This is getting interesting now. Time for the popcorn me thinks.

If you are playing for the score cheating ruins the game entirely. The save state thing I normally do just let me practice something over and over so I can improve on a challenging pattern without dealing with everything else. For example, the third elevator board on Donkey Kong. You can play through every board before it over and over just to die there over and over until you get it, or you can save the state at the start of that board and play it over and over again as a single board. It works.

I have used save states to practice the same level of a highscore game over and over again. For example, I have taken to playing a lot of Kung Fu on the NES lately. I have used an emulator to practice the 4th level over and over again (as the end boss gives me hell). In this way I can improve my skills on that level without having to go through the first 3 boards that are very easy to me at this point every time I want to practice. Not sure if that is really cheating, but save states are normally a cheating tool, so I figured it counts.

Red label Yars Revenge, standard, comic, and manual
HatefulGravey replied to AtariBrian's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Just found this, thanks for the shout out on this. Some how I miss stuff on here all the time. Debating the price, it is hard for me to find prices on these variant cart labels as looking up Yars Revenge anywhere only shows the standard price. I never see the prices for the different labels. I might send a PM on this,,, still thinking on it. -
Flipping through the 6 Atari Age magizens that came in today. Pretty sweet.

Time to Reorganize my Gaming Setup
HatefulGravey replied to godslabrat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
At the moment I live in a 2 bed room apartment. My bed room is the only room in the house that isn't "gamed out" as people often put it. The living room housed the MAME machine, 360, PS3 and Wii. All of those stay hooked up and ready to roll. The 2nd bed room has 2 CRT tvs that each have 2 consoles hooked up at all times. The 2600 and NES on the first screen, and the Sega/CD/32x (or recently just my JVS X eye) and anything I happen to want from the shelf for a while. This shelf is a book shelf covered top to bottom in consoles on top of boxes with controllers and wires for the console in them. To the left of that shelf are 4 more covered in all my games. This set up only barely works right now and wants for a real game room in the near future. The funny part is my wife has been building homes for close to 8 years now, very very high end homes actually. There is no money to be made building these homes, so we rent. If only I could afford to hire my wife... Oh but one day I will have my converted 2 car garage and then things will rock! -
I read in a few places today that the company that will be moving these in the US has deals with Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop and a few others. Mostly all the big box places you would buy games from. They aren't confirming this will be released like that, but there is a good chance. I don't know about the others, but GameStop would seem a likely place for this. The hipsters that hit that place up thinking they are cool talking about older game and complaining that there are no NES titles in the store would eat that shit up. (Maybe that is just in my area, but I hear that shit EVERY TIME I go in the GameStop here in town)

You know, that is a fantastic point. There is no reason that it shouldn't work. I'm going to make a 2-way and test it out on my own Jag/CD. It would be slightly less since it would be a 2 cord model ($25) but I don't see any reason it wouldn't be fantastic for use with Jag. Don't get that wrong, it would be no fun to find out this didn't work right by smelling the smoke coming off of your JagCD. Just saying, be sure before you plug that up.

Its a cool option for those that can't get a Harmony cart for some reason, or you already have a Supercharger and don't want to spend the money on Harmony. Why do you have to add a switch? I haven't looked into this as I had a Harmony before a Supercharger, but I have seen this from time to time and wondered why you had to do that.

I was wondering about the NES Kung Fu record and TG is down. They were last week too, how long has that been going on?

Speaking of using ET carts as donors, how does one remove the silver labels cleanly? I have a pile of carts that are too far gone for normal use, but the shells are good for this, so why not clean them up and get them to someone that could use them? If anyone is interested PM me, and if you know how I might remove the silver label if nothing else I can get them to the AA store (the don't like the silver labels, so if I can remove them for the store, maybe that would be better).

Yes I do, and I'm always looking for a good way to put thrill back into the hunt without spending an arm and a leg. It gets harder all the time. I want that version on Contra bad, but when I see it the price is always high and its hard to know if that is a fair price as I can't find good Famicom price guide information right now. I know it is out there. Anyone know a good place for that?

There is no question a re-release of AES stuff would sell like crazy, but the people that collect Neo Geo would lose their freaking minds. Can you imagine what the folks on the Neo Geo forums would think and say about that? I'm sure it would be much less than pretty. If this was selling for $100 I would buy it for sure. If nothing else it does at least look cool. I have spent more on things I knew I would never actually play much. I might use this from time to time. If not for the docking station and controller this would be an automatic pass for me. The fact that they are including that has had me thinking about what this "system" could be all day.

