  1. I know that my arguements were alittle over done, but I think there is a lot of room for some real problems with this system. Too much room for me to jump on the launch wagon for sure. You did bring up another problem with Nintendo in your counter arguement (for lack of a better term). Nintendo will surely bring out another version of this hardware. This also gets out of hand in my opinion. They launch the original model and based on the reviews and complaints there is always another version. Shouldn't they use focus groups or something? Atleast they make the changes, but the original DS was just bad. How many versions of the DS were there? And the Advanced? I know PSP has 3 (I don't count the PSP Go as it is something entirely different in my mind). The first was huge, the secound was the now expected "slim" version Playstation loves to do, and the 3rd added Skype. However, the last two are really just the same thing. I know there were atleast 3 completely different models of the DS. How many versions of the 3D are you willing to buy?
  2. 14 years ago. Thats when this game was supposed to launch the first time. 14 freaking years ago! With all the trouble this one has had in the past I can't pre order it. Just in case the curse of Duke comes back to bite it in the ass again. If something stupid is going to happen it will happen to this game for sure. I can't wait for this game however. I wan't a huge Duke fan back in the day. I was stuck on making and playing customer WAD files for Doom II at the time I think. But I have played the games that are out of coarse, and I have longed to play a more adult FPS like this for a while. This should be cool.
  3. I just remember the very first time I turned on Morrowind I walked the wrong way and a Golden Saint ate my face instantly. Start over mode already. The game is harder that way, but it makes at more rewarding when you play it well. It is also fun when you level and gear your character to the point that not much can kill you at all. Fallout still has this problem with monster leveling with you a little, but from time to time you still run into something weak that makes you feel like a level 30 character when you kill it with no effort. I guess I think that when I reach the max level only the very toughest mobs should create a problem for me. Also, just to make the complete and total nerd in my happy, I would LOVE to see a giant dragon to kill in the new game. I mean something nasty and hard as hell to beat for a max level character that gaurds the craziest stuff in the game.
  4. I'm looking forward to this as I completed all of the last 2 after FAR too much time playing. I mean way too much time. However, they are going to have to go back to somethings from older games to get me really into it again I think. I don't like that ALL enemies level with you. I liked having to stay out of certain areas as a low level to stay alive. Also, the way armor in the stores and such only got better with your skills was junk. I liked being able to create the character right, sneak into somewhere and steal the beat armor in the game if I knew how to do it. Put in terms pen and paper RPG players will understand, go back the static game world. Less hand holding, more taking the time to learn that place around you. As a side note, I would like the see experience based leveling instead of "swing your sword alot" leveling. I know they haven't done this with the series in its modern form, but Fallout 3 had it and it was SO much better to have that back.
  5. I started to play Dragon's Age a while back, but something turned me off a little and I stopped and gave it back to my friend. I saw it for like $20 used at GameStop the other day, I'll pick it up tomorrow on the way home and give it another shot. It was more then likely another game I really wanted to play that pulled me away now that I think about it. I'll make time between Fallout and COD for it.
  6. Hey! Don't be diss'n my Virtual Boy! The VB was a perfect way to check out from the world. It's only fault? It died on early death. Well... that and it was in all red. That kind of blunted the cool factor a bit... Also, you could argue that the Virtual Boy was neither a handheld nor very portable. When it first came out I classified it with the Game Boy as a portable system. Until I got one for myself back in the day. I liked the VB, but to me it belong in a category all by itself. Definitely not a home console, but a far cry from a handheld too. It's just a totally different animal. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I mentioned the Virtual Boy early in this thread for a few reasons that I think are valid. Some more then others, but I'll let you argue that. 1) It was Nintendo trying the 3D thing out, and it failed HARD! This was before everything was 3D, so people should have been even more interested in it, and it still failed HARD! It is a shock to me that Nintendo would even bother with this considering their current home system isn't even HD, and has nothing to compare with the other sytems on the market. 2) Eye strain is already the talk. Sure, you can turn off the 3D, but then you have an over priced DS. The 3D feature is not only the selling point, but the biggest problem people are already complaining about. Sounds very Virtual Boy like. 3) The 3D is said to require the handheld being held perfectly still to work properly. I can undertand why this is the case so I believe this to be pretty close to true. Well, holding a hand held perfectly still isn't easy at all! So to say its more portable then the Virtual Boy is a strech. Sure, turn the 3D off and play it like an over priced DS while you are on the plane but that isn't what this thing is advertising. In closing, I really hope Nintendo just stops soon. They have had a lot of success in the past, but there are 90 different ways to play the same 200 games now. I really like the idea of moving gaming forward, but they aren't doing it right anymore IMO. Nintendo needs to grow up. I started with the NES, and I really feel like Nintendo has dropped the core customers that made them in the first place with all this kiddy crap and gimmicky junk. Please be gentle, but someone had to say these things.
