7. I'm not so much into rarities. If I play a game on a flash cart and enjoy it, I will very likely buy the real cart if it isn't too expensive. My cap for any single cart would probably be $10-15. I'd have to REALLY want it for some reason to even consider going any higher.

  8. You are in the right. And I think that you should perhaps post a link to this thread to show what people think of this transaction. Potential customers can be lost by this type of shenanigans. As long as you haven't omitted any important information from us, so that we can make sound judgements ourselves, they can get a real view of how these hi-jinx hurt them.

  9. apparently there is a mod that will it play Atari standalone AND with the ColecoVision.... can't remember where I saw it though.

    It's here: http://www.atariage....-module-switch/

Oh... maybe not exactly what you were thinking of... .

That's the exact mod *I* thought of ...

Somewhere, there's also a mod for making the Expansion 1 standalone. I believe it outputs to composite. You'd have to supply it power, because as it is, it receives power from the CV.

    Edit: Ah, here it is.

  10. So, er ... Origin is trying to cash in on the Atari name? Not being critical, but what I see there is what should be Atari all over, but someone else's name.

If it actually said "Atari" on it, it would be cool, indeed.

  11. After two clear emails explaining exactly what the situation was in 5 days, and posting to their facebook Lukie finally wrote back:

I do apologize for any delay in response. I?m not sure why the previous message was missed. As stated the lot was for broken systems. The lots are created by randomly choosing the items from a bin of broken systems and there are to be used for parts or repaired. This lot was not misrepresented.

At this point I would consider this to be a scam.

Yes, I agree. As you said, their description indicated "broken" systems, not "incomplete" systems. They should definitely rectify this with you. Been a few days, but I don't remember reading anything in the auction about missing parts.

  12. What IS the whole HEX disc thing about anyway? Sorry I just never heard about this............

    :-o

Small, hex shaped metal discs that were originally stuck to the tops of the H6 controllers. They easily fell off due to the rubber stick. To find one is to see Heaven for a day. Definitely worth bragging rights.

  13. @Macgoo (I'm not going to quote that whole post)

I believe what AtariLeaf was getting at is that your statement was very un-thought out, and it appears you think that Wii owners don't want to play on anything else. I bet that if you took a poll, you'd find that most Wii owners on this board have multiple game systems, including the XBox 360 or PS3. Also, you seem to consider any controller that provides less than perfect feedback is not a "real game controller". We're also not arguing whether the technology is old or new. I'm sure the tech is a great improvement over the originals you spoke of, and you should be willing to give it its due.

If you only want to play your "real games" on "real controllers", then please do, and I'll be happy that you're able to do so. But remember that in a few years, your "real games" and "real controllers" of today will seem like "toys", even in your eyes, because the new tech of the day will blow them away in responsiveness and efficiency.

  14. but I see the current shutter-glasses-are-back trend going away pretty quickly.

Gosh, I hope so! I've tried these things in the store, and I don't see what's so great about them, or 3D TV in general. On top of the price, the glasses are one thing I know I wouldn't want to deal with on a daily basis. Once I got over the whole "wow, 3D!" thing, which honestly wouldn't take long, they'd probably just get shelved and my TV converted back to 2D.

  15. Different controller for different games is a thing that seems to be only for gamers. The person that picks up a game every now and then could care less for that stuff. You really need to be into a certain kind of game to justify the extra cost of the special controller for a type of game. I have a fight stick for fighting game, and I've had a few wheels but they never work right for what I want. Most people I know have the standard controller that works well enough for everything.

I would be ok with a keyboard and mouse working with the next consoles for FPS games. The arguement that it creates an unfair advantage for some if crap. Play with what suits you best and there is no advantage. The next consoles should be more computer than console anyway, so lets get it right this time.

This whole post is excellently thought out, and I am in 100% agreement. Some controllers are better than others for certain types of games, OR for person playing the games.

  16. The NES adapters work by receiving RF signal from your console. If the signal is sufficient strength, it auto-switches to the console. Unfortunately, the 2600 can't supply a sufficient signal to trigger the switch.
