  1. I finished college debt free, and when I was done I just decided to stay that way. So far so good. I have never had, nor to I intend to have, a credit card. I have been able to pay cash for every car I have purchased so far as well. The side effect is I don't have a lot of credit, but I don't really have a lot of need for it either. I'll need it to buy a house, but a sizeable down payment will help with that too .
  2. I have a good friend that is big into sports cards. Talking about cards with him the other day reminded me of these Donkey Kong trading cards I saw a while back. While looking into those I found Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, and Nintedo trading cards. This makes me think there were more out there. I have seen cards that looked like the belong to another arcade set or something that just didn't fit with the other listed collections. Oh, I think I found a set that was all from Dragon's Lair too. Anyone here into these? Am I missing any sets that I should be looking into? I am sure I'm going to pick some of these up sooner or later. If nothing else I do love me some Donkey Kong.
  3. I'm not sure about VB stuff. I like the console, I own the console, but I don't get into it much. Its a litteral pain in the neck to play. I got those bits for free when I placed a large order to build 2 MAME machines for some friends. They were instantly handy as I needed them to remove parts from the machines I was working on. I don't do much work on home consoles so I can't speak to that. I have become very interested in working on arcades and keeping these machines alive. The information to do this seems well protected and hard to find, not to mention very technical. I have looked into going back to school for electric engineering just for this, but the cost is just too high at this time. Maybe one day.
  4. Most carts I buy I get loose anyway. I have many boxes, but the cart is the main thing I look for. If they have a good selection of loose games and reasonable prices I might snatch up the common stuff that I normally pass on for shipping reasons. Who knows, there is a very good chance they mismanage this thing and it ends up costing them more than they make.
  5. Strange to me that people get so worried about being outed or having something snatched out from under them around here. I have never understood it. I think of myself as a pretty "into it" collector, but I just can't go so far as to worry about people conspiring against me when I win an eBay auction... just sounds too gamer mafia for me I guess. Nice pick up. I'm sure you can enjoy that for a long time to come.
  6. I picked up a set of bits from Happ Controls a while back that were great. Alas I believe my buddies wife may have thrown them out the night I left them over at his house. It was just the bits, no screw drivers and all that, but they were all well made and worked great. I'm sure I'll end up ordering another set soon enough.
  7. If you were a subscriber I would just tell you to edit the first post. Alas you are not so you can't edit that far back. At this point I'm pretty sure all the major players on the board know you are selling this, and probably know what you would take for it. Let it roll, or start a new thread for it, either way should really be ok.
  8. Like Benny said, some are rare because of the cost, some are rare because they are truely hard to find. I have a CIB Coleco Gemini that seems pretty rare in the "you don't see them" kind of way. In terms of things you find in the wild I have many rare items, and even more rare accessories.
  9. Not true. The Neo Geo AES is as close as you can get because it is the same thing. If you want to get even more invloved the CMVS would be even closer, as it is arcade hardware. The CMVS is custom work, so I'm sure it doesn't count in this conversation.
  10. The wanted sub-forum has done great things for me both selling and buying. I like that place the most. A sub-forum for MAO threads would be sweet. Those that like to make offers could just hangout there and stop making counter offers on everything people list for sale.
  11. A fully loaded Genesis would be an epic boat door stop. I love the system loaded like that, thats one I play a lot, but I don't think I can call it epic. Maybe an epic flop. Too many power cords unless you hit ax up for one of his amazing multi power cord deals.
  12. Then why not list this at $125 and avoid the conversation about what kind of offer to make on a custom item? I'm no economics major, but cost certainly has a bit to do with demand. I didn't list this at a set price because I was curious what the demand would be. With items like these, I enjoy doing them when I find the time, but if I was to ask the amount of money required to make it worth my time then nobody would ever buy them. As I said, I do enjoy doing them but I only need one for myself so my hope is to pass these items on to somebody who either lacks the ability or the time to do these sorts of things themself. Also, I'm realistic about what others will pay, especially for an item that is a novelty at best and isn't compatible with the entire 2600 library, but sometimes my realism give's way to cynicism and I tend to sell myself short. So... that's why I asked for offers. Also, I said that I would be willing to accept trades so I didn't feel a high priority to place a monetary value on this mod. I read another thread shortly after I posted this where there was a similiar complaint; I didn't realize that putting a make an offer item in the marketplace was frustrating to some. My apologies. Edit: Also, I read that some people were concerned with offending others with offers that are too low. For me personally, I wouldn't take a low offer as a slight against me but rather what you personally think the item is worth; not what my time is worth. In the end, I'm just thankful for the kind words that people have had to share and that anyone takes any interest in what I'm doing at all. I'm done rambling now, honest. Fair enough. When it comes to "make an offer" threads there are normally two groups for them. Make an offer because someone may offer more than I want for it, or make an offer becasuse I don't know what it's worth. It is very hard to make an offer on custom hardware because there is normally no established market value for these things. So people are going to have a hard time making an offer on this item. I'm willing to bet you would have declined an offer under $125 and been more then happy to take any offer over without mention that $125 would have gotten in. That is the reason people don't like "make an offer" threads. The best way to do this would have been to list it at $125, and say you would take trades as well. All this said, its nothing personal just one of those things.