  7. The TG16 and NES are nice, and I can see the NES being the favorite for people based only on remembering it from childhood. That said I stand by the SMS vote. Its getting no love, and even a little hate, but that machine has pretty good sound man. Wonder Boy III is the first game to come to mind, but over all the sound is solid. I can stand alone on this, I don't mind, but the SMS rules you all. Also, I uped the epic on my avatar. See how epic it is. Much more epic!
  8. See, I Googled, but I didn't know exactly what to type in the search box and that makes a big difference. Thanks
  9. Virtual Boy anyone? I've already seen reports of eye strain problems and the idea that the unit has to perfectly still to work right. Perfectly still hand held? Not good! I'm just sick on Nintendo hand helds. Seems like there are 2 a year anymore, and most of the time there is no improvement. Its bigger, or they add something useless. I'll buy this from a pawn shop in 6 months, or from Walmart for $20 in a year if it flops. I can't help remembering the Virtual Boy when this thing comes up. I think its a sign.
  10. I'm giving a lot of thought to getting rid of my MAME machine and instead hooking my PC to my TV in the living room and playing the same deal as the MAME machine through my TV. I think over all this will be a good deal as my apartment isn't as big as I would like it to be and my collection is growing all the time. Not to mention if I get the MAME machine out I can move my DK Jr machine in. The DK Jr machine is alot smaller then the MAME anyway. The thing is I would want to be able to rotate my tv to play vertical screen games well.. vertically. I have done this with monitors tha thave the stands that let it do that and its cool as hell. It would be even cooler if I could do it with my 42' tv. Has anyone seen a way to mount one of these tvs that will let it spin like that. On the wall or with a stand doesn't really matter. Just something I thought would be cool and I know someone here has thought about this before, so maybe someone has an idea as to how to do this.
  11. Yeah, thats just not as much fun, and its also really hard to do that on my MAME machine.
  12. It feels like all the time. Work has been very very slow for a while now, and I sit in front of a computer so I just spend all my time really checking this and that. Reading old post and such. So I would say about 9 hours a day 5 days a week I'm here.
  13. The tokens cost .10 each, the customer pays .25 to have the token from the CEC they are at. If the customer gets the token from the CEC for .25 and takes it home the CEC still makes .15 on each one after the .10 needed to replace the token. How many tokens do you think actually make it back home? It can't be more then 10%. Buying the food does support the CEC. Buying the food and paying the CEC you are playing in to play their games supports them even more. Do whatever you want to do, but when this last good hope for arcades is gone as well don't start thinking you had nothing to do with it. For the love of God people, SUPPORT THE THINGS YOU LIKE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, or they will go away and you'll be wondering why. Its like buying your CDs from Walmart, and then wondering why you can't buy an unedited CD from FYE once Walmart has shut them down. There might be nothing you can do about it, but once we all give into that thought process the big box stores really will take over.
  14. Just holy crap! Way to go Hank! I play alot of Donkey Kong, and have for the last 6 months or so. 100k is a great game for me, I can't imagine how much time it takes to get this good at the game. I'm sure they are playing more then I am per day, and really studying the game. The attention, skill, and work this takes certainly deserves big props. Wonder when we will get a point cap and that will be that for the game? Just a long list of people that also got to the point max for the game tied for 1st. Never cared for that.
  15. I know there is a way to save high scores in MAME for games that didn't normally do that. I looked into this some and it seems likely you have to compile your own version of MAME for this to work, and to be honest that sounds like more then I'm in for. Is this the only way to do this? If so where I can get some step by step instructions of something to make this happen? If not what else can I do? I enjoy playing Donkey Kong on my MAME machine but it loses something when I can't see my actual all time high scores on the board. I admire MAME's want to emulate the games as close to the real thing as it can, but this I see as more fixing something the designers didn't see a problem with then ruining the games integrity. BTW, sorry to post this as I'm sure its been covered but my searching turned up too much stuff that had nothing to do with my answer to keep on searching.
  16. I got to play this version today. Its something different alright, and the timing it crazy. There is a super slow elevator board that is challenging and you wouldn't think it would be from looking at it. Slowing that board down that much makes things real crazy.
