  1. I'm looking for a good MVS board. I haven't decided if I want a consolized MVS or a supergun, but either way I need a board and I figure I'll decide when I get a board which way to go with that board. I would like a 2 slot MV-2F board or a 1 slot MV-1FZ. If you have one of those let me know for sure. Any other board is worth a look and consideration so please PM me if you have a board you want to sell. Thanks.
  2. Working on it. I never close the door to a good deal. I see no reason I can't have both items. I'm a collector I can't help it.
  3. I didn't say anything about sodering to the jamma port. I was actually talking about a way that doesn't require sodering anything to the board at all.
  4. I have seen consolized MVS machines that used the Jamma harness. Plug it in, run the wires, cover the harness with part of the case to that you can't see that its plugged in like that. In that way it really is just a supergun. I have been looking at power supplies. If I do a supergun that can be built into the box and hidden. I guess it isn't that easy with a consol. Is there something I can use that makes that not as freaking ugly on the table? I have seen something used in a video or two, but have no idea what it is. When I get home I'll link the video if I remember to and maybe someone will know. I don't want to add enough case to inclose that power supply too really. My buddy thinks I should build a MV-1C into an xBox case. Have to put the games in the top of and all, moding the case wouldn't be too fun, but it might look neat.
  5. So if you consolize a MVS you are just building a supergun into it. I should have figured that out long before now. So the real difference is the way it looks. So, if I have a way to make the MVS look like a normalish consol it might be worth it, but that means customer casing and such. If I'm going to have to look at the MVS looking a lot like it does now I might as well build a nice supergum in a nice project box and have the function of the consolized MVS and then some really. Hmmm.... I also should have thought about just how easy making an arcade stick for this thing would be. I owned an MVS at one point (and I'm PISSED that I sold the MV-1FZ board out of it!) so I have seen just how the controls are wired and should have know how easy that could be. So I just need to get the right pin out for the controller port and work it out. I found a nice and highly recommended video encoder for s-video, component, and composite for around $80 so I have all the options there I could want, and the price isn't too bad really. Seems like I was new jamma harnesses for around $30, and the power supply I'm still figuring out. The best part is I need the video encoder and power supply not matter which way I go so getting them wont be wasted no matter what I do. I really need to work on my soder skills though. Last time I tried to soder panel mount jacks it didn't go so well. Then again I don't know that the board I was working on then worked at all anyway, so I might have done it perfect. You never know.
  6. Composite has always been ok with me actually. I understand its compressed RGB and the quality isn't the best it could be. It just doesn't seem like a MVS machine was putting out much better quality then composite can keep up with most of the time. I meant that I might go composite and s video. I have no need to anything like that fancy 5 wire stuff for this project. Might has well just go to HDMI at that point. I can't see why you would really benifit from the extra money.
  7. It really is a way of life I guess. Don't know how I feel about that just yet lol. I have seen superguns with a way to do the -5v stuff too. I just don't know enough about power supplies yet. Information on making a supergun is harder to find as I'm at work and looking up supergun brings up guns and games and my work computer blocks both of those things most of the time. I also hear s-video is the way to go, but I have no TV with that support and haven't seen one in a while. I'll have to look more into that. I have seen some standard AV stuff that looks good, but I just get to from from what I'm reading at this point. I figure I'll get component and s-video for the option. I can use one now and find the tv for the other later.
  8. I don't like to know if people are selling because money is tight. Like to pay the rent or keep the house or something. Thats just me, I feel bad for people when I know those things and I don't like to feel bad for people. I pretty much assume people are selling duplicates to make room, or selling unwanted items to get more stuff they want.
  9. No need to leave. Stay and get drunk on Neo Geo glory with us, we will need someone to draw on when they pass out anyway. Ok, this is all just too crazy. I'm conflicted now. I love the idea of the consolized MVS, but the supergun can work with most Jamma boards???? Why wasn't that mentioned? That blows my mind. I have more questions now to answer so the internet is my friend. I have seen a few VERY nice looking superguns including one with modded Sega Saturn controllers (which I happen to really like). That has me thinking I have to get back to the drawing board a bit. I can have my MVS fun and the option to do more later. Koopa you talked the supergun up alot. I do have a question you might know the answer too. A good supergun will work with the MVS and I'm seeing some Street Fighter stuff on there, so that means is will also work for the Capcom hardware (I can't remember the name of it), and I have read about it working on Mortal Kombat boards. How do the freaking controls work? If I use a 6 button controller how will the controls match up right? Crap there is alot to learn here. I also have a fair deal of experience building customer arcade control panels. I have to learn that for my MAME machine, so I do have the option to build arcade style sticks for this thing. TOO MANY OPTIONS! This is all very interesting and I love learning more and more of this kind of stuff. I do love my hobby!
  10. I'm saving money now, and working extra hard. If I can get there soon you have a deal. Maybe Monday I'll find out that Uncle Sam is being extra nice to me. To say I was interested would be a dramatic under statement. As good as my wife is to me though I can never let her know what this one set me back, so give me some time, if its there I'm on it like white on rice. @Koopa64 I have seen the ports built into the casing of the board and thats ok. I understand that means more work and as such more labor cost, but it will all be worth it when I'm done with it. I'm also thinking about building a supergun too. I might build one now ish, but more board, use the supergun to test the board and play around until I get the chance to have the consol built, and then sell the supergun here at cost. I can have my cake and eat it to in such a way. Just a thought, but from what I have seen the supergun isn't that complicated really and I can get that done. Just a thought.
