  1. A buddy of mine and I do this often. Not alway out of state, but we drive several hours in a direction, hit up the GPS and go to all the places we can. I look for video games and a few other things, he looks for coins and a few other things and we see who can get the most value for the money. A good GPS and a good plan help a lot in these things.

We are planning to drive across country in July to drop a car off in Cali (we are in Georgia now so it is truly across country) and on the trip we will hit many many many places. I can not wait, 1 to drive across the country and also to see what I can find in other markets.

  2. As if it needs to be said, dealing with Yurkie is a great idea! I ordered a bunch of boxed Atari 2600 games from Yurkie and they all came in packed well and fast. Everything matched pictures and description perfectly. Don't worry about doing business with this user, you are going to get what you paid for, and the price was much more then fair.

  3. I guess I'm ok with your auction idea. I have a few questions, and then I'm trying to buy atleast one of these from you. My wife saw them and wants 3, we shall see.

    How much for S&H?

How will this auction work? Silent auction where no one knows what the high big is? Posting bids here?

Looking forward to the chance to own one of these. Would look nice in the house.

  4. Glad to see someone mentioned System Shock 2. The original is a damn scary game also.

Others I will mention include Doom 1 and 2, the Silent Hill and Resident Evil games, and 'D' for the 3DO.

I do remember as a child my dad got a used PC from a friend. It ran DOS as I remeber. He hit DIR and I saw nothing but DOOM on the screne. There were other things, but for some reason DOOM was all I saw. He ran the program at my request. I remember him protesting as no one in the house knew what it was at the time and he thought it might be a virus or something. When that game started we played for hours, and played often there after. That game did have the effect of scaring the crap out of me from time to time. When you turn a corner and there are imps every where, and then you have tripped a secret door behind you that release pinkies behind you too and you have no idea. Yeah, that was a little scary as a kid. Oh, and all the flashing lights and imps screaming on the other side of the map.

  5. I would have to say the most common responce is probably envy. On a small level for most, but some people to a much larger degree. Most of my friends and family call my house "Michael's play ground" and come by as often as possible to play.

I really think all this has more to do with my wife being completely and totally ok with my collecting. Most of my stuff is in the living room or shelves and stuff. Very little of it is hidden from people that come over. Many people ask if I have this game or that. Few ever ask if they can play it, but I always offer and many take me up on it.

I can't say anyone has ever been negative about it. I do have a friend that can't understand all the money I spend sometimes, but then again he buys cars all the time, so I don't take much direction from him.

  6. Are any of these still for sale? If so which ones, and how much would you like for them? I know you are asking for offers, but I have no idea what to offer for them and I don't want to be insulting. I just have no clue.

Also, how on earth would you mail those things?

    I WILL EAT YOUR SOUL!

With out questing the fuuniest thing I have seen in a while. Reading through this thread and then seeing that just had me looking like a fool on the sale floor at work. I might have to get that as a tatoo or something. Just damn.

  8. My brother was scared to death of Resident Evil 2 when I got it for Christmas back in the day. I mean freaked out! He wouldn't play it, and could barely watch me play it at first. Later on he started to play it but only if I was in the room.

My personal freak out game was Manhunt. I don't think it really scared the crap out of me or anything, but I remember feeling very real fear of being found and killed. I had a physical reaction to death in that game. Just a creepy game all the way around. (After reading the title of this thread I had to go order another copy as my original one was traded in)

  9. I have seen modern LCD screens with burn in from constant images. The map bar from Obilvion was clearly burnt into a friends TV before he replaced it. That said he played that game for about 12 hours a day for a month, so I think its a case of not having enough life to off set his nerd-gasim.

I have been playing olders systems with that one color back ground on my LCD for a while now with no problem. I reallty think it just has something to do with how much time you spend playing on it at a time. An hour or so here or there shouldn't create a problem for you.

  10.

There are RCA to Coaxial converters available for a couple bucks. This allows you to hook up a NES/Atari directly to a coaxial port.

You can get a coaxial switchbox if needed.

Atari --> Coaxial converter --> Coaxial switchbox

I think he needs a way to hook up say 5 coaxial connections to one coaxial input on a tv. I used to have a pile of these but I lost them in moves and such and now they are getting hard to find. It would indeed be nice to know where to get some of them.

  11. $65 shipped obo.

Too good to pass up on a working 6 switch unit with working controllers too. What, sweet deal, PM sent.

I honestly had to look to make sure you had a good rep before I took this deal, almost too good to be true. Way to go man!

  12. ^

Their prices look less than reasonable. $10 for Sonic 2? Get real!

They are hit and miss on that stuff. They certainly aren't the kind of place you go into if you want to buy all the dirt commons for a system. They get closer to right once you get about the $5 or $10 games. For the longest time they sold all games starting at $5. It didn't matter what it was. Then they added a $3 bracket.

When you are in the store there are these colored dot stickers on everything. You have to figure out what each color means in dollar amounts and go from there. In a way I understand this method, you can drop the prices for a entire range of games at once, in another way it has always been confusing to me. Its really confusing if you have a game with a blue dot. There are two different blue dots and the place is barely lit at all so seeing which one you have can suck.

Everything is priced in 5s (save the new $3 dot). If a game is worth $46 its $50 in there. Not a terrible thing, but its a thing none the less.

  13. I have often thought that is Nintendo had used the CD attachment Sony made for them we wouldn't have the PS3 at all. Sony would have used the work for Nintendo instead of themselves, it would have more then likely failed and they would have stayed out of that. As it is, they started the project, Nintendo backs out, and they have a good start for the PS1. Just the way I have always felt about this.