  17. I'm not 100% sure I should post this here, but to be honest this needs to be seen by all classic gamers that have disc games and this is the best way to be sure it is. I mentioned in December that I was going to order a JFJ Easy Pro here, and no one seemed to know much about it so I thought I would put out something about the machine for other people that might be thinking about it, including some information I didn't see on the net before I got my machine. So I got the machine and the first thing I noticed is this is not the average disc repair deal. This thing comes will all kinds of pieces and parts to fix just about anything CD you have. The instructions are well done, step by step, and very easy to follow. I do recommend that you read all the instructions before you start using that machine. If nothing else it will help you decide just how damaged your disc is and then figure out how to fix it. The contents of the box are clearly listed where ever it is sold so I wont bore you with that, but I will say the quality is there. Only time will tell how it holds up, but I feel real good about this machine. On to the good stuff. So I took some PS1 games that were pretty bad off and using the instructions I have repaired completely 15 games. They would not play at all and now they work like a dream. I can't say more about it then that. The thing just works. I have repaired PS1, PS2, XBox, XBox 360 and Saturn already with no problem. Just good stuff. What the reviews and information wont tell you is the machine will fix Blue Ray and PS3, but those disc are different then normal CDs. They have information stored in all layers of the disc. This means removing a layer of these disc styles could be the last thing you do with the disc. This is not a negative for the machine, this is a limit to the media. The only negative thing I can say about this machine is the solutions it uses to repair the disc. The box says everything you need to repair 100 discs is in the box. That may be true, but it sure doesn't feel that way. The instructions say you will have to use extra solution when you start with new buffing pads to allow the solution to soak into the pad. They mean that! You will use a pile of the stuff for the first few disc to cover that pad. It has gotten to the point where I'm not using too much per disc, but I think I used almost half each bottle before I was sure it was soaked in the way they described. The way to fix this is something I knew I should have done to begin with and just didn't. Order more of easy solution when you order your machine. The machine comes with a 4oz bottle of each of the 2 solutions, and there are 20oz bottles on Amazon for something like $20. Just order that when you start. Other then this little review, if you have questions I'll gladly try it out with my machine and give first hand information about everything I can. This thing is just great for the collector with damaged disc!
  18. This is surely the thing that will consume the rest of my day. Learning more about this is a must. Sweet stuff man.
  19. I have had this problem before as well. I have a MAME machine, and I guess I just stayed away from many games that require CHD files in the start. The thought process was to get it running and add the little things later. I still can't figure out what games need CHDs, where to get the CHDs, and then some have to be converted... I just stick to the older stuff I really wanted anyway. I haven't missed them too bad. Now I hear I have to use usenet and I honestly know NOTHING about that. Not even where to start. Links to help maybe, or a brief break down of where to start. All the greatest things seem to come from this usenet. On a side note, does anyone know how to make games that don't normally save high scores save them anyway? Donkey Kong comes to mind. I know it can be done, I don't know how to do it.
  20. Thats bad stuff man! I understand saving money and all that, but instead of supporting the place that has the machines you want to play you are supporting someone else that is basically taking money right out of the arcade owner's hands. Don't think I'm thinking any less of you, because this isn't THAT big of a deal, but people need to start thinking of the effects of these kinds of things. Sure, one person wont kill the arcade, but its never one person, and these things always pick up more and more people as they go. If you really like something, support it. Doing this is abusing it. Again, just my 2 cents.
  21. It is like you have read my mind. If 10 years from now I want to play Trails HD again I might just be screwed. Even worse in a way, I could play Fallout and enjoy it. If I want the extra content I either wait for a disc I can keep and hopefully use again in the future, or download it now and more then likely lose it forever as soon as they stop supporting it on the servers. Its crap. I do have to say though that I LOVE how easy multiplayer is now. Those that complain about COD just don't get it. That game has nothing to do with the single player anymore. The single player is just there because people still think it should be. I have played maybe an hour of single play, but the multiplayer is where its at. Sucks in a way, but this is the way of things now.
  22. Yeah, I don't know that I could be a reagular at the local Chuck-E-Cheese. I can go when the kids have a birthday party or something and have fun with them, but just going on a Tuesday? I don't think so. I agree, that it is better then one might think it would be. My problem is all the kids waiting to play a game and me in line to play too. 1) I stand out like a soar thumb. 2)People look at you like you must be remaking "Big" 3)I'm one more person for a kid to wait through, and I just think the adults should get of the way sometimes and let kids enjoy it while they are young. It is fun though to let the youngest drive while I work the gas and all. Its like a safer, and much faster, version of tho old southern tradition of letting the kid sit in your lap and "drive" to the dump.
  23. That is a great collection. I can't say I would really want a collection like that but I'm very happy someone has that kind of passion for it. Too often the people with a collection like that have it because it could be worth alot of money in the future and not because they really care about video games. That is alot of great history there. BTW, the only reason I wouldn't want to collection is I can't own a game I don't play, and I can't play all those games for 10 min each and keep my wife....
  24. I haven't noticed this before, but I'll be checking my NESs when I get home for these things. The yellowing problem is the one things I can't stand about early Nintendo. The NES had that problem, but not near as bad as the SNES. I don't think I have seen a SNES model 1 in a long time that wasn't atleast a little yellow.
