I use my top loader a lot and I can tell you the power light is an issue. If you flip the switch and nothing happens you can't even be sure the NES is getting power. Thats why its a problem. It can be harder to tell where the problem is starting when one comes up.

There are 2 models. Toaster style 001 and top loader style 101. For the most part my top loader has had no problems at all. I don't think they are as bad off as the toaster style systems. I know some people don't like the video of the top loader, but I haven't notice a difference to worry about.

That is freaking great. This really needs to be released as an app for android. I would be sooooo happy if this was an app for android.

As a rule I stay away from all things clone as well. People at the local game store I now stay away from call me a purist and mock me a bit, but the fact is it is hard to beat the original for any system. If you are going to cheat use emulators. Its all to easy to hook a PC up to your modern TV and go nuts anymore so why deal with poor quality that cost money?
-
I hate that systems require different guns for different games. I'll just be getting my fix from the MAME light guns talked about in the emulation forum.

If only I had a 3D0 I would have to get them just to see what the hell is going on. As it stands my lack of a 3D0 has saved me this time. You are such an enabler by the way! This is like going to the AA meeting to advertise your new package store.

I forget... aren't there a few games that need a 10NES chip to function properly? I do recall some people installing a switch instead of cutting the wire. To my understanding the chip only functions to stop games without the right frequency incoded from playing. When the game is turned on it passes a fequency to that chip, if it isn't right the chip doesn't let the game play. When the proper pin is cut is stops the chip from telling the system the frequency is wrong but still allows it to move power to the right places in the board to run the game. The system assumes all is well if it isn't told other wise and game on.

^^^^^^ Now thats what I call an answer. Thanks, I was apparently too lazy to think about Wiki. I normally find ignoring Wiki only had positive results anyway. Stupid Wiki.

That is a quote worthy of a place in a signature.

Ok Ok, I give, someone define JRPG! There seem to be many different ways to define this thing. So, define it for me please. For the record, if JRPG has anything to do with men that look like women playing dress up to gain new powers I'm out. If it is a turn based combat thing I'm in. If it is an original language thing this is all really silly. Does someone in Japan have to make it for it to be a JRPG? I read this thread waiting for it to come together for me, but it seems you guys are all talking about these mystical JRPGs like they are transformers, changing into all kinds of things to fit your needs. Define please.

1 Million Sales Benchmark Is Rubbish
HatefulGravey replied to DracIsBack's topic in Modern Console Discussion
When I see a game sell a million copies I know to stay away from the online gaming for that title. That normally means you are going to run into a lot of children that just want to cuse at you because mommy doesn't know they are doing it and you can't tell on them, or people that only play that kind of game. This is all that number really means to me. That said there are A LOT of gamers in The States alone, I mean A LOT!!! It shouldn't be that uncommon for a great game to sell a million copies. Titles that are on one system I can understand, but if a great game comes out for the 2 major systems in the market for gamers (the 360 and PS3 if you were lost) then it shouldn't have a hard time hitting that number. The problem is so many games have bad game play anymore. There are tons of great ones, but there are many many more tons of pure crap out now too. -
While we are talking SMS hardware and such, will the SMS light gun work with the Genesis? I can't find a Genesis light gun for a reasonalbe price right now, but I know where I can get the SMS light gun cheap... just a thought.

The machine currently in the house is a MAME machine. I have others I'm working on getting up and running. Turbo will be the next on the list I think. I run across good deals for them all the time but space is the issue. Now, all my friends are quick to say I can store them in their houses. You have to see that coming, and soon I may take them up on the offers. I get to have more machine waiting for the day I finally get my game room, and I can get my friends more and more into the hobby in the mean time. You might be suprised the number of people here with machines in their houses'. You would surely be surpised at the number of machines some members have. The collections here can make you into an envy monster in a heart beat if you let them.

I have replaced these before without this problem. This is one of those things you would have to try hard to do wrong. Don't even seem like the connector would fit back on the board wrong without breaking something. So long as it goes back to normal function I would worry about nothing. The things I noticed was the connector was crazy tight for a while after I installed the new one. I thought this was more then likely a good thing and never bothered to dig more into it. Everything still works great.

