- I don't subscribe to Virtual Console. - I DEFINITELY do not use Vista, and only use Windows 7 when I absolutely have to. I am a Linux user. - I don't watch NCIS, but it's free, so I don't see how it matters. But, I will sometimes buy movies or shows I enjoy watching. I DO NOT enjoy having to rerent anything I want to watch multiple times. - I don't listen to Motorhead, and for that matter, I haven't bought any music CDs in the past 5 years. I have all I need, and anything I want to play on my iPod or phone, I import from my CD collection. I have an extensive library of classic DOS games I enjoyed as a kid, and, yes ... I play them. I am not a collector. I am still a gamer. My games are not in nice packages. I have them out, and available for play, and my kids grubby little fingers are all over them.

Best Electronics or replacement joysticks off eBay?
SlowCoder replied to mattbuc16's topic in Atari 2600
Have you taken them apart to see what's up? Very possibly you could put the good parts back together and have 2 or 3 fully functional controllers. I don't have "bins" of controllers, but I have 5 Ataris, each with it's own set of controllers, and a couple extra. Maybe half of them had problems when I got them, but by swapping parts, I might have had 2 nonfunctional "parts" controllers in the end. -
Constructive questions and criticism: Tell me how much greater the portability is? The fact that it has bluetooth really means nothing to me. The big thing that would keep me from getting it is the lack of the UMD its sisters have. I have quite a number of UMDs for my PSP. To have to pay for them again would be ludicrous. And, no, I wouldn't be willing to trade them for a license to install a free copy on a Go. I don't know if that's even an option. AND ... eventually Sony will stop supporting downloads for the PSP Go. It may be a while, but it will happen. No more games at that point. What you have at that point is what you will have. Then you can do nothing with it but hold down your papers. Meanwhile, I'll have my UMDs, and will be able to buy more as time goes on. Nah, PSP Go is not for me.

Atari Force Comics - all 21 Issues in PDF available
SlowCoder replied to ThumpNugget's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I give up. Thanks for trying. My download is stuck at 32% and won't budge no matter what settings I try. I hate torrent. Torrent has its place, in cases where the item is popular. In this case, we might need some help from our friends. I think I'm up to about 41% after 2 days. Those of you who have successfully downloaded in the past, would it be possible to seed for a while so the rest of us can enjoy? Once I've downloaded, I'll be happy to seed for a while. -

0 seeds. It came down fine for me, quickly too. I already had it, but I wanted to test to make sure before I posted about it. This comes up all the time. Just because a torrent is dead to you and your settings or whatever, doesn't mean it's really dead. You could become a subscriber, then download it officially and quickly directly from this site! Just sayin'! It's a great deal anyway to support a great site! Yeah, it's downloading. For those interested, I'll seed overnight, and maybe for a couple of days. -
Boxes are not my style. I have better ideas for what to do with my storage space. I don't mind having a bunch of loose carts. I also don't collect label variations. Just not that interesting to me. My primary interest is to have the games available for play. And, no, I'm not gonna spend a bunch of cash on any single game. Not just to say "hey, lookie what I got!" Also, I basically think in the line of ... the commons are the best to collect anyway, because they are primarily the best play value. From what I've read, most of the uncommons are junk titles that didn't sell well ... because they were junk. With that, I guess you can put me in the "gamer" category.