  14. Yeah! I popped in 3-4 times during the play session for around 5-6 minutes each time and it was cool to watch! :) Sort of felt like being in an arcade back in the day, standing behind someone watching their game. Fun!

Yeah, and just like back then you could only see some of the screen and it was from a funny angle. All I need now is my mom trying to drag me out of the arcade while I protest that I'm next in line and the experience would be near complete.

  15. As a service to fellow AtariAge members, I believe the name of the store should be mentioned. That way, fellow AtariAge members don't waste their time going there.

I have certainly said enough for them to know I'm talking about them if they are coming here. I have mentioned this site a few times in the store so I guess they might be here somewhere, though most of them are more the 4Chan type to be sure.

I did go back a re-read my OP, and the guy I descibed there as the owner turns out to be the manager. I thought they owned it together and I found out today there is 1 owner and that guy is just a manager.

Screw it, as I said, they will surely know who they are at this point. Its a place's name is Gamesboro. It really just a bunch of kids pretending to have a cool job to be honest. There are a few real cool people there, just that one manager ass hat that kills me.

  16. Agree.

But as far as GW goes, they have a diverse clientele. Video game sales are only a minor portion of their overall financial picture. So the clothing and toasters make up for any lost sales in video games, so they mostly don't care if employees grab up the good stuff for themselves. For every game collector that gets mad, there are probably five grandmas who come in on a regular basis to buy clothes for their grandkids, and the sales of that stuff more than makes up for gamers not coming back because they are mad at the place.

Just my take. It doesn't make it right, but is the way it is.

I have been speaking only of game stores in this thread. I expect crap from GW, but from gamers you would expect atleast a little group think. Maybe not all the time, but I think of other gamers when I'm looking at the 2nd copy of a rare-ish game for a good price. Sure, I could collect it, but then again, some one else could have 1 and I could have 1 and we could share the enjoyment.

  17. So these arcadeguns.com deals will work with any screen right? Looks like they are set up that way but my computer at work flags this as a "weapons" site and wont let me view it, and my phone is kind of a pain on some websites so the information I could get was limited.

That is alot of money, unless they work really well, then it is just right and I'll order them in a heart beat. I'm all about being able to play Police Trainer in my living room! ALL ABOUT IT I SAY! I would just about buy that machine if I could find it.

One question about these guns in general. The goal for me is to take my current MAME cab out, make a stand for my control panel, and play MAME on my TV for a while untill I get a better place to put the machine again. If this works properly I might not go back to the MAME machine idea for some time, and I'll be using a 16:9 tv in the mean time, and maybe there after for ease of use. When the game is set up for 4:3 and playing on a 16:9 TV you get those black bars on the side of the screen, does this make using these light guns harders or what? Also, someone mentioned MAME things they are a mouse, does that mean that cross hairs stay on the screen the entire time? I don't like that much at all.

  18. Just do you know I watched for a while when I could at work. I've never heard of that game, and I can't say I'm really understanding it from seeing as much of the screen as I could. All those happy faces seemed really happy until you hit them with that zoomy deal and then they looked really sad though. You should not hit those, that seems clear.

I had to work and when I came back to the computer I was looking at arcade machines. Did you break the record? Can I have your Donkey Kong machine? :lust: PLEASE!!! :lust:

  19. @HatefulGravey

Maybe you should provide the owner the link to this thread. He'll probably kick you out for bad-talking his store (even though you didn't mention the name), but it'll give him something to mull over in his conscience. He'll hear what serious gamers and collectors think of that kind of management, and he can make a decision at that point how he wants to continue running the store.

Darn sure, if he's smart, and keeping his loyal customers happy will bring him more money, he'll consider limits for his employees.

I took a more direct path with the manager there and it was very hard to stay civil in doing so. I made my point without burning the bridge entirely. I know the owner too, so as soon as he is back in town I'll talk to him about this too.

People here have talked alot about price. I don't worry about that. If it cost more then its worth to me I pass on it. I'm ok with that. If no one pays the high price it will drop or the company will. When the workers buy it for less then the store is asking they have no reason to adjust their pricing.

I've been reading every post in this thread and thinking about this. I work in sales, I make money off the money people spend with me. I would like to buy the things I sale and from time to time I do, but I make sure I have something to sell too. I never buy the last of anything, as a matter of fact I make sure I have more then enough of an item before I buy it at all. I enjoy owning the things I sell, but I must make money to support my family and work toward my goals. If I have nothing to sell, or sell out too often, or have to tell my customers "no" to often for any reason I lose customers. When I lose customers I lose the people that bring me new customers and the money I made from the customers I had. When I lose money I lose my way of life. Business is business and play is play for me, and should be for most people. If my business is to sell games, I need to sell games, not buy games. If I could make $5 selling the game or spend $5 buying the game I have to look at the reasons dealing with the game at all. Am I working or playing?

This store has not only lost me as a customer, and the money I spend, this company has lost the people I would have sent to them as well, and the people I have already sent that now know about this problem. If they could have impressed the people I sent to them they too would have sent people to them and so on. Losing one good customer and values your service and is willing to tell people about you can cost you MUCH more then you could gain keeping a worker happy letting him buy games from you at a discount.

Business training 101: A happy customer tells 3 people how happy he is, an upset customer tells 10 people how pissed he is. American's are trained to focus on the negative, so it is very hard to get a solid positive image out there and keep it out there.