  11. I have found more MVS boards, adjusting how I'm searching eBay has turned up different stuff. I have also done some looking and reading about the boards. I have a few months to get the needed items it would seem so I'll find what I want. Seems the power supply will be easy, and the video converter I yet know nothing about. If I'm going to have a hard time with the power supply or converter please let me know now so I don't get caught sleeping on them. The board I want is the MV-2F I think. It has the metal shield that can be easily used as the top of the console and the built in controller ports and I think stereo sound. A 1 slot is still of the table but the 1F is just too big. I would have to get another board and add controller ports I think. I have seen a few neat looking 1C models made.... If is crazy how fast you learn new things BTW. I get too into this stuff sometimes.
  12. I was told 2 and 4 slot boards work best. So a 2 slot as the 4 slot are going to be even more costly. Now that is what I want. I'll take a great deal on something else if it comes up. I really like the 1 slot consoles I have seen, but it would seem best to use the smaller board to do that and I don't see those as often. So, a smaller 1 slot would be nice, of a 2 slot. What kills me is a few years ago I sold the exact 1 slot board I would be wanting here and I knew it worked. I never knew this was possible so I thought "if I get a MVS machine I'll but a 4 slot anyway, what do I need this for". I could kick myself right in the face for this. I have concerns that I might get a board that says it works, but with no way to test it who really knows. I could have this thing built just to find out the board was bad to start with... This is not a hobby for the weak of heart.
  13. Pics might help a bit. If you are talking about the ActionReplay 4mb card they have out I don't think it matters. That thing breaks region coding as part of its function, so if you have that you should be great. I have to get on of those for my system now that I think about it.
  14. I have a MAME machine in the house as well. However I went for the custom built control panel over those xarcade deals. the ipac route it much more fun and oh so worth it. Now I can play MVS games on there, but that isn't near as much fun as plugging a real cart into real hardware and playing the game for real... I really like playing the real stuff you see. Stupid parts. I don't know that I have ever had 2 days and the internet to find something and came up with nothing. Power supplies and such I can get. A freaking board? NOPE! I'll find it, but I tell you I'm used to being able to find things easier then this. As a matter of fact the AES is easier to find over all, just isn't as cool as customer hardware and arcade carts on the tv. Come to think of it everything for this is harder to find then I would think it would be. Controllers and all. I'll find them, and when I do I'll post places to get them here I guess. I would think eBay, but so far no luck without crazy prices and/or importing that is.
  15. The Mega Man games for the NES. I was allowed to rent one every now and then and I always loved them, but I never owned any of them. Even now I only have Mega Man 2 (which is my favorite of them all) but its in terrible shape. The label is all kinds of screwed up. Looking back now I wish I had gotten about 10 copies of Air Raid, but who doesn't think that from time to time. That was before my time, but maybe my uncle could have gotten a copy or two and gave them to me when I got his Atari or something.
  16. How hard is it to replace them? I haven't actually seen that done. I normally look on YouTube and the like for these kinds of things. It hasn't let me down yet. Does that normally get it done right?
  17. I have a modded xBox other then this one. I guess I could sell this one or something. That xBox is nice as aside from the DVD drive they are built like a tank and it has a 180Gb drive and many games on the HDD already. That disc drive works when it opens, something I just saw a video on fixing on YouTube so I'm going to try that when it comes home from my buddy's house. Yeah, the more I think about it, I would like to get the DVD drive to work if I can (I really think it just needs a good cleaning as this unit is a bit dirty) and I'll sell it or give it away or something. I have no need for 2 of this system if they are both the same thing anyway.
  18. If I didn't already have one I'd be on this, you don't see them often anymore and this is a nice package. As a matter of fact, if its still around in a few weeks I'll get it myself. This one is a little better off and I have but 1 game for it so far. Good luck with the sale, I'm sure someone is dying for one of these. They just look too cool in a collection.
  19. I know the basics of Jamma, I didn't know what the the MVS boards really were. I don't know how to change to thread name. I hope to find a good board in the next few weeks, talking around the 2 slot works best and I need to be sure I have the RF shielding with the board. Oh, and the only reason I would go away from this forum for help would be to get the board. I can't seem to find them as readily as I hear they should be found.
  20. I take it having a jamma board is a must for this project then seeing as how you mention a jamma harness?
  21. The DVD drive doesn't seem to work properly right now. I really think it needs a good cleaning.
  22. I would take a $300 pre-built deal. Thats not a big deal. Not like I would just buy that right now, but I would buy that in a week or two. I have spent enough on games for a while. I'm gathering as much information as I can at this point. Where can I get the right board? What board should I be looking for? I have seen 1 slot boards in atleast 2 very different sizes so far. Whats the difference?
  23. I was also going to offer a swift kick to the nuts, but you beat me to it.
  24. I assume you mean AES sticks. That would be super nice. I can't get to eBay at work so I have had to wonder about the options for controllers so far. I thought about them but it would seem those sticks would be just as rare as the AES in this contry. YES, if you know where I can get parts do let me know please! I have looked on eBay before and haven't seen much that seemed reasonable from what I have been told to expect to pay for the board. I plan to spend some time tonight learning more about this entire thing and have only the fantest clue whats going on so far. NO, I do not plan to do this myself. I plan to pay someone here that has done it before to do it for me. My pockets aren't deep enough to risk ruining everything I could put into this project so I would rather just pay someone that knows what to do to get it done right the first time. I would love to just buy one, but is the prices I see online for these things are honest representations of their value I might have to scrap this entire idea. $700+ is nuts for this project! Cheap would be ok, but I do want something that looks half nice too. I want to stay away from exposed wires and boards like I have seen on a few of these. That is the main reason I can't have the other method you keep talking about, to much 'mess'. I'll spend the money to have something a little nicer.