Collecting has long been an addiction of mine. Not always video games, but always collecting. Comics, action figures, card games, board games, PnP RPGs.... video games are more fun then most of the others, they take up less room (with the exception being the arcade machine in the living room), and cheaper by far. The only thing that is getting out of control in the video game realm is what my wife calls the "box bug". I have gotten into getting games CIB as often as possible, and this is creating an issue with space to display said games. I find myself looking for CIB games and in the end paying more for the game just to have the boxes and books. I could just get the game, but the box bug brings me back in.

Yay, another chance to play a complete season. Maybe this time I can get the time to play more. I'm digging the idea of arcade ports, and I'm really in love with Kung Fu being in the mix as mentioned about. As far as themes the arcade port thing is cool, Spy Hunter, Donkey Kong/Jr/3, Galaga (I know it was just played but...), Kung Fu... Stretch this to make Mike Tyson's Punch Out fit. That game is interesting when played for points. That or a "Dirt Common" season. All games that pretty much everyone has. I don't care for the SNES idea personally. Thats just me, and I'm not a constant member of the club, so I understand I don't matter too much. Just my 2 cents. EDIT: I would also be ok with another point system. The way it is the top 1 or 2 can run away with this thing fast. I know it isn't all about winning, but it would be nice to have a chance at it. If you are bad at a game or 2 that someone is really good at you can lose the pace.

Yo dawg, I heard you like Colecovisions
HatefulGravey replied to S1500's topic in Show Us Your Collection!
I have tried using windex on some of my more common systems. This way I'm not losing much if it screws anything up. It worked great on my Genesis and Saturn. Spray the cloth not the system and clean away. It seems to do the trick and without damage so far. Can't really see where it would damage the plastic, but you can never be too careful. -
Scariest Video Games Ever?
HatefulGravey replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Why yes, yes I do. I always switch the name up, and this time I didn't catch it. What can I say, some times I'm dumb! -
Freaking sweet. Hopefully in the next few weeks business will pick up and I'll recover from my recent spending spree of sorts (coulnd't help but spend a few hundred on a few sales on this site and a few things on eBay you see). I look forward to adding these to my machine as soon as humanly possible. I'm honestly going to have to distract myself to stop me from buying them now. I have the means, I just know that I should save them instead of spending them you see. Making myself wait is always the hardest part of my gaming addiction.

I have both the 2600 and the XM1. I only bring out the XM1 to show people how crazy the thing is. Its like the PS3 having an attachment to play xBox 360 games. I play the 2600 all the time. I like having the real hardware there. Makes everything seem cooler to me when there is real Atari in the room anyway.

Scariest Video Games Ever?
HatefulGravey replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Before Doom or Manhunt there was a game that scared the crap out of me for no good reason. Master Blaster. Something about the intro to that game, I think it was the music and the frog eating the radio active stuff or something. I was going through my NES games and playing a little of this one and that one yesterday and I put in Master Blaster and got a little of that old spine crawl. That music reminded me of the freakout factor that game had for me back in the day. Also, I've never really gotten anywhere in that game, never really took the time to understand it. -
While we on on the subject, will the 3D glasses work with the Power Base Converter for the Genesis model 1? Now that I know I can get replacement glasses to work for the SMS that I can actually use I'll have to buy a pair of the orginals for the part that plugs into the system and play the 3D games. I've been waiting for a way, and never knew you could get replacements like that.

NES predicts SuperBowl Winners...
HatefulGravey replied to Murph74's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Got the winner right at least. The half time show in the game was better though. Got to love 8 bit up skirts. I always thought it was odd that they included a skirt coming up just enough to see "bloomers" in the half time in that game. -
A buddy of mine and I do this often. Not alway out of state, but we drive several hours in a direction, hit up the GPS and go to all the places we can. I look for video games and a few other things, he looks for coins and a few other things and we see who can get the most value for the money. A good GPS and a good plan help a lot in these things. We are planning to drive across country in July to drop a car off in Cali (we are in Georgia now so it is truly across country) and on the trip we will hit many many many places. I can not wait, 1 to drive across the country and also to see what I can find in other markets.

As if it needs to be said, dealing with Yurkie is a great idea! I ordered a bunch of boxed Atari 2600 games from Yurkie and they all came in packed well and fast. Everything matched pictures and description perfectly. Don't worry about doing business with this user, you are going to get what you paid for, and the price was much more then fair.