Court Ruling Threatens Used Game Sales
SlowCoder replied to Mendon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I agree with what most of you are saying. However, as I stated in another thread, we are seeing changes in technology. Games are starting to come out, only available for download. Over time, there will be a higher percentage until they completely get rid of tangible media. Everything will be download only. This will put all of the brick businesses out of business. Take a look also at the primary target gamers. Kids. Kids who will not know what was like, to actually own your media. They simply wont care. Unfortunately this will be a much greater percentage of people than those of us who say they will never buy a downloaded game. -
Unfortunately downloadable media will eventually become defacto standard. No more music on CD, games on disc. Nothing physically tangible. Sad, too. I prefer to touch the things I pay for. I have not yet paid tor anything I could only download on my ps3. But there are download-only titles out there, and over time the percentage will increase until local retailers are out of business. Then all that will be left is downloadable content. When you purchase DL content from companies like sony, they typically allow your account to dl a number of times. I'm pretty meticulous about recording my passwords. But I'm sure the majority of people who butnonline don't properly record their acct passwords, and they don't have to type it every time, so the passwords are eventually forgotten. Should their equipment die, and they have to reinstall, they can't. At least not easily. It's these people I'd want buying my products, because they'd have to create a new account and repurchase all that software. Ignorance here is the name of the game. Keep your customers ignorant and don't show them his to properly manage their accounts, and that's just more money for them.

Connecting all your systems to 1 TV
SlowCoder replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm no electronics expert, and I'm impressed with the knowledge of many of you on this board. How easy would it be to convert this circuit to auto-sensing? According to many of the Atari guys, the 2600 does not provide enough signal for some auto-switches like the Nintendo ones. Don't know if this circuit could compensate? -
What's a high score cart?

Interested in the system changer. Are they a rarity? Guess I'll have to wait until I can get a IntV 2.
-
Beautiful! I wonder, though. Bet that thin wood is fragile. Definitely more of a showpiece than an everyday player. Honestly, I think it would be extremely cool to provide a service of converting people's favorite games to wood. So, I'd for instance, send a copy of Space invaders to you. You'd pull the ROM and install it in a wood case. Simply burn a big Atari symbol on the cart front, and the name of the game on the front and end. Simple, yet elegant. Something I'd definitely display proudly.
-
Yeah, I have the one OldAtarian showed. And with the top intact. But I like yours because you have easy access to both your most used games and controllers. The one I have only stores them under the Atari, so I have to remove the console to get to anything. Judging by the wood grain on it, suspect it's a Sears model? I haven't seen a Sears 2600 in a long time, but I think that's what I remember it looking like. And about whether it looks good today ... I think it does. It's Retro. But I'm not stuck on everything having to be black and silver, as if I'm living on a space ship.

Deal sealed with revolutionika. I appreciate everyone's input, and may be visiting you later for more goodies!

Been reading more about the IntV. Noticed that there is some sort of lockout to prevent Coleco and some other 3rd parties from playing? Which versions of the IntV is the lockout present on? Is the lockout removable? Other than the Intellivoice, what other expansions are available?

Thanks to lgallair who's awesome cabinet happens to have a previously unknown Vectrex system to me (thanks an effin' lot, lgallair, for giving me something ELSE to spend my little allowance on ), I decided to take a look into it. Neat system! May not be color, but the gameplay looks awesome! Reminds me of the original SpaceWars on the PC. And the idea of the screen overlays is really cool too! I just noticed that there are no forums on AA dedicated to this system.

Picture isn't centered when using Exp module #1
SlowCoder replied to Mad Hatter's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Hey Yurkie, What's considered a good price? I picked one up for $12 shipped, but most of them on eBay seem to be going for $25ish+shipping, unless you get one with a CV. -

SlowCoder replied to Mad Hatter's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Just a question. Have you tried cleaning up the connectors on both the CV expansion slot, and the module? I'm not a video expert, but isn't there a signal (timing, maybe) related to RF that tells the TV how to properly display the image? -
Connecting all your systems to 1 TV
SlowCoder replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Haha! I showed the pic of your cabinet to my wife. Her response ... "That would be fine, as long as you put it in the computer room, and bought a big TV for it." Hells yeah! And, no, she wasn't joking. -
Interesting ... You'll accept working, crappy looking ... or ... non-working, good looking ... but not ones that are working AND good looking? Looking to weed the Atari population of defective plastic DNA?
-
Perfect! That's exactly what I needed to know.
