Why my local gaming store just starting sucking!
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The customer is worth less then the employee at this point. That isn't a good thing. Like I have said, I can see being burnt on a thing of two, but over and over again? Really? Why does he need that many copys of Contra? Really? Of all those that are ok with the employees buying everything, you can't tell me it doesn't piss you off atleast a little. Also, not to be an ass, but I can afford to spend a hell of a lot more then their workers can. The benefit of having a real job. I would love to work for a game store and share my love for the hobby with people that really loved the hobby too, but at the end of the day I have bills to pay and dreams of more then an apt on campus and a NERF Halo game. I'm worth more to this company EVERY time. I don't just buy the rare games that come through at a good price, I buy whatever I'm interested in at the time. Buying one game for $25 is nice, but when I go in and buy $250 worth of stuff I think I did better for the company. Opening a store to gain more access to collecting isn't good business. A fact my buddies in town will learn shortly. -
Ever look up classic games on Amazon.com?
HatefulGravey replied to Rockin' Kat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I buy from Amazon all the time. Its a matter of finding the deals. I find it is something fun to do while I'm working. Stay away from the high crap and get the good deals, its is just like eBay like that. -
Why my local gaming store just starting sucking!

I have forgiven this kind of thing from the guy before. He is the manager if it matters. Many times I have over looked his comments and thought the same way you guys do about this. However, I have reason to believe he is getting a great discount, more then likely paying what the store did to take the item in, and he seems to do it every freaking time! I'm still really pissed, but I'm not going to post their information. I really want to, but it seems this is everywhere, so I'll just assume you all are assiming we are going to have this problem everytime you look at a site for a retail store. To think, I was going to drop a grand on an arcade machine from them at the end of Feb. Too bad for them. I think maybe I'll stop by and let the owner know about that as well. A few of the employees knew I was going to get it too, so they can confirm it. This might help make my point. Its sad that this level of crap is going on every where. If you can't controll what employees buy, and the company I work for does VERY VERY WELL, then you should atleast see to it they don't get crazy discounts on everything through the door. I also know for a fact that pawn shops, which is basically what these classic game stores are on a legal level if nothing else, restict how often you can buy from them as a worker. Just saying, some places do it right, so people are jerks. -
I went online yesterday to check out the new stock at the local classic gaming store in town. I found a few things I wanted so I got off work and went by to pick them up. I walked in and ask the worker there to help me find Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Crazy Taxi for the Dreamcast. From the back room comes "we don't have those". I explained they were on the website and that they should fix that. The worker in the back said "they didn't take them out of the system when I bought them". Just what the f***? This is the same shit that bought the Turbo Duo system that came in and all the 3DO games, but not the 3DO. He freaking works there and gets all the good stuff. So I asked to buy their Sege CDx and they 3DO for around $210 total. When they rang them up I explained that I had been spending somewhere around $400 a month with them and that I kept running into this problem of wanting games they had, and then finding out a worker there bought them. I had them put the systems back (I could tell the owner was upset at this) and told them my business with this was done. If I had to got to the internet to buy the games I might as well go to the internet and pay less for the systems too. This all got a response but it did not get my my freaking video games. I am the best customer they have (many of the workers have made comments about me keeping them in business at times) because many in this town don't care about classic gaming enough to buy the pricey stuff. It really sucks that there is a local place to buy games, but if anything half nice comes in I can have none. This same guy will by every copy of Contra that comes in, I don't even have 1 yet because he keeps buying them. Freaking kills me. I would love to post their name and website here to bash them but good, but I'll let others learn to hate these shits. I just needed to vent to others that would understand and may want to vent themselves. Maybe in time I'll post their name and all anyway, just depends on how long I stay mad. On 24 hours now.

I want to be the CGRHD guy!
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Like a few others if I'm looking at buying a new game or would like to get something new but don't know what yet I look for his reviews first. If nothing else the information he covers is the same in most videos so you are going to get a good idea of what the game is before you buy it. His review actually made me buy House of the Dead for the Wii. I had heard from the dumb shits at GameStop that reloading required a button press so I put the game back. Then I see his review and he took the time to mention shooting off screen worked. I got the game that day. I guess the point of the post is he seems like a real gamer more then some others and as such he knows what information we really want and he gives it. I dig him the most of all the reviewers I've seen. -
Sega Dreamcast vs Sega Saturn gun games
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I really enjoy Rescue Mission! and how can one top Missile Defense 3-D! I love my MasterSystem, it stay connected to the tv, most of my systems don't. That said I'm looking for more arcade style for the MAME cab. On a side note, what is the deal with the 3D games on the MasterSystem? Can I use other set ups to play them or what because I've seen the games, but I've never seen hardware to make them playable. Just a really screwed up looking screen. I never got into the 3D games for the system back in the day so I have alot fo catch up on. -
Thhis is the overwhelming part. I see Intellivsion on the list of things to do and my thought it, "I'll take it!". I don't need another system, but man I want another system. What I need to do is expand the game selection for the systems I have, what I end up doing is buy more systems. I guess I think the working systems will be harder to find as time goes them working games.