I did some more reading around and it turns out the expansion slot is an SD slot. The image that is out shows controller ports on the base but the way things are worded in some places leaves me to believe that the controller is cordless and is some how linked to the handheld itself, porbably bluetooth. I'm starting to wonder if they are going to sell more games, or if they just expect that people will load an SD card with ROM images and go to town. The price on this could just be Neo Geo being pricey, or it could be them making all the money they mean to up front and not worrying about game sales.
-
My understanding what the expansion slot was on the handheld, and is more than likely a SD card slot. If this thing is made with a slot for a cart they will release like normal hand helds I get it. That would make it something closer to a new system and I could handle that, as it stands this looks like a handheld emulator branded as a Neo Geo. If that is the case a modded PSP does more for less. The docking station and controller are cool, but not too much else. If the original controllers will work with it that would help push me to buy it. If they give these games the full HD treatment that would also help. Alteast then I could hook up it to my LED and play Metal Slug in HD without extra complication with my CMVS. Like I said before, waiting for more information, but probably leaning to passing on this. We will see come December if this is even released on time, and in enough numbers to allow people to get it. It seems there are never enough of the new stuff come the holiday season.

I don't know if I'll get this or not. I really like the looks, and the TV station idea is cool. That said it looks like all DLC and that is pretty terrible. I can see that releasing physical games for a system like this would be too costly maybe, but if I'm going to go all DLC on old games I'll go emulation on my Experia Play and be done with it. It looks great, I like to support new stuff like this, but at the same time I'm concerned...

That's really bad. Did the play testers not note the world/lake just falling off a cliff or the wire that ends in empty space? Look how the wire properly fades into the fog on the right. What is the point of "HD graphics" if they actually negatively impact the realism? Silent Hill is supposed to be inundated with fog. Even when outside it is supposed to feel claustrophobic. The fog was not a technical problem. It was an essential aspect of the game. I wonder if there are play testers anymore. These companies have gotten to the point where they just wait for people to bitch and patch the game. This one is too much to patch. Maybe they will learn a lesson, though I wouldn't count on it.

And that, my friend, is the problem. There are countless users that don't give a rats ass and say so publicly, ask Tempest. Every once in a while, the bitchsmack comes down. And guess what, threads like this happen, a bunch of babies crying mommy. There are "celebreties" of the game industry here, do you seriously want them to see this juvenile bullshit? I am sure David Crane will go, "Oh wow, cool, 27 pages of nonsense about Shatner, maybe I'll check out that dumbass corn thread next!". Really people? And what is it with the paranoia posts? Uh oh, I'll get banned, if I say what I think, really? This is not forum X or Y, this is AA. Which I guess we'll have to rename to ShatnerAge soon. I am done with this nonsense, keep ranting, maybe somebody will read it. Cebus had a great reply and said things that matter. He understood the point of the thread and got the message. He is talking about more and better conversation and at least letting people know why he locked a thread or deleted a post when he does. On a side note, Cebus, I understand completely that we never get the complete story. Great reply from Cebus, thank you for being constructive. The above quote however is terrible moderating and the reason I'm involved in this thread. CPU, you are always being this kind of negative and talking down to people. I do not think that is good moderation. I feel like your reply was uncalled for and overly negative. Posts like that one are the reason this thread is so hot. There have been 3 replies since I started this post, gotta catch up and see if the world might have changed. Also, these celebs are probably looking around those stupid posts. People have fun, I'm sure they understand that and don't really care. People do childish things all the time, these people are just enjoying a common sense of humor.

I understand the need to maintain order and the rules. I understand that not everything can be allowed. There are also things I don't understand. I don't understand putting people on mod preview because they don't agree with you. I don't understand deleting posts and status updates because you don't like what they say. It is not against the rules to disagree, and it is not against the rules to post that you disagree. When you delete it all you are doing is suppressing. That is a bad bad bad thing in a community largely based on opinions and information. It makes you look bad so you delete it, you don't like it so you lock it. Not everything can be allowed to go on, but not everything has to be stopped. Maybe it seems like more talk about Atari used to go on, but that really isn't the only reason for this place to exist. Everyone here has something in common, and why shouldn't they be allowed to learn more about one another and laugh with one another and develop a possible friendship based on something more then just gaming. There is more to be said, but I honestly feel I'm putting myself at risk of loosing my ability to use AA if I disagree with the mods too much, and I shouldn't have to feel that way.

I can never be sure I'm going to be near a PC to bid at the last min anyway. I have 3 smart phones with me at any given time, but I don't like bidding with them. I guess it is a good thing I don't care for the tactic.

Yeah, if you were going to go the criminal road to collecting AVGN would be the person to rob. Maybe Ax, I've seen the pictures I know its there. In either case you might want to add a moving truck rental to the list of things you need that Mastercard for.