  13. Getting them to work on a Windows machine in just stupid. Go for the 360 controller if you have a wired one. Much easier as they are Microsoft hardware. They just hook up and run. After trying to get a PS3 controller to run for about an hour I just gave up and picked up a cheap wired controller at a pawn shop. Problem solved.
  14. The ability to flip the rest of a lot to get what you want for free or at a reduced cost is a more advanced collecting tactic I think. You have to have your basics covered to use this as a way to collect. Done correctly you could, in theory, collect for free and who wouldn't love that. So, if you are just starting out, either buy lots you want most, if not all, of. The buying in lots thing really should come later of you might burn out too fast.
  15. $1 Bob. Maybe I can be closest to actual value without going over.

  17. Well several years ago my Sega-CD model 2 started etching a perfectly round scratch into discs. It was that the spindle was low. I would use a small flathead and bend it back up a little and it'd be good for a month or so. That was my main reason for starting to use burnt discs. It's not that we are hard on our machines or anything or have to even press the cd onto it for that matter. All I could figure was maybe heat from long hours of RPG's over the years was making the metal brittle in there. I have never heard of a Sega CD doing that, but I'm not really shocked either. That would seem to be a very rare problem with the Sega CD. The most common problems simply stop the system from working, and that is something I would be more concerned with. Even then, not playing it isn't going to help you in the end. If it is going to stop working it can do that sitting on the shelf just as easy as it can being played. The Sega CD is good like that. If you have the ISO for the game you can burn it and play it on your SCD, of you can just emulate it, and that is easier now than it ever has been. Just another thought if you are concerned about these things breaking down on you.
  18. On the average month its around $100 right now. I don't often find something I just have to have anymore, and when I do I buy it at flea markets and such. When I do find something I really want at a good price I will buy it, but that doesn't happen like it used to. I'm still missing enough random common games for most of my systems that I just look for people selling here and try to buy 10+ games at a time from that common list. Now, when I was really buying a lot, and getting a box or two in the mail everyday that spending was around $1500 a month. That was when sales at work were a lot better and the collection was a lot smaller. I can't afford that anymore, and I could use more room for the collection anyway. In those days travel was a big part of this too. I would drive 5 or 6 hours to pick up a new arcade machine or hit a new flea market atleast twice a month back then. These days I stay busy enough with the other things that go along with this hobby that I don't really need to spend time looking for things to buy. They will come to me soon enough and I have boxes of extra to deal with right now anyway . Good luck collecting, and start clearing a room in your house for your game room. You are going to need it sooner or later.
  19. I think putting some in the store would be a good idea. I can't see the online only thing really workinging for them. Those that shop for classic gaming gear online already know where to get the best deals on the stuff they want. If GS hopes to come in and change where people buy their games they need to price them better than the other places I can get games from. If they have the games in the store they can become an impulse buy for all those hipsters out there that just love to have classic gaming stuff around their house. They could also make a killing off those "classic gamers" that like to make suits or armor and toilets out of carts. I can't stand those ass-hats, but surely they would love to buy those carts from good ol' Game Stop. EDIT: Stepped off the sales floor and watched the video in that link just a secound ago. I don't like the guy in that video or his company much anymore. The "or the really old stuff your parents used to play" comment erked me pretty good.
  20. 2600 - really started it all NES - helped pull gaming back to life PS1 - really moved the bar IMO Everything that followed has these to thank for their success in my mind. There were great consoles in the middle of all this, and tons of great games, but these are the consoles that stand out to me as the ones that really made things move.
  21. this is a random question, but i really want to know, how do you make a signature on this website? you know how under your post it says "If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it." how did you do that? PM sent on that for you. Got to love a kid into classic gaming. Profile says 13 years old and owns a Vectrex. What a start! On that note, and more to the point of the thread, can one get a vectrex and enough games to enjoy it for $200? I haven't looking into one mostly due to the room it would take to keep it around right now, but also because I thought the costs would be Neo Geo stupid. I must look into this more it would seem.

  23. This is very nice looking indeed. I have no idea what to offer on a custom job like this. Anybody have a clue what the value on this is?