I watch this show on YouTube all the time and I think its great, but I can't help wanting to be that guy. Sorry I don't know his name, but I don't know that I have noticed it being said in the videos so maybe that is by design. Think about this man. Beer and Truxton. I will say more later but first let the swelling in your brain go down so as to stop it from popping. Aside from having this show and all the viewers and all the fun that must go with it, people send him free stuff! Man that is a dream for a collector. If you are around here CGRHD guy, you are my hero I think. I wish I had thought of your show first, because that would rock. Also, if you aren't getting paid for your show you really should, I have gotten many a game off your reviews.

Look, I found proof! Its all in good fun man. Don't take life too seriuosly, you'll never make it out alive. -
I have seen cars that I thought would be cool to drive. I have never seen a car that I had to have bad enough to pay the crazy price on the sticker. Its crazy what people spend on a car. I understand that is some people's passion and I certainly understand going after the things that you are interested in. I just can't see spending $70,000.00 on a car. I have a hard time seeing $35,000.00 on a car. I'm also not the kind of person to spend $50 on a 30 year old game either. I know some of them are worth it, I just don't buy them unless I find it in a bin somewhere are something like that. If I had the money to do that with a car it would be pretty freaking cool. Though I would have to have 2 screens, and the passenger seat set up to play as player 2.
-
WHAT? Cars only exist to get me back and forth to work so I can make money and then to the places where games live to buy games with that money. I never have been the kind to really care about what car I drive. I need a good car with good milage, nothing more. I have plans to put a few driving cabs in the game room that would have been a garage, does that help? Oh, and I have no plans to leave this state. It would have to be something pretty impressive to move me far enough to worry about my games. The systems and games I have don't take up enough space in a moving truck to make a big deal out of, and the arcade cabs I'd deal with when the time came. There is a good chance if I was leaving this area there would be more games where I was going then where I am. This area is pretty freaking dry, and very dry in the arcade machine realm. I often have to leave the state to get those anymore.

I've been thinking about this thread for a while now. I wouldn't say I'm overwhelmed by my collection, I'm overjoyed with my collection. What I do find overwhelming is the things I don't have! There is so much information out there in this hobby. Game values, reviews, accessories and so on. All of it has a story and something a collector needs to know before they get involved. A place like AtariAge is a must for a collector. Without this group of people with different interest and collections I don't know that I could have gotten to the point I'm at now. I am often concerned about where and how to store things. I want to keep everything working as it does now and protected and displayed. This can be tricky. I don't have all the space in the world like other people here have mentioned. Luckily my wife thinks it cool too so I can have it around without having to worry about driving her crazy. The part of my collection that might be overwhelming would be arcade machines. I don't have many now, but they really take space. There are all kinds of technical things to think about too, and if pieces and parts go bad finding the right part and fixing it correctly is hard for me. I'm alway worried I'm getting more then I know when I buy an arcade machine. So far so good, but its a legit concern. Hopefully soon my wife and I will buy a house. We already have plans to wall in a 2 car garage, and that will help a ton. I'm so lucky that she is down with that btw. We have the tools and the family has the skills so it should be a pretty smooth deal honestly. Once that is done I'll be a much happier person. Oh, and if I was rich none of this would matter. The hardest part of collecting has got to be wanting something else and having to plan for it. Sometimes you find a rare item that wont be there when you get the money right and it kills you. Thats surely overwhelming.

After I posted I looked at your post count and join date and felt pretty sure you would have known to look there. Being here almost 10 years you more then likely have the kind of video game knowledge I would love to pick at. I have no imports, but I'm sending you list to a buddy of mine that owns a classic gaming store to see what he has. If he has anything I'll let you know and get you what I can. He likes to support the community with this kind of stuff so there is a chance. I should know something in a day or two. Good luck.

Your best bet to find them already on the web is probably thecoverproject.net its a pretty sweet place for replacing covers and such.

I have seen this in the case of recalls more then anything. I have a collection of Mr. Potato Heads, my family gets the for me all the time and I just have them on a shelf. They have been around for years and years and growing. When the Spider Man movies came out they made a Spider-Spud that I was going to get, they couldn't see it to me because the sticker said it was for th wrong ages. I tried to tell them I was an adult and just intended to put it on a shelf in its box, still no go. They suck. To the point about prices being wrong. A friend of mine got a shop vac yesterday from Walmart. Said $70 at the shelf, rang up $17. If this was a mom and pop place I would say something, but Walmart? Screw them.

Sega Dreamcast vs Sega Saturn gun games
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I do believe you have use different guns with the PS1. The PS2 though had one gun that was really good and worked with almost everything if I remember correctly. Do the PS1 titles work in a PS2 with the PS2 guns? I actually agree with this comment. -
Theres your problem right there. I don't know that I have ever gotten something from them that worked right for long. I'm assuming you have looked into a switch or something clearly needed to make this thing work. You might crack that bad boy open and look for a bad soder point or something. Sometimes those points get cracked or were just bad from the start.

Sega Dreamcast vs Sega Saturn gun games
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
with a US dreamcast youre sol you can play HotD 2 on the original XBox, there is an ok gun for that system. Or you can pick it up for wii, which can be fairly good if you have the right gun attachment for your wiimote. or you can import a japanese dreamcast (they really arent too expensive) and official lightgun http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3437/3893972234_98680a0bc2.jpg i still vote for the saturn for your cab I'm kind of thinking the Saturn too. Its not like I'll use it all the time or anything, just from time to time it would be fun. I have already contacted my friend that runs GameStop here, on the way home I'm stopping by to get the game and the gun things for the Wii controllers. He has them put aside for me already. It will get me by for now. If the Wii would just get more games like that it would be my favorite system. I need an Area 51/Area 51 Site 4 bundle for Wii, that would make me HAPPY!!!! -
3DS Release Date and Price
HatefulGravey replied to rockman_x_2002's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I know that some of that isn't needed. Thats why I didn't mention the Wii bowling ball my grandfather just HAD to have or the golf clubs and bats and the like. I know the motion thing, the balance board, the controllers, the little thumb stick deal (whatever they call that). It adds up pretty fast. I have spent more money on the Wii then I have my 360 in hardware. That is saying something because the 360 is my main gaming machine at this point. ( I have the PS3, 360 and Wii, I imagine most of us do). I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of Nintendo's modern run. I love the stuff before the Game Cube. I just find the extra stuff for the Wii a bit crazy. That said I have made plans to pick up some stuff for the Wii my wife wants on the way home. I can't get away from it now matter what lol. -
3DS Release Date and Price
HatefulGravey replied to rockman_x_2002's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I got my wife a Wii for Christmas in 2009. She wanted it for the bowling that came in the box (and to be honest that is about the best thing I have seen for the system). She also heard about Wii fit and wanted that so I went to get her that. Behold I have to get a balance board. Ok, thats kind of cool, why not. Later she wants the new Punch Out game, oh look, I have to buy MORE ATTACHMENTS to play this game. So I get this little extra bit that snaps into the bottom of the contollers to provide more movement registration or something, I thought that was the point in that bar on top of the TV and the controller in each hand. Guess not. I wanted to buy House of the Dead for us to play but in order to enjoy it I would have to buy still more white plastic bits to put the controller in to make them look like a gun and I would have done that and been happy, but I found out you have to use both contollers because you have to reload with one and shoot with the other.... I don't buy Wii games now for 2 reasons. 1) I can't find a game that doesn't look like pure suck. 2) I can never tell what attachments I have to have, which ones make the game better, which ones wont work at all, which ones came out after the game but make the game better..... Just too much issue. The casual gamer is supposed to know what to do? Nope, they are supposed to buy a bunch of crap they don't need. Sorry, I have taken this entire thread off topic with my last few post. I'll get back to the point next time. -
Did Super Mario Bros end the crash?
HatefulGravey replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Why thank you, I worked extra hard on it, not really. It was suggested by xBox Live when I started it up and I couldn't think of anything better. Sorry to just drop that in this thread but it would be rude of me to ignore a compliment like that. -
Sega Dreamcast vs Sega Saturn gun games
HatefulGravey replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
All this conflicting information and over all bad reviews from most people. What is a man to do? I know I love Sega, but they really screwed up toward the end with some of this stuff. I want a good gun to play House of the Dead with. -

Thats the one I liked the look of much better and seemed like it would be easier to hold and use, but also the one that had the most negative reviews. I'll take your work for it and order a pair soon. Thanks for the information.
